SOMMAIRE CONTENTS
Chers lecteurs, Nos activités de septembre et d’octobre ont connu un grand succès. Nous avons dû organiser des séances supplémentaires de nos contes pour enfants afin de pouvoir répondre à la demande. Notre Cinem’Alliance a réuni des spectateurs malaisiens et français qui ont participé à un débat et partagé un verre à l’issue de la projection. Notre café, Chez Leoniel, est déjà devenu un lieu très vivant et animé (surtout le samedi). L’Alliance Française est assurément le lieu où rencontrer des amis, faire des découvertes culturelles, pratiquer son français et se détendre à l’écart du tohubohu du centre-ville. Nous vous proposons bien plus encore dans les deux mois à venir : un événement gastronomique dans le cadre de la semaine du goût, une journée spéciale portes ouvertes pour rencontrer notre équipe et découvrir toute la gamme de notre offre linguistique et culturelle, des projections de films dans nos murs et à l’extérieur de l’Alliance (Publika), une exposition d’une artiste française dans notre espace galerie rénové et le concert d’un musicien français jouant d’un incroyable instrument. Alors, s’il vous plait, lisez attentivement notre lettre d’information et notez toutes ces dates dans votre agenda ! Dear readers, We’ve had great success with our current activities in September and October. We had to organise additional sessions of our storytelling to meet the demand. Our Cinem’Alliance gathered Malaysian and French spectators who took part in a debate after the film while sharing some refreshments and French snacks. Our café, Chez Leoniel, has already become so lively (especially on Saturdays). The Alliance Française is definitely the place to be to meet friends, make cultural discoveries, practice French and relax away from the hurly-burlyness of the city. There is so much more to come in the next two months: a gastronomy event within the framework of “the week of taste”, a very special open day to meet with our team and discover the whole range of our language and cultural offerings, film screenings inside and outside the Alliance Française (at Publika), an exhibition by a French artist in our renovated gallery space and a concert by an French musician playing an incredible instrument. NOUVEAU
Au mois de septembre et d’octobre, « Raconte-moi une histoire » a accueilli plus de 70 enfants ! Une séance supplémentaire a été proposée au mois d’octobre pour satisfaire toutes les demandes. Nous avons été ravis de retrouver les familles qui fréquentaient déjà cette animation l’an passé et d’accueillir de nouveaux spectateurs, très nombreux lors de ces deux séances de rentrée. Face à ce succès, nous avons décidé de mettre en place deux horaires par séance. Vous aurez donc le choix d’assister à la lecture de 9h30 ou de 11h15. Au programme des séances à venir, « Qui a peur du grand méchant loup ? » le 15 novembre où vos enfants feront la connaissance de loups gourmets, timides, intrépides... Pour Noël, on révisera nos classiques le 13 décembre lors de la séance « Il était une fois » avec des albums très grands formats. Après la lecture mise en scène de Grégory, comédien professionnel, on se retrouve autour d’un coloriage extrait d’une des histoires lues.
Pour la première fois, nous proposons une séance de contes dédiée aux enfants non-francophones qui apprennent le français. Sous la forme d’un atelier de découverte du vocabulaire et des personnages, les enfants exploreront avec Amandine, bibliothécaire de l’Alliance Française, deux albums adaptés à leur niveau. Grégory, comédien professionnel, les invitera ensuite à une lecture contée. Chaque enfant repartira avec un livret personnel réalisé en fin de séance.

TELL ME A STORY In September and October, over 70 children attended « Tell me a story »! An extra session was organised to meet with the demand. We were very happy to meet back with the families who used to attend the event last year and to meet a large number of newcomers during these two sessions. In response to this success, we have decided to offer two sessions in a row per month. You may now choose to attend either the 9.30am or the 11.15am session. Scheduled for the upcoming session, « Qui a peur du grand méchant loup ?” on 15 November, your kids will meet gourmet, shy or intrepid wolves… For Christmas, we will focus on classical tales on 13 December during « Il était une fois » with large picture books. The storytelling sessions are conducted by professional comedian Grégory and will be followed by a colouring time related to the books read.

NEW For the first time, we are organising a storytelling session dedicated to children who are learning French as a foreign language. Kids will learn vocabulary and discover the characters of two stories suited to their level during a workshop with Amandine, the Alliance Française librarian. A professional comedian, Grégory will then invite them to an animated reading. All children will leave with their own booklet made at the end of the session. CONCOURS PHOTO « CLIMAT, ETAT D’URGENCE » Ouvert jusqu’au 22 mars 2015 Envoyez deux photos sur le thème “Climat, état d’urgence” pour avoir une chance de remporter un voyage à Paris. Le concours se déroule en deux manches: un premier gagnant sera désigné pour la Malaisie et participera à la finale lors de laquelle le grand jury désignera le grand gagnant international. Il remportera un séjour d’une semaine en France. L’an dernier, notre gagnante malaisienne Shireen Zaidudin-Lowe a fait partie des 20 finalistes et a vu ses photographies exposées dans le cadre d’une exposition collective à Paris. PHOTO COMPETITION “CLIMATE, AN EMERGENCY STATE” Open until 22 March 2015 Send us two pictures based on the theme “Climate, an emergency state” for a chance to win a trip to Paris. The competition is composed of two parts: first, a winner will be chosen to represent Malaysia in the finale where a grand jury will award the international winner with a 1-week stay in France. CULTURE CULTURE “LA NATURE, RÊVE ET RÉALITÉ” UNE EXPOSITION DE PEINTURES PAR NAIMA CARBONARE Du samedi 22 au dimanche 30 novembre De son enfance en Afrique, Naima a gardé une connexion forte avec la Nature, qui influence la majorité de ses oeuvres. A 20 ans, alors étudiante aux Beaux Arts de Lyon, elle peint et sculpte dans une carrière abandonnée. Ce contact direct avec la nature ne l’a jamais quittée. Depuis, elle a réalisé de nombreuses performances qui ont reçu le soutien du Ministère de la Culture Une brume enchantée, 50x50 cm français et exposé dans de nombreuses galeries (Paris, Barcelone, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Wesport USA...) Naima cherche à explorer la symbiose entre l’homme et la nature. L’utilisation de la matière peinture évoque les mouvements de l’insaisissable : le vent, l’eau, la brume, le feu... La nécessité d’équilibrer le tableau avec du concret est matérialisée par la présence de pierres, d’écorce... d’élements provenant de la nature. A ses yeux, la Terre est loin d’être une boule inerte et aller à sa découverte c’est emprunter des chemins où nous pouvons, à chaque pas, prélever des miracles qui viennent enrichir l’inventaire de ses curiosités. C’est observer et restituer un monde en perpétuelle transformation ; lente comme l’érosion, ou radicale comme après un cyclone. Si les matières changent, la quête de la lumière reste, elle, immuable. “NATURE, BETWEEN DREAM AND REALITY” A PAINTING EXHIBITION BY NAIMA CARBONARE From Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 November Naima’s close connection to nature dates back to her childhood in Africa, and continues to influence most of her works. At the age of 20, when she was a student in the Fine Arts School of Lyon, she used to paint and sculpt in an abandoned quarry. This desire to be in direct contact with nature has never left her. During her career, she has produced many works which received the support of the French Ministry of Culture and has exhibited in numerous art galeries (Paris, Barcelona, Lyon, Bordeaux, Westport USA, etc.) Naima tries to explore the symbiosis between humans and nature. She uses paint to evoke everything that is elusive: wind, water, mist, fire… Her painting finds balance through the presence of stones, bark… anything that can be found in nature. In her eyes, the Earth is far from being an inert ball. By exploring it she follows paths that reveal miracles around every corner, miracles that enrich her cabinet of curiosities. She observes and depicts a world that is constantly transforming, as slowly as erosion, or as radically as a cyclone. Although matter changes, her search for light remains inalterable. Gilles Chabenat rendra une visite exceptionnelle à l’Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur pour un concert solo aux sonorités uniques. Prêtant la voix de sa vielle aux musiques actuelles, il est reconnu pour sa sensibilité et sa virtuosité. Il a su développer un univers personnel livrant des compositions déroutantes par rapport au répertoire habituel de cet instrument traditionnel.
Originaire du Centre de la France, Gilles Chabenat débute la vielle à l’âge de 13 ans. Après avoir suivi les cours de Georges Simon, il remporte plusieurs prix de musique traditionnelle et se consacre alors au répertoire de sa région. Membre du groupe corse I Muvrini pendant 12 ans, il y rencontre notamment Véronique Sanson, Florent Pagny, Stéphane Eicher et Jean-Jacques Goldman. Il collabore désormais avec des musiciens de jazz parmi lesquels Vincent Mascart, Jacques Mahieux ou Alain Bruel. Son approche de la vielle privilégie le caractère multiple d’un instrument qui se métamorphose et se réinvente sans cesse depuis plus de mille ans. Gilles Chabenat will pay a special visit to Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur for a solo concert filled with unique sonorities. Combining the sound of the hurdy-gurdy with contemporary music, he is renowned for his sensibility and virtuosity. Gilles has developed his own universe through surprising compositions that surprise compared to the usual repertoire of this traditionnal instrument. Born in Central France, Gilles Chabenat began playing the hurdy-gurdy when he was 13. After following lessons with Georges Simon, he won several music awards and subsequently devoted himself to his region’s traditional repertoire with a desire to branch out into other musical styles. A member of the famous Corsican band I Muvrini for 12 years, he has met and worked with a number of artists: Véronique Sanson, Florent Pagny, Stéphane Eicher and Jean-Jacques Goldman. More recently, he has been collaborating with jazz musicians such as Vincent Mascart, Jacques Mahieux and Alain Bruel. His approach to the hurdy-gurdy highlights the multi-faceted nature of an instrument which has been evolving constantly for over one thousand years. INFOS NEWS FORMATION “IPAD & MÉDIATHÈQUE” Pendant l’intersession, les enseignants de l’AFKL et leurs collègues de la région (LFKL, IPGM-KBA, AF Singapour et UPNM) ont eu la chance d’apprendre à manipuler les iPads et de découvrir différentes manières de les utiliser en classe. Romans photos, bandes dessinées, activités multimédia, bandes-annonces de livres : ils sont repartis avec plein d’idées en tête pour dynamiser leur enseignement et proposer des activités ludiques à leurs élèves. Cette formation, animée par Laurent Carlier, spécialiste des tablettes en pédagogie, a eu lieu dans le cadre d’un projet TICE mené à la médiathèque et soutenu par l’Institut Français. Parallèlement à l’achat des 6 iPads, l’équipe pédagogique est en train de créer des activités d’apprentissage en autonomie autour des documents de la médiathèque. A partir de janvier 2015, vous pourrez découvrir leur travail via une plateforme en ligne ou en venant emprunter un iPad à la médiathèque. Alors rendez-vous en janvier !

L’Alliance accueille Nicolas Ancion, auteur contemporain belge, pour un atelier d’écriture ouvert aux étudiants de français de Kuala Lumpur. Une matinée pour écrire, lire et échanger en français. Étudiant ou enseignant, contactez-nous pour plus d’information. Né à Liège, en 1971, Nicolas Ancion étudie la philologie romane à l’Université de Liège. A vingt-quatre ans, il publie un premier roman, Ciel bleu trop bleu, qui intrigue la critique par sa poésie absurde et cruelle. De nombreux autres romans ont suivi, pour les adultes comme pour la jeunesse, dont Quatrième étage, couronné par le Prix des Lycéens en 2001 ou Nous sommes tous des playmobiles. La plupart de ses livres sont désormais disponibles en poche aux éditions Pocket. Pendant que ses textes parcourent le monde, Nicolas voyage aussi et déménage souvent. Il habite tour à tour Montréal, Bruxelles, Madrid, Liège puis l’Aude, enfin, dans un petit village à côté de Carcassonne, où il s’installe en 2007. Develop your creativity in French! AFKL will welcome Belgian contemporary author Nicolas Ancion for a creative writing session open to all students of French from Kuala Lumpur. The morning will be dedicated to writing, reading and communicating in French. Interested students or teachers should contact the library for more information. Nicolas Ancion was born in Liege in 1971. He published his first novel at the age of 24: Ciel bleu trop bleu intrigues the critics through an absurd and cruel poetry. Many more novels will follow, aiming at both adults and kids, amongst which Fourth floor, awarded with the French High school Students Prize in 2001.
