It’s not legal to feed wild animals but the cat is hungry. “We look at the situation and if we think it is a good fit to do, then we approve them for a colony.” “They agree that they will feed him on a daily basis and provide water on a daily basis and they will provide him with some kind of shelter which can be something as simple as a cooler that has a hole inside of it with straw,” he added. Talty noted, “when you think about it, squirrels live all winter long, possums, raccoons all find places to stay warm. Cats are very smart and very resourceful. When they have an easy place to eat and drink and lay their head, they can be very happy.” After the cat’s basic needs are met, they arrange to trap the cat and bring it to a designated veterinarian that specializes in low-cost neuter services. Talty said, “we go to East Coast Spay & Neuter in Toms River. They have been doing spay and Photo courtesy Brick TNR Committee neutering services for cats and dogs and that is all they really do. GOP Gains In Close Election By Bob Vosseller BRICK – Two candidates squared off to secure the mayor’s chair in the November 4 general election in the township, along with a race for three seats on the Township Council. Incumbent Mayor Lisa Crate, a Democrat, may have narrowly won re-election with 16,705 votes and 50.3% against Republican Madeline Colagiovanni Iannarone, who currently serves as the Board of Education President and received 16,444 votes capturing 49.57%. The County Board of Elections takes a few weeks to certify results, looking over provisional ballots and other issues. That makes this race too close to call. Iannarone did not concede by press time. Crate’s apparent victory wasn’t shared by her council running mates. Republican council candidates Gregory J. Cohen received 16,938 votes, Perry Albanese received 17,427 and Lisa Reina received 17,478 votes. Incumbent Democratic Councilwoman Heather deJong received 14,807 votes and joining her were newcomers Dan Ward with 14,655 votes and Rocco Lepore who received 14,558.
