LAKESIDE SSC FC v UNITED SUNDAY 18TH AUGUST – SILKSWORTH 3G

11.15am Kick off – League Cup 1st Round

MESSAGE FROM THE GAFFER

Hello again! What a fantastic start to the season in true United style! 1-0 up, 3-1 down and then come back to win it 5-3. I really couldn’t be prouder of the lads for digging in and getting the result that the performance deserved. It gives us a fantastic foundation to build up on and hopefully that will continue this Sunday as we take on our friends Lakeside in the League cup first round. I can’t believe I am writing this but since I set up this club in 2012, I have never missed a game – however I won’t be there this Sunday and I already feel nervous and very gutted!! Stu, Joe & Sam are trusted to run the team for this game, and I am looking forward to hopefully receiving a message on Sunday saying we have made it two wins from two whilst I am drinking beer around the pool!! We have also added two new players to the squad for this weekend with Mark Cresswell & Ross McLagan completing our squad for this season. Both lads bring Premier League experience and will bolster our already very good squad for the season We are still on the look out for more sponsors if anyone knows anyone that can help us out financially and we are also on the look out for a photographer/videographer as we look to improve even more off the field. If anyone is interested get them in touch with me! Good luck for Sunday lads – bring it home #wearforlife #comeonunited Thanks Michael

We still have plenty of opportunities for local businesses to sponsor our teams as detailed above. As a grassroots club, funding is hard to come by and any help by a local business is a fantastic boost to the clubs finances and chance of surviving. Any business that takes up a sponsorship with the club will receive a full page spread in future programmes as well as having their business name/logo on the shirts and promotion via our social media channels. If anyone can help or knows a business that may be able too please ask them to get in touch with Michael

LAST TIME OUT – ASHBROOKE ROSEDENE FC 3-5 WEAR UNITED FC United took on Ashbrooke Rosedene in the first game of the league season. United were playing their first ever game in Division 2 and were up against last season’s division 4 champions so it wasn’t going to be an easy game. Both teams were missing players but the game itself was a fantastic spectacle for the neutral and got United their first 3 points of the season United started well with a lot of possession but no clear-cut chances created, and it was Ashbrooke who had the first chance of the game on 7 minutes. A cross from the right was intercepted well by Callum Cowie but his interception landed at the foot of the Ashbrooke striker. His shot was well saved by Stu Bowman in the United goal Ashbrooke had another chance on 9 minutes when the ball was played out left. The winger took it into the box and pulled the trigger, but Ciaran Foster got back brilliantly to block the shot for a corner which came to nothing Ashbrooke were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal on 11 minutes and the initial strike was well blocked. The ball came back to the taker and he hit a shot towards goal which thankfully for United grazed the top of the bar United’s first real chance of the game came from a set piece when Jack Croucher stood over a free kick from 20 yards. His free kick hit the wall and came out right to Micky Taylor. Micky then hit a powerful cross across the goal which Chris Sproat got a head too, but it went over the bar United were now creating more chances that their possession deserved and on 19 minutes and absolute thunderbolt by Jack Croucher was just about saved by the keeper and it fell to Callum Cowie who attempted a flying half volley which he didn’t connect properly with and the keeper saved that as well The referee gave a yellow card to an Ashbrooke player on 21 minutes for a foul on Callum Cowie for a nasty challenge On 29 minutes Jack Croucher headed over to take a corner for United. He swung it in well and Thomas Jobling rose to meet it, but the header went just over the bar Ashbrooke had a great chance to take the lead on the half hour when a through ball split the United defence. The striker was clean through, but Stu Bowman stood tall to keep the shot out and the follow up was punched out by Stu to keep the scoreline goalless Stu Bowman again used his fists to keep out another effort a minute later when the left back from Ashbrooke went on a run from his own half into the United box which Stu kept out well The next chance of the game came on 38 minutes and it brought the first goal. United were awarded a free kick which Luke Tate stood over 30 yards from goal. Luke hit the free kick brilliantly which cannoned back of the crossbar and Chris Sproat was the quickest to react heading the ball home from 5 yards out. 1-0 to United A minute later and a United ball over the top fell kindly for Thomas Jobling and Thomas hit a shot at goal. The keeper though was equal to it and caught the ball Within seconds of that chance Ashbrooke were level. Another neat through ball split the defence and was tucked home into the corner. 1-1 United were forced into a substitution on 44 minutes when Luke Tate came off worse in a challenge and had to come off with Kevin Philliskirk replacing him The action wasn’t finished for the first half though and somehow United went into the break behind. A ball into the box seen keeper Stu Bowman come out to clear it. Stu went with his feet and missed the ball and clattered into the Ashbrooke player and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was dispatched to Stu’s right and Ashbrooke took the lead. 2-1 to Ashbrooke Half Time – Ashbrooke Rosedene FC 2-1 Wear United FC

LAST TIME OUT – ASHBROOKE ROSEDENE FC 3-5 WEAR UNITED FC United started the second half well and a Jack Croucher cross took a deflection which looped it towards the keeper. He dropped the ball and Thomas Jobling was quick onto it but his poke at the ball seen it go wide for a goal kick although the keeper admitted he got a touch to it Callum Cowie played a superb ball through to Thomas Jobling on 48 minutes and Thomas was in the box. Thomas hit a well hit shot at goal which unfortunately for United was straight down the keeper’s throat Ashbrooke’s first chance of the half brought their third goal and it had a bit of controversy surrounding it. A through ball again beat the United defence but the striker looked a couple of yards offside. The referee though never gave it and he broke through and placed it past Stu Bowman. 3-1 to Ashbrooke United weren’t giving up though and had a good chance on 52 minutes when Chris Sproat played it out left for Jack Croucher. Jack had a pop at goal which the keeper just managed to tip around the post United were awarded a corner on 53 minutes which Micky Taylor stepped up to take. Chris Sproat came for a short corner and after a quick one-two Micky Taylor delivered a delicious cross into the box which was met with a great header by Thomas Jobling and it nestled in the net to get United back in the game. 3-2 On 56 minutes Jack Croucher and Chris Sproat played a superb one-two and Jack ended up shooting at goal which the Ashbrooke keeper just managed to tip onto the crossbar United nearly gifted Ashbrooke another goal two minutes later when a couple of passes across the back line ended up with ball behind Liam Coulson and the Ashbrooke player went through on goal but thankfully for United lashed his shot high over the bar Luke Tate’s previous injury had settled down and he came back on the pitch on 61 minutes replacing Liam Coulson with Kevin Philliskirk going into defence and Luke going back into midfield United drew level on 63 minutes and it was deserved. Jack Croucher played in Chris Sproat down the left and he backheeled it into the path of Micky Taylor superbly. Micky made no mistake in slamming the ball into the net. 3-3 United made a couple of changes. Firstly on 70 minutes Richie Morton replaced Thomas Jobling with Richie going into defence and Kevin Philliskirk going back into midfield and then on 75 minutes Steve Barnes came on to replace the injured Jack Croucher on the left wing Luke Tate was involved at the start of the move that put United back in front on 77 minutes. Luke found a superb ball through to Micky Taylor and Micky in turn found Chris Sproat and Chris made no mistake in curling his effort into the far bottom corner to bag his second goal of the game and United’s fourth. 4-3 to United Kevin Philliskirk had United’s next effort on 80 minutes with a shot from 30 yards which went straight at the keeper and 3 minutes later Ashbrooke had a rare shot which was from the edge of the box and flew over. United extended their lead on 87 minutes when Steve Barnes hit a lovely ball long out to the right which Micky Taylor sprinted after and kept in brilliantly. Micky then found Luke Tate who smashed it home from 10 yards. 5-3 to United Luke Tate could have bagged a second goal a minute later when he was put straight through but with a bit too much time his shot went straight at the keeper Full Time – Ashbrooke Rosedene FC 3-5 Wear United FC

WEAR UNITED YOUTH TEAMS

All of our youth teams are currently on their summer break from matches and will resume in September. Results and updates will appear on this page in future programmes

PLAYERS PLAYER After every match we ask players to vote for their man of the match. Callum Cowie was given man of the match by Ashbrooke Rosedene FC and the players voted as below. Congratulations to Callum Cowie who won Player’s Player with 36.4% of the vote – however since we didn’t have 33 people there to vote and Callum Cowie shared it on social media and got more votes due to this it is decided that Jack Croucher has won Player’s player this week!!

NEXT OPPOSITION This Sunday we take on our good friends Lakeside SSC FC. Last season the sides met 3 times with Lakeside winning 53 in the cup before a 3-3 draw in the league and then United pipping Lakeside to second place in the league with a 4-3 victory in the final game of the season Lakeside started this season well with a 6-2 victory away at Hall Farm Doxy Lad with Lewis Murton & Mathew Middlemiss both scoring two goals and Aidan Stoker & Paul Stephenson also scoring. Mathew Middlemiss picked up man of the match Lakeside currently have 21 players signed on with an average squad age of 30 which is the same average age as United currently. United are missing several players this weekend so it will be a tough test for both teams Lakeside team v Hall Farm Doxy Lad – Cullen, Wilkes, Ridgway (L Stephenson), P Stephenson, R Usher (Wilson), I Usher (Simpson), Gamble, Stoker, Middlemiss, Barrass (Pace), Murton (Rytter)
