Library has new software and new librarian The BC Public Library is the recipient of a $1,600 grant from the Winnebago County Community Foundation, which has allowed the library to purchase new circulation software. According to Library Director Sharon Hippen, this new software, which is designed to meet the needs of small and medium sized public libraries, provides many elements that previous software did not. “This software saves our data in several places to insure that there is no single point of failure, said Hippen. “Checkouts can continue even when the Internet is down, and patrons can search the card catalog from any computer and reserve items from within their library account at

home or in the library. Various reporting capabilities are built in to the software, such as a deleted items report, an age of collection report, and a report on items pulled from the collection. Patrons can also be notified automatically by email or phone when an item is available or overdue. With this new software, library circulation will be enhanced, and circulation procedures will be more efficient. Library patrons can find the link to the online catalog at the Buffalo Center Public Library website: www.buffalocenter.lib.ia.us. Library users can stop in the library for further details on accessing their library account from home.

Trying out the new software at the Buffalo Center Public Library is Elaine Michaelson, who was recently hired as a substitute librarian. She will fill in whenever regular librarians are gone.
