Summer Lee announces re-election campaign for U.S. Congress by Rob Taylor Jr. Courier Staff Writer
Nothing seems to stop Congresswoman Summer Lee. Small in stature, but powerful and mighty in the heart, the mind, and in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. In front of a crowd of supporters at The Art Room in the Strip District, Dec. 8, 2025, she officially announced her campaign for re-election to Pa. District 12 in the U.S. Congress. After her tenure as a state representative locally in the 34th House District, she ran for Congress in 2022, and won. She took office in Washington in January 2023. In January 2025, she started her second term in Congress, after defeating Republican James Hayes in the 2024 General Election. More than likely, if she wins the Democratic Primary Election on May 19, 2026, she'll cruise to the seat over the Republican or Independent challenger in the November 2026 General Election, which would cement her third term in Congress. "We fight in our community to make sure that every child has a quality education irrespective of their zip code
or their socioeconomic status, because we know that education is the cornerstone of democracy and we won't accept less," Congresswoman Lee proudly said to her supporters on Dec. 8. U.S. Rep. Lee continued to rattle off her most important issues she stands for as a congresswoman. "We fight for housing for all, affordable in the neighborhoods that you call home, because you deserve to be able to build in your neighborhood. And Black folks, and brown folks, you deserve to not be pushed out of your communities, because we are here, we are in the future, and we're not going anywhere." U.S. Rep. Lee, who celebrated her 38th birthday on Nov. 26, 2025, has been a mainstay on national news programs such as NBC's "Meet The Press Daily" and CBS' "Face The Nation." She is known to stand up to the U.S.' current president, Donald Trump, when she disagrees with his commentaries or proposals. Closer to home, she recently stood up to the powers at The Waterfront in HomeSEE LEE A4

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pa. opens teen center Downtown Open Mon. through Thur., 3 to 8 p.m. by Naomi C. Ilochi For New Pittsburgh Courier
The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania has opened a "CLUB Teen Center" in Downtown Pittsburgh, at 600 Liberty Avenue. The center is housed in the former Pittsburgh Police mini-substation. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police has since relocated to a larger Downtown hub on Wood Street. Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania President & CEO Chris Watts said the organization "landed on a federal partner in the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, who does so much and has done so much for Downtown, the vibrancy of Downtown, but also is a mission-aligned organization that cares about all Downtown users and teens
specifically, knowing that unsupervised teens and teens without options are going to be kids. And when they're kids, there might be things that go on, and programs like the Boys & Girls Club can help address some of that.” When the next generation is supported, their needs are met, and their dreams are encouraged, things begin to change. Youth-on-youth violence lessens, mental health improves, safe spaces are cultivated, and dreams are actualized. Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania aims to be part of the solution. The "CLUB Teen Center" Downtown is open from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, to kids and high-schoolers attending any school. Watts and his team at SEE BOYS & GIRLS A2
