Amid Increase In Child Predators, Parents Urged To Monitor Children’s Social Media
By Bob Vosseller TRENTON – Various law enforcement agency representatives expressed the need for parents to take a more active role in monitoring their child’s social media and internet use during a virtual press conference where New Jersey At-
torney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced 21 arrests of alleged child predators. Those investigations also included cases of sharing child sexual abuse materials online. He said that online threats continue to rise during the pandemic.
This prompted his office to warn parents of risks to children as school is about to begin and students are experiencing more screen time. It was recommended by several of the representatives present for parents to have their children’s phones placed in a
charging area during the night to prevent them from using the phone for unsupervised online purposes. An alarming concern noted was an increase in 7, 8 and 9-year old children creating self-produced videos. Grewal said that during this pandemic, “people
are spending more time online. On the one hand homebound children are spending more time on their devices both for virtual learning and for recreation. At the same time predators are also spending more time online and taking advantage (Child - See Page 20)

High Schools Produce Video Orientations
By Bob Vosseller JACKSON – Students, staff, parents, administrators and teachers are all preparing for the start of what will be the most unusual and unique school year ever experienced. It is definitely a unique start to our school year. Nothing is as it was.” To prepare high school students for their entry to a new and now different school environment, videos for this year’s orientation process were produced. At Jackson Liberty High School Principal Geoff Brignola said during a 9th grade Virtual Orientation video “as you know we are in different times this year. I want you to know that we are really excited about this new year to begin.” Brignola told students, “whether it is administrators, teachers, staff, security, cafeteria workers, custodians - we are here to support you. We are also here to challenge you. We are going to raise the bar of expectations but we are here to get you above that bar. We have a lot of things to offer you this year. Whether it be the hybrid schedule or the remote schedule to bring you the high school experience as it should be.” He addressed parents since they, too, are probably feeling anxious. “We are not only here for your children but we are here for you as well. We want and need your help. Stay engaged. We want to make this high school experience as memorable for the (School - See Page 8)
