Kanawha Council meets on July 14
Pulmonary Function Clinic Today at HCHS
Hancock County Health System Respiratory Therapy Department will hold a free Pulmonary Function Test Clinic on Thursday, July 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Wellness Center. Call 641-843-5500 to schedule an appointment. Limited times are available.
By Emilie Jenson The Kanawha City Council approved the removal of several ash trees from city ground during their regular meeting Tuesday, July 14. The council approved the hire of Clapper Tree Service to remove trees from properties at 212 East Second, 318 East First, 311 West First, 102 Walnut, 128 West Fourth and 726 North Main at a total price of $6,800. The council also discussed a change in water/sewer rates in the city by 2 percent. The first reading of the ordinance will be read at the regular meeting in August. Repairs to the city dump truck, including the replacement of the floor and box vibrator for $2,550 were approved to be done by Brun’s Welding of Rowan. In other business, the salary payments were approved for the summer youth little league coaches and umpires, street closures for Labor Day were left to the responsibility of Police Chief Tony Rasmussen, it was added to the job description that the individual serving as chief of police should obtain EMT certification within 24 months of hire at the expense of the city if not already certified and the following individuals were appointed to the fire board: Mervin Krauss as member and Bruce Smidt as alternae in Magor Township, Donovan Baker as member and Brian Harle as alternate in Norway Township, Dann Hansen as member and Tim Schreur as alternate in Amsterdam Township, Doug Verbrugge as member and Lee Marchand as alternate in Erin Township, Dale Kraft as member and Curtis Menke as alternate in Boone Township, and Gary Steenblock as member and Tim Landgraf as alternate in Twin Lakes Township.

Library’s Hero-Themed Reading Program Concludes
The Summer Reading Program at the Kananwha Public Library came to a conclusion this week. Throughout the past month, participants enjoyed the hero themed program, which included a visit from a police officer, dressing as superheroes and a program on animals from Des Moines’ Blank Park Zoo. Picnic on the Patio
Westview Care Center in Britt will host “Picnic on the Patio” on Thursday, July 30 from 12 to 1 p.m. The public is welcome.
North Iowa Festival of Brass in Forest City
North Iowa’s Festival of Brass will be held Saturday, August 1 at 7 p.m. at the Forest City High School Stadium.

Animals from the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines visited the Kanawha Public Library Monday morning during the final session of the summer reading program. Some participants weren’t so sure what to think of “Nala” a ball python, who visited the Kanawha Public Library Monday morning, she is a breed of snake commonly used a household pet. Schultz recognized by John Deere With the development of new technology and high-performance systems for John Deere equipment, it is critically important that customers receive exceptional service from highly trained product experts, technicians, and aftermarket support personnel. Kanawha Equipment participates in a comprehensive training program with John Deere to help their employees reach certain standards of expertise. Recently, Jerry Schultz, received advanced level recognition for the position of sales manager. This level of achievement was accomplished by completing extensive training in the Jon Deere University program. Schultz received a special plaque of recognition to honor the accomplishment. John Deere University credits are earned in various categories to ensure expertise in sales, service or parts departments of John Deere dealerships. This ongoing training is just one of the tools used by Kanawha Equipment to improve overall support and service to customers.
