By Bob Vosseller MANCHESTER – Mayor Joseph Hankins joined family members as he took the oath of office administered by Municipal Clerk Teri Giercyk. Councilwoman Sandy Drake was installed for her first full term a few days prior to the recent reorganization meeting. Hankins initially won his seat on the Township Council in the December 2022 runoff election and assumed office on January 3, 2023. He is a life-long resident of Manchester, raising his family with his wife, Carol Ann in Pine Lake Park. He served as a township police

officer for 25 years as a patrolman, detective, and patrol sergeant. Hankins won a special election in November of 2025 to serve the remainder of the mayoral term, which will expire on December 31, 2026. He took over Mayor Robert Arace’s term when he resigned from that position after winning his first term on the Ocean County Board of Commissioners. Arace was in his second year of a four-year term as mayor when he became a candidate for County Commissioner. “I want to thank everyone for their support (Officials - See Page 4)

VA Clinic Officially Named For Local Hero

By Andrew Rice TOMS RIVER - The Veterans Administration clinic just hosted its official naming ceremony, as it will now be known as the Leonard G ‘Bud’ Lomell VA Clinic. Leonard ‘Bud’ Lomell was a local World War II hero. After his service, he assisted other veterans when they arrived home via his work with the local veterans affairs offices. His impact rippled throughout the local veterans communities in Toms River. Lomell’s service included the raid on Pointe Du Hoc with the Army Rangers as a part of the D-Day

By Stephanie Faughnan WHITING - Members of the executive board of Crestwood Village Co-Op III were served with subpoenas as Ocean County officials investigate complaints tied to mold and the handling of remediation within the senior community. The subpoenas were served on December 17 during a Crestwood Village III homeowners association meeting by investigators from the Ocean County Department of Consumer Affairs. They were signed by Director Ronald Heinzman and Laura E. Comer, Counsel to the Director of Consumer Affairs. Those served included Allen Brown, president; Chris Birnbaum, vice president; Elt Flauntleroy, treasurer; Sharon Hasbrouck, secretary; Rose Kantenwein, board trustee; and Kristie Bendick, the HOA’s manager. The recipients have until January 14, 2026 to respond. The documentation requested spans several years. According to the subpoena rider, investigators are seeking records dating from April 1, 2021, to the present, including contractor names, work orders, invoices, repair orders, HOA board minutes ref lecting approvals or denials concerning home improvement contractors, permits, and any complaints or materials related specifically to mold and mold remediation at the property in question and any attached dwelling. New Council President Chosen In Lakehurst By Bob Vosseller LAKEHURST – The borough’s reorganization meeting was categorized by hope in the new year and featured the installation of two returning councilmen and selection of a new council president. Steven Oglesby and Brian DiMeo were both sworn in for their newest terms on council by Borough Attorney Ian Goldman. The Borough faced some fiscal challenges like many other Ocean County communities in 2025 but Mayor Harry Robbins told The Manchester Times after the meeting was over, that he was optimistic about 2026.
