North Iowa’s “The Foreigner this Friday and Saturday North Iowa High School will bring Larry Shue’s “The Foreigner to the stage this Friday and Saturday night, Nov. 8 and 9, for its annual fall play production. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each night, and tickets will be on sale at the door for $5 each. The play is set in a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by “Froggy LeSueur (Caleb Ricke), a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time, Froggy has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie (Zach Dirksen), who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So Froggy, before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English.
Once alone, the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should - the evil plans, two-faced people and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn’t understand a word being said. The fact that he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax, in which things go uproariously awry. The cast of the play includes: Caleb Ricke as S/Sgt. “Froggy LeSueur, Zach Dirksen as Charlie Baker, Natalie Dirksen as Betty Meeks, Jami Goetz as Rev. David Marshall Lee, Alyssa Swearingen as Catherine Sims, Freddie Eden as Owen Musser, Makeila Shortenhaus as Ella Simms, and Colin Weaver and Tanner Weaver as Klansmen.
