Welcome to States! States Planning Committee Welcome Hello Leaders! Eisenhower High School is beyond excited to host this virtual state conference for all of you! This past year has turned our world upside down, creating a new “normal” that is not normal at all. We have all had to find ways to cope with the isolation, fear of losing loved ones, missing out on sports seasons, and the loss of traditional school sponsored events that we look forward to each year. Moreover, seniors missed out on the opportunity to experience high school events one last time before they continue their journey. One of the biggest challenges that Eisenhower has faced this year was not being able to host this leadership conference in person. Despite this disappointing revelation, we came together as a council and decided we were not going to quit on our leadership community. We have embraced the opportunity to present you with an amazing and unique virtual conference that will prove to be a positive experience and foster growth and development in each of you. We recognize this is not what you were looking forward to either, but ask that you be open minded and maximize this opportunity. Now more than ever, it’s important for student leaders to have their flames reignited so that they can continue to make a positive impact in their communities. Although many negatives have been highlighted during these unprecedented times, there have also been new opportunities to learn, grow, and connect as leaders and people. Being in isolation, we were forced to reflect, discover who we truly are, and who we aspire to be. We have also learned the importance of empathy and compassion during these difficult times. We have learned the true power in our voices that call for change and demand to be heard. We acknowledge the adversity that all of you have faced. We celebrate that you are all here and eager to grow. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring leaders from around the state together and to not only impart our knowledge onto you, but to highlight the amazing things that you have continued to do during the pandemic. This pandemic has taken too much away from us and we refuse to let this be one of them. Eisenhower is honored and excited to be the 2021 host of the Michigan Leadership Conference. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity and bring even more enthusiasm and energy to this conference than you did in years past. Now, let’s get together and Break the News!! Executive Board Message Student Leaders of Michigan, It has been a blessing and an honor to serve as the Executive Board of MASC’s Student Board of Delegates. We have been fortunate enough to serve such a promising organization. For that, we are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to learn and grow alongside student leaders who are passionate about not only bettering themselves but their communities. This year you all have shown true leadership through your encouragement and dedication to your work. As a board, we commend you for your perseverance throughout this unprecedented time. Regardless of if you have been with our organization for one year or four, you made a commitment to bettering yourself and for that, you should be proud. To seniors, we want to congratulate you on completing your final year of high school. Not one student can say this year was not challenging. We applaud you and wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. We would like to take a second to thank the people responsible for this conference. First and foremost, a huge thank you to Eisenhower High School for making such an amazing event possible! Especially given how challenging of a year it has been, we admire the dedication you have; it’s what makes IKE a phenomenal host school. Thank you Matt, our BoD father, for encouraging us in a time where optimism is hard to find. Through your faith in us, you have pushed us to better ourselves. Thank you KK for being a constant source of laughter and for spending countless hours to make everything possible. Thank you Angel, for being our saving grace and for your work behind the scenes. To everyone at MASSP, in CVFC, and to the rest of our beloved BoD family, thank you for the endless love and support. Most importantly, thank you to all the student leaders here, who have put their hearts and souls into this organization. Despite the challenges you have fought this year, you have continued to support the growth of your schools and communities and we admire you for that. Thank you for joining us this weekend and we hope you enjoy the rest of your time at the 2021 State Conference. What to Wear Our Student Leadership State Conference aims to provide an educational experience from top to bottom, which is why we require students to dress in business professional attire throughout the weekend.

Just kidding. Although virtual, we are still incorporating our traditional suggested attire for each day of the conference to add some variety and fun to the event. We will encourage “cameras on” throughout the event, and highlight student apparel each day. Friday: School T-shirt Day – During the day, wear your COUNCIL, NHS or GOVERNMENT shirts. Coordinate with your group to wear your group’s best shirt! Saturday: Weather Report – Our Host School reporters are looking for additional “Weather Correspondents” during Saturday’s programming! Help dress the part as your attire will reflect the virtual weather happening all across the state. Is it freezing? Hurricane? Bright and sunny? You tell us! Be creative, add some fun props and come prepared to provide your own fun/fake weather report. (When planning, please remind your group that all outfits must still remain conference appropriate). Sunday: Wear your “Break the News” conference t-shirt or any MASC conference T-Shirt you have laying around! Awards Ceremony: On Sunday night, we hold our annual state awards ceremony. This ceremony is a semi-formal event and although virtual, we ask students to dress accordingly to match the tone of the session. Student Celebration: After the conclusion of Saturday’s conference schedule, our host school (Eisenhower High School) will be facilitating informal activity sessions. These sessions will take place from 8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Saturday night as a way to relax, play games and network with fellow students across the state. All students are welcome to attend and share some laughs! Dress Code Video: For more information on what to wear during the State Conference, check out our host school’s dress code video.
