Have the flower fairies been Bromsgrove?visiting

Cast your mind back to May 5th. You will probably remember the day if you were lucky enough to find the free gift of a flower arrangement.

Small flower bouquets were left as surprise gifts, not by flower fairies, but by members of Bromsgrove Flower Club. These gifts were left to make someone’s day and to celebrate National Flower Arranging Day. If you were one of the lucky people who found a gift, Bromsgrove Flower Club members hope you enjoyed your surprise.

At the June meeting, flower demonstrator Jo Davis took ‘Women Who Changed the World’ as her theme. First, she chose Emmeline Pankhurst, well known as a campaigner for votes for women.

Other choices included: Octavia Hill – a Victorian woman who promoted good housing and open air spaces for the poor. She helped to found the National Trust; Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, better known as Coco Chanel, who designed the ‘little black dress’ in 1925, and Chanel No 5 perfume in 1926. This remains a best seller; Lesley Hornby, better known as Twiggy, who was the face of the 1960s.

At this month’s meeting on Thursday, July 20th, the guest demonstrator will be Emma Da Silva, who has chosen ‘A Great British Summer Time’, as her title. Emma’s arrangements will be included as prizes in the raffle. The title for the July competition is ‘Red, White and Blue’.

Throughout the year, Bromsgrove Flower Club meets every third Thursday of the month at 2pm at All Saints Church Hall, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove, B60 1AF.

On Thursday, August 17th, the guest demonstrator will be Christine Ramsey. The title of her demonstration is ‘Past and Present. A history of flower arranging’.

Christine’s arrangements will be included as raffle prizes. The title for the August competition is ‘Flowers in a frame’. Everyone is encouraged to enter and to interpret the title.

Everyone is welcome to join us. Come for tea and a chat and enjoy an uplifting afternoon. The entrance fee for members is £3 and for visitors the entrance fee is £8.
