AG EN DA | D E TAILE D Sunday, January 31 Welcome and Opening Remarks Wendy Zdeb, MASSP Executive Director 8:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.

Pause. Breathe. Flourish.: Living Your Best Life Now As An Educator Will Parker, Principal Matters, LLC, National Speaker and Author 8:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.

When you fly on an airplane, if the cabin loses pressure, place your oxygen mask on first before helping others. But education leaders are especially prone to helping others before taking care of themselves. The result? Anxiety and burnout. In this collaborative, hands-on, reflective keynote on Will’s newest book, you dig deep into the root issues surrounding your motivations for leadership. Will shares ten essential principles all educators need for personal and professional growth. Spend time in guided exploration, discussion, and consultation on goal-setting, selfimprovement, and strategies on how to invest in self-care and find ways to live your best life now as an educator and individual.

William D. Parker is the Founder of Principal Matters, LLC, an author and speaker who uses his expertise in school culture, leadership and communication to equip educators with solutions and strategies for motivating students, inspiring teachers, and reaching communities. He also proudly serves as the executive director of Oklahoma’s Association of Secondary Principals and Oklahoma’s Middle Level Educator Association. He is the former principal of Skiatook High School, near Tulsa, Oklahoma. His books, resources, blog posts and weekly podcast episodes can be found at his website: www.williamdparker.com. An Oklahoma educator since 1993, Will was named Broken Arrow Public School’s South Intermediate High School Teacher of the Year in 1998. He became an assistant principal in 2004 and was named the Oklahoma Assistant Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary Principals in 2012. As principal of a Title I school, his school’s innovative approaches to collaboration, remediation, and mentoring resulted in marked improvements in student performance. William serves schools through professional development and leadership support. He is regularly asked to present at K-12 professional development events, education conferences, leadership teams, and graduate classes on effective practices, organizational management, and strategies for enhancing school communication. He and his wife, Missy, have been married twenty-six years and have four children: two daughters who attend college and a daughter and son who are currently in high school. They live in Owasso, Oklahoma along with their two rambunctious cats and two frequently disobedient dogs in Owasso, Oklahoma. Find out more about his presentations at his website, www.williamdparker.com, or contact him by email at will@williamdparker.com.

Remote learning has invaded our personal space. Our homes have become our offices, our families and pets have become our co-workers. This session will identify ways to keep your personal time sacred while also meeting work obligations.

Lonely At the Top: The Shift from Assistant Principal to Principal [Megan O’Brien, Huron High School]

This session will provide the participants with a first-hand account of what it is like to make the big shift from AP to principal. Some key topics will include learning to rebuild your team, managing the work-load, community expectations, finding your network, and finding new ways to stay intrinsically motivated.

Hornet Time: Innovating Wellness and Building a Safe School Environment Through Equitable Connections Between Students and Staff [Theresa Stager & Kirk Evenson, Saline High School]

In 2017, Saline High School implemented Hornet Time as a way to allow all students the opportunity to have an adult to connect to, foster social-emotional learning, and incorporate Link Crew to ease the transition from 8th to 9th grade. Each grade level has a needs-based specific curriculum and the cohort stays together their entire time at SHS. All staff, including teachers, social workers, counselors, and administrators have a cohort of students. COVID changed how our time in school looked, and it changed Hornet Time, too. We are excited to share our road to Hornet Time and how we innovated during the pandemic.

Learn to Shine Bright: Self-Care in the Time of COVID [Dr. Mary Jenkins-Williams, Wayne-Westland Community School District]

Self-care is all about taking care of your health and making sure that you have everything you need to thrive as an administrator. It’s about preparing you to be the best administrator you can be for yourself and your staff. In addition, self-care is an important component of your teacher’s mental health especially as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees will learn: how the COVID-19 pandemic has produced toxic stress and trauma which can affect the body; why self care is important especially at this time; and self-care activities for your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of your staff.

Building Community to Ensure Learning & Well-Being [Dr. Lara Dixon, Troy-Athens High School]

Unprecedented times require unprecedented action. The pandemic has been a catalyst to be more thoughtful, reflective, collaborative, unified, purposeful and open. We have spent more time than ever before, talking, listening, learning and changing. In this session we will share examples of the most impactful and innovative things Troy School District and Troy Athens High School has done to better meet our student and staff member’s needs of safety, dignity, and belonging so that well-being is prioritized, and authentic learning occurs. We will also share how it is going and what we will do next to further forward equity, opportunity, and learning for all.
