BARC YARD SALE is First Of It’s Kind on Campus - Employees Spearhead Effort We are counting down the days for the BARC YARD SALE and BBQ that is being hosted exclusively by employees of BARC! The committee has been working diligently under the direction of Angela BARR of Packaging and Jennifer Castro of MOVE for the past few weeks as we quickly approach the date of the big event.

The committee is composed of 14 members from Packaging, MOVE, BARC Shop, Access Now and Foundation. The members are: Jill York, Gill Aguilera, Oscar Jimenez, Stephanie Ramirez, Angela Barr, Silvia Madrid, Connie Munoz, Jennifer Castro, Ray Alverez, Thecia Howlett, Valerie Soria, Gil Garcia, Linda Hartman and Ray Creekbaum.

“We will be pricing items all next week in an effort to be ready for the big sale” said Angela Barr, “we definitely have something for everyone with the variety of contributions that both individuals and local businesses have been donating to BARC.”

The Party City and KGET Channel 17 organizations donated a large number of items that have helped beef up the inventory for the Yard Sale. The retail value of Party City’s event supply contribution reached the $40,000 mark. KGET’s donation consisted of office chairs, TV’s, entertainment centers and more.

This is the first fundraising event of its kind to sweep across the BARC organization.

“Because the employees have ownership of the planning and execution of this event, it has created great excitement” said Gil Garcia of Foundation.

Many individuals have contributed items such as cabinets, clothing, treadmills, fans, prom dresses, home décor and much more. It has been reported that several employees blanketed their neighborhoods with fliers asking for donations of yard sale items. Thanks to all the staff who have helped get this effort off ground!

BARC Staff and Clients enjoyed helping support GET's Annual Food Drive that was held at the Valley Plaza in the Sears parking lot in March. A great time was had by all. This event is something the Clients look forward to each year.

We’re looking for Volunteers for the BARC PROM! We need help: Setting up on Friday afternoon on April 17th, help setting up on Saturday from 2pm-5pm and a few Chaperones to help out at the dance from 5-9pm. Please contact Jeremiah at ext. 287 for info

Strawberries & Cream Surprise Recipe ~ Submitted by Reba Carter Crust: 1 pouch (1lb 1.5oz) Betty Crocker™ sugar cookie mix 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 egg Filling: 1 cup white vanilla baking chips (6oz) 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened Topping: 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1/3 cup water

Heat oven to 350°F. Spray bottom only of 15x10x1- or 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray.

In large bowl, stir cookie mix, butter and egg until soft dough forms. Press evenly in bottom of pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. In small microwavable bowl, microwave baking chips uncovered on High 45 to 60 seconds or until chips are melted and can be

stirred smooth. In medium bowl, beat cream cheese with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Stir in melted chips until blended. Spread mixture over crust. Refrigerate while making topping. 3. In small bowl, crush 1 cup of the strawberries. In 2quart saucepan, mix sugar and corn-

starch. Stir in crushed strawberries and 1/3 cup water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and thickens. Stir in food color. Cool 10 minutes. Gently stir in remaining 3 cups strawberries.

Spoon topping over filling. Refrigerate 1 hour
