A Sense of History

“How can History be embodied, allowing it to escape from purely decorative narrative purposes? ”

To explore the possibility of embodied history, I need to approach History subjectively; to treat my own experiences and memories as a part of history and history as part of me. This approach is proven challenging as there is a jarring clash between the rational mind, that persistently invalidates intuitive gestures and the intuition, that persistently calls to be represented abstractly as a response to new knowledge. These attempts are not purely representational, trying to give form to history; they are more fundemental, trying to reveal the true form of history, that is if it exists. The temporal conclusion of this research is that both objective and subjective history are decorative. What “exists” or persists is an impression of history, abstraction of history, a sense of history?

Reconstructing Excavation of

Historic Site

1. I first started with an intent to represent “trauma of excavation” through depths ofcut, not accurately, but controllably.

2.The intent gets weaker with each passing incison. Control overtaken by intuition.

3.I have to stop and forcefully collect myself and regain control.

The more you dig, the more you forget.

REPEAT STEP 1

Urban Fragmentation

The urban landscape is full of repetitive as the five to the gradual mentation.

Fragmentation

landscape around Duxton HIll repetitive urban elements, such five foot-ways, that contribute gradual sense of visual frage mentation. At first, this gradual ity seems poetic but when walked more, it renders urban experience predictable.

The aim of this project is to introduce a collage of fragmented experience, elements of surprises, justaposed agaianst the gradual nature of Duxton’s urban composition.

MAINTENANCE FREAK !

This project is built at first from my fascination of the maintenance aspect of mytwo elements, mechanical shafts and plants/ planters. This project attempts to rethink the relationship between served and service space in the context of Mei Ling market and hawker-fresh food market center in general. The design journey starts from learning how maintenance movement causes different scale of functional displacement. This leads to an exploration of intervention of different scales ( point, path and form).

A Take on Reggio-Emilia Childcare

Pedagogy

The Atelier space is a key space in RE; it is a space that encourages representation of ideas through art. Besides the well-established RE model, the pre-school also includes digital atelier that caters to contemporary habits and needs.

Outddor play is also optimiseed by utlizing the site’s shape, constraints and ground textures.

CUBBIES

NEGATIVE APARTMENT

What if an apartment is defined primarily by occupation of its negative spaces, of voids more than rooms?

A Piece of Infinity

The concept for this project is discovered upon the realization of an urabn scenery around the site that is deprived of skyscape. What is so special about the sky? It gives one a sense of infinity, of freedom.
