New director of Nursing for Sigourney Care and Assisted Living
Sigourney Community School District Boundries
Special Election for School Board By Amber Kephart NR Editor The Sigourney Community School District will host a special election in April. This election is asking the community to vote for the school district to go from all district board members to all at large board members. Currently to
be a board member you have to live in the district that has an open position. Only residents in that district can vote for that candidate. Superintendent Dave Harper said, “This makes it hard to get board members because of this strict criteria.” He is asking the community to allow them to go all at large with board members. This means there
would be no more districts, which would allow anyone to run for a position on the board and allow anyone to vote for any of those school board members. Harpers goal by doing this is to encouraging more community members to run for school board. There are two appointed school board members up for election in April.
Becca Yule (Wickenkamp) is the newest addition to the staff at Sigourney Care and Assisted Living. Becca will be filling the position as the Director of Nursing. She will be responsible for managing the nursing and aide staff to give the best possible care to the residents, a support system for the staff and residents, admissions, scheduling and making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. Her passion is to be a great advocate for the residents, many of them don’t have family close by to be that person for them. Yule intends to be very hands on; she does not want to be cooped up in the office. There is a lot of paperwork that goes with the job, but she wants to be out and about. She wants to be a constant for her residents and her staff. She has an open door policy and even joked that she is going to put a sign on her door that says candy, with an arrow. She wants to encourage the staff, residents and family to come in and feel comfortable with her. Yule currently resides between Ollie and Packwood with her husband Mark and daughter Ava. She was raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. She received her associates in Nursing from Indian Hills Community College. She spent three years working for Hospice Compassus and most recently was employed at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. From a very young age Yule said she wanted to be a nurse so she could help people. When asked why she chose assisted living, her response was “ I like to create happy moments for the elderly and I hate seeing them mistreated.” She also loves the fact that she has 50 plus grandmas. The staff at Sigourney Care and Assisted Living is happy to have Becca join their team. Community Liaison Director, Cindy Murphy states, “Becca is a great asset here and we are looking forward to having her on our team.”
