From the Chairman and President On behalf of our Board of Directors, Staff, Business Partners and Clients of The Bakersfield ARC, we are proud to present our Annual Report for 2013-2014.

Going on 66 years, BARC has served as a focal point within the community for people who are Intellectually or Developmentally Disabled (I/DD). As reflected in this report, BARC continues its commitment to fulfill its mission of building a stronger community by helping people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities achieve individual goals for a better life.

BARC Wish List The Bakersfield ARC serves over 400 adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities each day with support. There is an ongoing need for items to allow us to continue to provide those services at the highest level. BARC Success Story

Itzel Regains Independence with Help from BARC on the MOVE Itzel as been coming to BARC for close to ten years. She has always used a Kaye Walker to assist her with walking. A terrible car accident in 2011 left her dependent on the use of a wheelchair. Itzel needed physical therapy to help re-build muscle in one of her hands and legs and to re-learn how to walk. MOVE assisted in reinforcing her therapy and recovery and now she can walk again with the use of the Kaye Walker. We’ve seen improved dexterity in her hands and legs since she’s been in MOVE. Itzel has gained back her independence and has returned to an active lifestyle participating in group activities with her friends at BARC and at home.
