Pool cover saves Wright Medical Wellness Center thousands; see it during Senior Day BY KIM DEMORY egeagle@goldfieldaccess.net Wright Medical Wellness Center (WMWC) opened their doors in Eagle Grove seven-and-ahalf years ago. They continue to be as popular today as they were back then, and just one of the reasons why is the heated therapy pool. People travel from around the area to reap the benefits of aquatic exercise, whether it be for therapy to recover from an injury or surgery, or be it for fitness. That is why the Eagle Grove Rotary Club and Our Foundation for the Future partnered together with Wright Medical Wellness Center to purchase a pool cover. According to Lonny Trenary, Wright Medical Wellness Center leader, the cover saves the facility a few hundred dollars a month in energy costs. The pool cover arrived in mid-January, keeping the swimming temperatures up for the approximate 250 patrons who regularly use the pool, while

keeping the cost of operating it down for the facility. Details are not yet finalized, but according to Trenary, WMWC is working on plans to make the pool benefit even more people in the area. They are discussing with the Eagle Grove Parks and Recreation Board the possibility of opening the heated pool this winter for the kids. You would not need to be a member, but could instead pay a per person/per visit admission fee. Watch for more details on that later this fall. Other services available at WMWC include a hot tub, sauna, weight room, fitness area, p hysic a l /o c c up a t io n a l /s p e e ch therapy (through Iowa Specialty Hospital), karate (two times a week), and other miscellaneous classes at different times of the year. WMWC members also have access to a personal trainer should they wish. WMWC currently has an estimated 500 members. They are

hoping that number will increase during their annual Senior Day, coming up June 2nd. Senior Citizens from Eagle Grove and the surrounding areas are invited to stop by between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to check out the facility, ask questions, and sign up for a membership at 10 percent off original price if you so wish. This is a one-day only saving offer. “I would say 60 to 70 percent of the senior citizens sign up on this day,” said Trenary. “We understand the majority of our population is seniors, so we want to encourage their use of the facility.” If you are considering joining WMWC, Trenary invites you to stop by anytime and give it a try. A member of the staff would be happy to walk you through the facility and show you how the equipment works. New members can try it free a couple of times, no obligation. Access is available 24/7 for members. “We invite you in. Try it out, no pressure,” said Trenary.

Jana Amdahl has been a State Farm Insurance agent for nearly 30 years. Friday, May 30, will be her final day before retirement. An Open House is being held that day to help her celebrate. Stop in and wish her well between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Photo by Kim Demory

BY KIM DEMORY egeagle@goldfieldaccess.net Jana Amdahl has spent nearly the last three decades going to work in Eagle Grove as the State Farm Insurance agent. On Friday, May 30, she’ll walk through that door for the very last time. She will instead take on the roll of retiree, leaving her with more time to enjoy golf, travel, family/friends, and reading “noninsurance related” materials. Looking back, Amdahl is amazed just how quickly the time flew by. She had been employed as a legal assistant with Larry Ivers for 10 years, when the then State Farm agent, Mike Dannewitz, approached her about taking over the position.

“I loved my job with Larry,” Amdahl said. She never gave the State Farm job much consideration; after all, she had small children at home and was also serving as the Mayor of Eagle Grove at the time. Dannewitz didn’t give up, however. He came back three times, and that’s when her husband, Myron, encouraged her to just actually think about it. With no experience in insurance, other than the fact she had been insured by State Farm since she was a child (and now that she was married with children) she decided to take a leap of faith and took the job.
