MILLFIELD ODDIES FC v WEAR UNITED FC Jay McLaren Subsidiary Cup
Sunday 25th February 2018
Silksworth Sports Complex Kick Off 10.30am
MESSAGE FROM THE GAFFER
Hello again! Tale of two halves last week – we played well in the first half and went into the break at 2-2 after twice coming from behind. Tiredness and no subs available took its toll especially when the opposition had 5 subs to use and we were poor in the second half and deservedly but disappointingly lost 7-2. The big positive was Jack getting a debut goal and I look forward to seeing him score many more for the club We have a tough game this Sunday against Millfield Oddies FC in the Jay McLaren subsidiary cup and if we win it pretty much guarantees us a semifinal place so I really hope the lads are up for it and we play the football we know we can and we come away with the win but it will only happen if we play to our strengths Had some good news on sponsorship for some of the childrens team which will be announced next week however we are still looking for a sponsor for our adult team so if anyone can help or knows anyone that can then please ask them to get in touch

LAST TIME OUT – RYHOPE FC 7-2 WEAR UNITED FC United took on Ryhope in their penultimate game of the league and with a thin bare squad couldn’t manage to get 3 points despite a positive first half. The first chance of the game brought the first goal after only two minutes and it fell to the home side Ryhope. A throw in was crossed into the box from the left and met with a cushioned volley which nestled in the bottom corner. 1-0 to Ryhope Then the second chance of the game brought the second goal and it was an equaliser. Joe Walters with a trademark throw in which found Steve Barnes. Steve had his back to goal but controlled the ball before turning and volleying it into the back of the net. 1-1 On 8 minutes Ryhope had a corner which was swung in and Carl Lee in the United goal found himself trying to punch the ball in no mans land and the shot came in but thankfully for United and Carl, Joe Walters was on hand to clear the ball off the line Ryhope regained the lead on 10 minutes when they were awarded a free kick outside of the box. The ball was swung in and the United defence were asleep with the first shot being saved by Carl Lee but the ball landing on the head of the Ryhope player and he put it into the empty net. 2-1 to Ryhope United had a good chance on 14 minutes when the two forwards combined with Sam Wade finding debutant Jack Croucher on the edge of the box. Jack hit a lovely shot but it was met with an equally good save by the keeper Jack Croucher was again involved 2 minutes later when he sprayed the ball out left to Sean White who crossed the ball in to the back post and Jack managed to get too the ball before lobbing a pass over the defender to Steve Barnes who hammered the ball just wide of the goal United pulled level again after 21 minutes following some lovely football which ended with Steve Barnes crossing into the box and the ball falling to Jack Croucher on the edge of the box and Jack hit a lovely volley with power which gave the keeper no chance to grab his first goal for the club in his first game. 2-2 On 24 minutes Jack could have added his second when Sam Wade won a tackle and the ball freed Jack one on one but the keeper stood tall and managed to keep the effort out of goal United came close again and hit the post after 29 minutes following a corner. Steve Barnes swung it in and the ball bobbled around the six yard area before Sam Wade got his toe to it but it came back off the upright and was cleared Ryhope had the next couple of chances – firstly on 34 minutes a throw in ended with a shot from 30 yards which went well wide and with 5 minutes remaining in the half a ball was pulled back from the right and a shot came in from inside the box which Luke Tate deflected narrowly past the far post United’s final chance of the half fell on 42 minutes when Joe Walters which came out to Jack Croucher and Jack hit a superb shot again but yet again the keeper pulled off an equally brilliant save to keep the scores at 2-2 The last chance of the half came with seconds to spare and it fell to Ryhope with another shot from inside the box but this time Carl Lee was more than equal to it and made a great save Half Time – Ryhope FC 2-2 Wear United FC
LAST TIME OUT – RYHOPE FC 7-2 WEAR UNITED FC The first chance of the second half fell to Ryhope within 50 seconds of the restart when the ball was bobbling around in the area and the striker turned and shot across goal but it went wide of the far post United should have gone in front on 49 minutes after Steve Barnes switched the play to Sean White who whipped in a delightful cross which Sam Wade was on the end of but the height was awkward and Sam could only divert the ball past the post That missed chance was soon punished when Ryhope regained the lead on 51 minutes. A ball was played to the edge of the box and the player got past Luke Tate and put the ball into the bottom corner. 3-2 to Ryhope Stephen Keogh gave Ryhope a free kick 25 yards form goal on 56 minutes and it was hit with a lovely left foot curling effort but thankfully for United it went just over the bar Ryhope doubled their advantage on the hour mark and it came from a set piece. A corner was swung into the back post and met with a header which went into the net despite Andy Meikle’s best efforts to keep it out. 4-2 to Ryhope United had the next couple of chances and Steve Barnes was looking to add to his earlier goal on 65 minutes with a shot from the right but it went past the post and on 71 minutes United missed a guilt edge chance. Joe Walters swinging in a delightful free kick which fell nicely onto Stu Bowman’s head but unopposed Stu put the header wide of the goal Ryhope had the luxury of 5 subs and tiredness started to show for United. That alongside a change in formation for Ryhope helped the hosts extend their lead on 77 minutes. A free kick which was played into the box was cleared to the edge of the box but met with a well hit shot which gave Carl Lee no chance. 5-2 to Ryhope It was all Ryhope now and they were awarded a penalty on 80 minutes when Luke Tate fouled the striker inside the box despite his appeals it was outside. The penalty was hit hard and low and under Carl Lee to make it 6-2 Carl Lee helped to keep the scoreline down with a couple of good saves. After 84 minutes a cross from the left and a shot was met with a good diving save from Carl and with 4 minutes remaining a shot from inside the box was again saved by Carl and the follow up at the back post was hit with far too much power and flew over the bar Ryhope kept pushing for another goal and got it with two minutes remaining. A ball over the top was well controlled and dispatched into the bottom corner. 7-2 to Ryhope The last chance of the game fell to Ryhope with second left and the player cut in from the left before megging Luke Tate but hit the shot hard and over the bar Full Time – Ryhope FC 7-2 Wear United FC
