Former Bulldog Josh Turner pitches a perfect game
STEVE DUFFY Chairman, Board of Superv.
Northwestern College (Orange City) sophomore Josh Turner threw a perfect game against Presentation (South Dakota) Saturday Feb. 22 in game one of a doubleheader. This was just the second perfect game in Northwestern history; the first occurring in 1969. Turner, a 2012 OHS graduate, signed with Northwestern in February of last year. He finished out his high school career by pitching in the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game and being named second team All-State.
His historic perfect game was documented on the Northwestern Red Raiders website: Turner recorded 13 strikeouts, induced six ground ball outs, two infield pop ups, and one fly ball out to centerfield. He used 90 pitches in the game, throwing 23 balls and 67 strikes. Turner reached a 3-0 count with the second hitter of the game before retiring him on a strikeout swinging. One other hitter made it to a three ball count and only five more reached two balls.
Turner struck out the final two hitters swinging to complete the perfect game. This accomplishment is quite remarkable, especially considering doctors said he would never play ball again after a snowboarding accident in January of 2013. The following fall Turner underwent a procedure to have a small tear in his elbow repaired. “Funny, all these things happen and he just gets better and better,” commented is mother Joette.
