SOMMAIRE CONTENTS
Chers membres, étudiants et amis de l’Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur, Après une courte pause estivale tout le monde est de retour à l’Alliance Française. Certains d’entre nous ont visité la France pendant l’été et se sont ainsi joints aux 83 millions de touristes étrangers qui font de la France la première destination touristique au monde. Nos cours de français ne se sont cependant jamais interrompus et nous préparons déjà la prochaine session de cours qui débutera en octobre. Nous vous proposerons une gamme complète de niveaux pour adultes, enfants et adolescents, du français des affaires et de nouveaux ateliers qui vous aideront à acquérir la confiance en soi nécessaire pour parler en français. L’Alliance a fait l’objet de nouveaux travaux de rénovation en juillet. Notre foyer est plus plaisant et mieux éclairé. Mais la meilleure nouvelle est que notre café rouvrira en septembre. De succulentes viennoiseries françaises, du très bon café et d’autres boissons seront préparées et servies par Leoniel qui est également un étudiant de l’AFKL. Nous souhaitons que notre Cinem’Alliance soit plus convivial et permette à nos étudiants et à nos membres de pratiquer le français. Nos prochaines séances comprendront un film, des en-cas et des boissons françaises ainsi que la possibilité de débattre et d’échanger sur le film avec Béatrice, une française passionnée de cinéma. Alors, ne manquez pas la prochaine projection et bon retour à l’Alliance Française ! Dear members, students and friends of AFKL, After a short break, everyone is now back to work at Alliance Française. Some of us visited France during the summer and joined the 83 million of foreign tourists who make France the world’s top tourist destination. Our French classes never stopped though and our next session will start in October. It comes with a full range of classes for adults, teenagers and children, business classes and new workshops which will greatly help you to increase your confidence in using the French language. The Alliance went through some extra renovation works in July. Our main hall is much more pleasant and the best piece of news is that our café will reopen in September. Pastries, delicious French croissants, good coffees, teas and other drinks will be made and served by Leoniel who also happens to be one of our students. We want our Cinem’Alliance to be friendlier and to give our students and members the opportunity to practise their French. So our next screenings will include French snacks and refreshments and the possibility to debate about the film with Béatrice, a French true cinema lover. So don’t miss it and welcome back to AFKL!

C’est l’heure aussi de renouer avec votre rendez-vous mensuel de lecture de contes à la médiathèque de l’Alliance Française et c’est bien sûr d’école que les histoires du mois de septembre parleront. Pour ceux qui n’ont pas encore eu l’occasion d’y participer, « Raconte-moi une histoire » c’est plusieurs albums jeunesse sélectionnés autour d’un thème, lus et mis en scène en français par Grégory, comédien. Les séances s’achèvent toujours par une activité manuelle ou un coloriage. Recommandé pour les enfants de 3 à 7 ans mais tout le monde est bienvenu. TELL ME A STORY Saturday 13 September / Saturday 11 October Summer is almost gone. It’s time to go back to school! It’s also time to attend your monthly storytelling session at the Alliance Française’s library - and of course the September stories will be about school. For the curious, ‘Tell me a story’ is a storytelling session composed of several children’s books devoted to one theme and narrated in French by Gregory, a French actor. Each session ends with a coloring activity. Recommended for children from 3 to 7 years old but everyone is welcome! Next sessions Saturday 13 September, 10:30am: C’est la rentrée ! CULTURE CULTURE CONCOURS PHOTO « CLIMAT, ETAT D’URGENCE » Le 5ème concours international de photographie de la Fondation Alliance Française est lancé. Il est gratuit et ouvert à tous les adultes. En convergence avec la XXIème Conférence sur le changement climatique que la France accueillera fin 2015, le concours a cette année pour thème : « Climat, état d’urgence » et s’effectue sous le prestigieux parrainage du photographe et réalisateur Yann Arthus Bertrand. Quelles questions se posent en Malaisie sur le climat et ses évolutions ? Quels effets dans la vie des gens ? Quelles solutions, publiques ou privées, sont prises ou imaginées pour lutter contre les effets négatifs de ces évolutions ? Illustrez ces questions en deux photos et envoyez-les avant le 22 mars 2015 ! A l’issue d’une première sélection, un gagnant pour la Malaisie sera désigné par un jury le 22 avril 2015. Les résultats seront annoncés à l’occasion d’une soirée de projection du film de Yann Arthus Bertrand, Home. Le gagnant concourra en finale internationale en juin. Le lauréat sélectionné par le jury parisien sera invité à Paris pendant une semaine (voyage et séjour payés), et les 40 photographies sélectionnées par le jury feront l’objet d’une exposition collective présentée à Paris et dans le monde. PHOTO COMPETITION “CLIMATE, AN EMERGENCY STATE” The 5 th international photo competition organised yearly by the Fondation Alliance Française is now open. Participation is free and open to all adults. In conjunction with the 21 st Conference on climate change that France will host at the end of 2015, the theme chosen for the competition this year is “Climate, an emergency state” and is placed under the prestigious patronage of photographer and film director Yann Arthus Bertrand. Which issues are raised in Malaysia on climate and its evolutions? How do they affect people’s lives? Which solutions – public or private – are imagined or implemented to fight the negative outcome of these evolutions? Illustrate these issues through 2 photos and send them to us by 22 March 2015! A winner on the national level will be decided by a jury on 22 April 2015. Results will be announced during an event which will include the screening of Home , a movie directed by Yann Arthus Bertrand. The winner will compete as part of the international finale in June. The grand winner from the finale selected by the Parisian jury will be invited to Paris for one week (transportation and stay included) and the 40 photographs selected by the jury will be presented as part of a collective exhibition in Paris and abroad. CULTURE CULTURE Cycle de cONFÉRENCEs - LA LAÏCITÉ FRANÇAISE 24-25 septembre L’Institut pour la Démocratie et les Affaires Economiques (IDEAS), en collaboration avec l’Ambassade de France en Malaisie, organise un cycle de conférences portant sur la laïcité en France qui diffère de celle du monde anglo-saxon. Au nom de la laïcité, l’Etat joue en effet un rôle majeur pour garder la religion hors de la sphère publique, maintenant une séparation stricte entre les deux. Cette série de rencontres entre Valentine Zuber, chercheuse universitaire experte dans la laïcité en France, et des intellectuels malaisiens, souhaite engendrer un débat honnête et ouvert sur la position réelle et idéale de l’Etat par rapport à la religion. Talks on French secularism 24-25 September The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), in collaboration with the Embassy of France, organises a series of talks on French secularism or laïcité which differs from the secularism of the Anglosphere. Indeed, under the laïcité paradigm, the state plays an active role in keeping religion out of public life, maintaining the strict separation between state and religion. The series of meetings between Valentine Zuber, academic Expert on secularism in France, and local intellectuals will seek to generate honest and open discussion on the role of state with regards to religion, in order to encourage discussion and debate on the extent to which the state should play a role in intervening in religion. These tests assess your level in French for different skills (listening, speaking, reading and/or writing), different purposes and a short validity (1 to 2 years). Do not hesitate to discuss your project with us - we will recommend the test which suits your goals the best. Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur is a center to sit for: - TCF & TEF: to assess your level, to join French university - TCF-ANF: to apply for French nationality if you are married to a French citizen - TCF-Q & TEFaQ: to immigrate to Quebec. Please, be aware that, since July 2013, Quebec government changed the rules for immigration: level B2 is now required for oral skills (listening and speaking) and written skills (reading, writing) can also give you extra points.
