By Stephanie Faughnan SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY - From Lacey Township south through the mainland communities and onto Long Beach Island, municipal governments across Southern Ocean County rang in 2026 with reorganization meetings that reflected both continuity and change. Each of the municipalities holding reorganization meetings in this stretch of the county is governed by Republican-controlled governing bodies, a political alignment that shaped both the tone and leadership selections as officials set their agendas for the year ahead. township committees to council-led governments, the meetings shared common themes: fiscal restraint, operational stability, and a renewed focus on local priorities. With many meetings held on the same dates, it was impossible to attend each in person. Taken together, however, the reorganizations offered a snapshot of how leadership is taking shape across the southern end of Ocean County for 2026. By Jason Allentoff MANAHAWKIN – A West Creek family rang in the new year with a milestone moment as the first baby girl of 2026 was born at Southern Ocean Medical Center. Ellie Rose arrived at 4:33 a.m., weighing 6 pounds, 4 ounces, to parents Victoria and Nick Rekosik. Hospital staff said the delivery marked the first newborn of the year at the (First Baby of 2026- See Page 4)

By Bob Vosseller WARETOWN - The owners of a oneyear-old French bulldog want justice for the senseless murder of their pet and they came out with friends and supporters to show solidarity in front of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office during a recent winter afternoon. VA Clinic Officially Named For Local Hero

By Andrew Rice OCEAN COU NTY - The Veterans Administration clinic just hosted its official naming ceremony, as it will now be known as the Leonard G ‘Bud’ Lomell VA Clinic. Leonard ‘Bud’ Lomell was a local World War II hero. After his service, he assisted other veterans when they arrived home via his work with the local veterans affairs offices. His impact rippled throughout the local veterans communities in (VA Clinic - See Page 19)
