Central Community Hospital in Elkader, 1 to 3 p.m., will have an open house to showcase their new Toshiba CT scanner. A tour will be held to help people understand the function of a CT scan. The tour is also a way for the hospital to thank all the donors. After the tour, refreshments will be served.

The Monona City Council met on Monday, June 6, to discuss the new Casey’s General Store lot. In a unanimous vote the lot, located at 12634 Falcon Ave., was approved to be changed to C-1 retail status. This is another step towards building the Casey’s Store. A Casey’s contractor, Wally Pelds, was present to answer any questions or concerns that might have been brought up by the council or any one present. No questions or concerns were voiced.
November elections to hold a vote. They concluded that it would give more time for potential candidates to decide. The idea of holding a special election was discussed. However, if a candidate wanted to fill in now, that would be allowed. The City of Monona was awarded $235,440 via the Community Deployment Block Grant (CDBG) Owner Occupied Housing grant for 6 homes. The possibility of a hotel being built was discussed. For a fee of $6,000 to $8,000, the company that helped with the Cobblestone Inn in McGregor would oversee a study.
June 17-June 18 will see the return of Hay Days to downtown Monona. Friday, June 17 will begin with the walking taco dinner at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Monona City Park. The night will end with the Monona Fire Department’s glow run.
June 25 The Crossing Rivers Health Medical Center will host the Legacy 5k walk/run. The 5k will start at the old hospital site, 705 East Taylor Street at 8:00 a.m. and the finish line will be at the new medical center, 37696 US Hwy 18. Great Rivers Medical will also host the Teddy Bear Clinic, where teddy bears will be given to children so they can get accustom to medical instruments and procedures. The Teddy Bear Clinic will begin at 9: a.m.
June 25 Kregel Household, Tool & Collectible Auction will be held for Imogene and the late LuVerne Meyer on Saturday, June 25, 2016. The auction will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp. The auction is to be held at 601 S. Water St., Monona, IA.

Hunter Miller, a sophomore at MFL MarMac High School shot a hole-in-one at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana on June 11th. According to Clubhouse Manager Jackie Radloff, “as far as golf course records show, Hunter is the youngest to ever have accomplished this feat”. Miller used a driver on that hot, muggy, windless day to make the shot. Hunter is the son of Kristin and Shawn Morrissey of Monona & Tim and Andrea Miller of McGregor and has 3 brothers Brayde, Deklan and Mason.

Hunter Miller, a sophomore at MFL MarMac got a Hole-in-One at Tri-City Golf Course in Luana on June 11th. This was accomplished at Hole #9.
Shane Krause, age 8, and Dalton Krause, age 10, enjoy their cold, free milkshakes with Bailey Martins, the 2015 Clayton County Dairy Princess. Free milkshakes were being distributed at the Freedom Bank branch in Monona on June 15, 2016 to celebrate Dairy month.

The Clayton County Democratic Party will meet on Thursday, June 16 at Johnson's Restaurant. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. For more information contact Roger Thomas Chair.
Saturday, June 18 will start off with the Pancake Breakfast at the Monona Community Center. At 11:00 a.m., the Hay Days parade will start on South Main and end at South Egbert. Events will be held throughout the day. Venders and activities will be held in the streets.

Alliant Energy has proposed installing a loop feed so that a downed line will no disrupt as many business and homes like it did May 26. The loop would connect to the pole behind Fisk Farm and Home on Bulldog Blvd. and the junction cabinet north of the swimming pool. The concern is the potential future placement of a sidewalk/trail. The placement of the sidewalk has been put on hold until the next meeting, June 20. The vacant council seat was a topic of discussion, since no one has come forward to fill it. The council decided to wait until the
The company would do a feasibility study, which would include talking to businesses, people and monitoring traffic. However, if the company decides early on that it would not be feasible to open a hotel, then some of the money would be returned. The council decided to pursue more information about the study. The council also asked the fire chief, Dave Smith, for the fire departments help with cleaning the streets with fire hoses in preparation for Hay Days.
Community Center holds Blood Drive Fran Passmore of Monona eagerly awaits for her blood to be drawn and donated. The Red Cross held it’s blood drive June 9 in the Monona Community Center. 81 pints of blood were donated.

2016 Clayton County Dairy Banquet held; milk production awards presented The Clayton County Dairy Award Presentations were announced at the Clayton County Dairy Banquet last week. Award winners are as follows: High Holstein herd for milk award and C.F.P. Award: Lance and Jonna Schutte, Monona, sponsor, Postville Veterinary Clinic. This top producing herd had a production average for the year of 33,197 pounds of milk and 2141 pounds of combined fat and protein. The average was achieved on a herd of 103 Holsteins. High herd for milk and C.F.P. for colored breeds: Lance and Jonna Schutte; sponsor, ABS Global David Kray, Arlington; CFP award sponsor, Fidelity Bank and Trust, Guttenberg. This herd of 27 Brown Swiss had a production average for the 2015 calendar year of 24,468 pounds of milk and 1818 pounds of combined fat and protein. High herd for milk and C.F.P. for mixed breeds: Dennis and
Lori Bergan, Elkader; milk award sponsor, Joel’s Tractor and Auction, Strawberry Point, CFP award sponsor: Guttenberg Veterinary Clinic, Guttenberg. This herd of 65 mixed breeds had a production average for the 2015 calendar year of 28,995 pounds of milk and 1952 pounds of combined fat and protein. From December of 2014 to December of 2015 the milk production of this herd of 70 Holsteins increased by 2947 to the level of 23,723 pounds of milk. Most improved herd for C.F.P. This herd improved combined fat and protein production by 206 pounds on this herd of 38 Holsteins from December 2014 to December 2015. The year-end C.F.P. level on

years ago of recognizing producers with cows that produced in their lifetime 200,000 pounds of milk and/or 7,000 pounds of fat. Since 1986 there have been 250 cows enrolled in this club. Thirteen more cows achieved those lifetime production totals since last year’s awards presentation.
