Le Comité de l’Alliance française de Kuala Lumpur, nos professeurs, notre équipe et moi-même vous souhaitons de bonnes fêtes et une merveilleuse nouvelle année. Je tiens à remercier tous les participants et les organisateurs qui ont contribué au succès de l’exposition de Naima Carbonare, de notre journée portes ouvertes et de notre soirée de Noël. Nous sommes fiers de présenter une nouvelle exposition en partenariat avec le programme d’artistes en résidence de Sembilan en janvier prochain. Nous exposerons des œuvres de l’artiste française Jaël Estrella et de l’artiste malaisien Nicholas Choong. Ce beau projet correspond bien à l’Alliance Française et illustre un regain d’intérêt pour notre espace galerie depuis sa récente rénovation. Il est encore temps de vous inscrire au concours photo organisé par la Fondation Alliance française sur le thème “Climat état d’urgence”. Je vous invite enfin à prendre une bonne résolution pour la nouvelle année : devenir membre de notre association et nous rendre visite aussi souvent que possible en 2015 ! I should like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of our events in December: the exhibition of paintings by Naima Carbonare, the open day, and the Christmas dinner. We take pride in presenting a new exhibition in partnership with Sembilan Art Residency program in January 2015. We will exhibit works by French artist Jaël Estrella and Malaysian artist, Nicholas Choong. This beautiful project suits AFKL very well and illustrates a real renewal of interest in our gallery space since its recent renovation. Let me remind you that it is still time to take part in the photo competition organised by the Fondation Alliance Française, based on the theme “Climate, an emergency state”. ATELIERS POUR LES SCOLAIRES

Comme la formule de deux séances par matinée semble convenir au plus grand nombre, nous avons décidé de la pérenniser. Pour ceux qui n’ont pas eu la chance de voir l’hiver cette année ou pour ceux qui en veulent plus, rendez-vous le 17 janvier pour des histoires qui gèlent le bout du nez ! Et le 14 février, place à… l’amour !

Vous avez envie de proposer une nouvelle expérience en français à votre classe ? L’Alliance Française vous propose de participer à un atelier organisé spécialement pour votre groupe. Vos élèves exploreront avec Amandine, bibliothécaire de l’Alliance, un album adapté à leur niveau. Grégory, comédien professionnel, les invitera ensuite à une lecture contée. Chaque enfant repartira avec un livret personnel réalisé en fin de séance.

Après la lecture mise en scène de Grégory, comédien professionnel, les enfants se retrouvent autour d’un coloriage extrait d’une des histoires lues. Les prochaines séances Samedi 17 janvier, 9h30 et 11h15 : « C’est l’hiver ! » Samedi 14 février, 9h30 et 11h15 : « Ah ! WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS Want to offer a new learning experience for your French class? The Alliance Française invites you to join in a workshop organized just for your group! Your students will learn vocabulary and discover the characters of a story suited to their level with Amandine, the Alliance Française librarian. A professional comedian, Grégory will then invite them to an animated reading. All children will leave with their own booklet made at the end of the session. As the two sessions a day seems to be convenient for the majority of the families, we have decided to continue with it. For those who did not get to see winter this year or for those who want more, let’s meet on 17 January for stories that freeze the nose! And on 14 February, let’s talk about love! ATELIER D’ÉCRITURE Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir Nicolas Ancion pour une matinée d’écriture créative en français ! A partir d’objets et de consignes définies par l’auteur, les participants ont écrit collectivement une vingtaine de textes. Une très belle expérience pour tous ! Deux romans de Nicolas Ancion accessibles à partir du niveau A2 sont en vente à la médiathèque.

WRITING WORKSHOP We were pleased to welcome Nicolas Ancion for a morning of creative writing in French! From objects and directions given by the author, participants collectively wrote 20 texts. An enriching experience for all of us! Two of Nicolas Ancion’s novels suitable from A2 level are available for sale at the library.

KIDS WORKSHOP AT THE LIBRARY Last month we had a lot of fun during the kids workshop at the library! The story of the two rabbits Monsieur Brun and Monsieur Grisou fighting against the fox will remain vivid to everybody. A good way for children to discover French!

Le mois dernier nous nous sommes bien amusés pendant l’atelier enfants à la médiathèque ! Tous les participants se rappelleront de l’histoire des deux lapins Monsieur Brun et Monsieur Grisou qui s’associent pour échapper au renard. Une bonne manière pour les enfants de faire leurs premiers pas en français.

FLOW x SYMMETRY - PAR NICHOLAS CHOONG ET JAËL ESTRELLA 31 janvier - 14 février L’Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur a le plaisir d’accueillir Flow x Symmetry, exposition inaugurale du programme de résidence artistique sembilan. Cette exposition présente les oeuvres de Nicholas Choong et Jaël Estrella, deux artistes prometteurs aux origines diverses qui partagent le même objectif, celui de vivre une aventure unique dans leur carrière artistique.

Flow x Symmetry rassemble une sélection d’oeuvres exceptionnelles réalisées par les deux artistes durant leur résidence avec sembilan d’octobre à décembre 2014. En plus de leurs créations individuelles, une oeuvre collective sera présentée. Basé dans la ville pittoresque de Seremban, dans l’état du Negeri Sembilan, le programme de résidence offre à des artistes émergents un espace de création pour une durée de trois mois.

Flow - le courant - symbolise Nicholas dont la série évoque le parcours avec sembilan, depuis son installation dans l’atelier jusqu’à la restitution picturale de son expérience au travers de quatre portraits de personnalités reconnues pour leur talent. Symmetry entre en résonance avec Jaël, artiste française dont le travail s’inspire de la nature. Jaël trace méticuleusement le contour des motifs obtenus par la pression de l’acrylique sur le papier, créant ainsi des images et des rivières colorées qui semblent venues d’ailleurs. FLOW x SYMMETRY - BY NICHOLAS CHOONG AND JAËL ESTRELLA 31 January - 14 February The Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur happily welcomes Flow x Symmetry, the inaugural exhibition by the newly developed sembilan Art Residency Program, featuring Nicholas Choong and Jaël Estrella - two promising artists from diverse backgrounds; with the common goal to experience a unique journey in their artistic career.

Flow x Symmetry is the result of the outstanding works completed by Nicholas & Jaël during their time with sembilan from October to December 2014. The exhibition showcases the individual artist’s work of art and most interestingly, a joint collaboration piece. Based in the quaint town of Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, the residency program provides emerging artists a home away from home for three months to create new works.

Flow is represented by Nicholas as this series follows his journey from the time he settles into the art space to the emulsion of all his experience in four portraits of people recognized for their individual strengths and talent. Symmetry resonated with Jaël, a French artist who finds inspiration in nature. Jaël meticulously outlines the patterns achieved from the pressing of acrylic on paper, creating out of this world patterns and colour streams. Club Théâtre

Our clubs and workshops are open to everyone - AFKL students as well as non-students. Please note that workshops and clubs with less than the minimum number of participants might be closed. Refer to our website or offices for more details.

Avec notre professeur-comédien Grégory, abordez le théâtre et sa culture autour de textes théâtraux francophones. Vous découvrirez le monde du théâtre, la pratique de la comédie et même le frisson de la scène lors de la représentation de fin de session. Cet atelier est accessible aux apprenants comme aux francophones.

PRONONCIATION Prononcer le français peut parfois s’avérer difficile... Cet atelier s’adresse aux étudiants désireux d’améliorer leur niveau de phonétique et d’acquérir une intonation plus souple et plus proche de celle des francophones natifs. Il est ouvert à tous les niveaux.

PRONUNCIATION French pronunciation may seem difficult… This workshop is designed for students wanting to improve their phonetics and acquire a more natural intonation. TheatRE Club With our teacher-cum-actor Grégory, approach theatre and theatretical culture through classical texts. You will discover the world of theatre, the art of acting and even the thrill of the stage during the final theatretical performance. This workshop is open to all students and Frenchspeaking people. These tests assess your level in French for different skills (listening, speaking, reading and/ or writing), different purposes and have a short validity (1 to 2 years). Do not hesitate to discuss your project with us - we will recommend the test which suits your goals the best.
