The Bakersfield ARC (BARC) and Goodwill Industries of South Central California, along with Bakersfield College, CSUB, The City of Bakersfield, The Bakersfield Californian and Union Bank have come together to bring back two recycling drop-off centers within the City of Bakersfield with plans to expand efforts over the next few years. In February, BARC installed four recycling bins designed specifically for placement at Bakersfield College and Cal State University Bakersfield. The Community Recycling Drop-off Centers are being reestablished to collect donated recyclable materials only. These are not buy-back centers. mental Disabilities in Kern County. Acceptable items that may be dropped off for recycling include: aluminum and tin cans, #1 PET plastic, Glass, #2 Natural plastic (milk containers), #2 HDPE Plastic (not bags), flattened cardboard and mixed paper. On June 30, 2014, all six of the Community Recycling Drop-off centers throughout Bakersfield were closed leaving the community with fewer recycling options. The collection container bins for this program were donated to BARC by The Bakersfield Californian and additional containers were provided by the City of Bakersfield.
