Thompson reelects Honoring veterans and their sacrifice belated mayor Thompson Mayor Bob Johnson won his final election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as voters reelected him for mayor just two days after his death. Johnson passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City at the age of 85. He was serving his eighth year as mayor of Thompson, and he previously served on the Thompson City Council for 14 years. He also served for many years on the Thompson Fire Department and was a member of the VFW and the Bethany Lutheran Church Council. Johnson grew up in Thompson and graduated from Thompson High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he came back home to Thompson. His career included serving as owner and operator of Farmers Lumber Company and the Thompson movie the-

Robert Johnson ater, and he also farmed and worked in the Winnebago County Assessor’s Office. Services for Johnson were held Thursday, Nov. 7 at Bethany Lutheran Church, and inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.

Wubben unseats Silber on City Council Buffalo Center citizens voted for a change on their City Council during Election Day last Tuesday, Nov. 5. Voters elected newcomer Les Wubben to the Buffalo Center City Council, along with incumbent Pete Paulson. Incumbent Charles Silber, who has served on the Council for 20 years, fell short in his reelection bid. Paulson garnered the most votes with 173 (46.76%), followed by Wubben with 138 (37.3%) and Silber with 59 (15.95%). Buffalo Center Mayor Troy Armstrong won reelection for his third term, as he received 170 votes. There were also nine write-in votes

for mayor. The City of Thompson is in a unique position, after voters reelected Mayor Bob Johnson to his post following his death on Sunday, Nov. 3. Johnson was running unopposed, and he received 11 of 48 votes to win reelection. According to the Winnebago County Auditor, the top write-in candidate for mayor received 10 votes. The Thompson City Council will decide how to fill the mayor’s seat during its monthly meeting this Tuesday. City Clerk Diane Adams says the Council can choose to either appoint someone as mayor or to hold

only candidates on the ballot. Fiebelkorn received 53 votes, while Hughes received 55. There were also five write-in votes for council. In Lakota, two new members will join incumbent Debra Steven on the City Council. Steven received 53 votes as the only candidate listed on the ballot, while the unofficial tally for write-in votes shows Roberta Hagedorn with 72 votes and Andy

Johnson received 51 votes (31.29%), followed by Benn with 46 (28.22%) and Duve with 42 (25.77%). There were also 24 write-in votes for City Council. Louise Hagedorn was reelected as mayor of Rake, as she received 50 votes. There were three write-in votes for mayor.
