He explained that a couple should “never go to bed on an argument” , while also emphasising the importance of looking after each other unwaveringly and to always share experiences and feelings with your partner.

Martyn Davies gave a speech at an event held at Bromsgrove care home, Burcot Grange and Lodge, to mark his and wife Gloria’s 60th wedding anniversary on June 24th, 2023.

The home, which is part of the Berkley Care Group, invited Martyn and Gloria’s family and friends to celebrate their milestone at the property’s facilities.

The couple first met in 1959 at the Laura Dixson’s dance hall in Birmingham when Martyn and Gloria were 19 and 18 respectively. The hall was a popular social hub in the 1950s.

Martyn proposed to Gloria in her family home in 1961. They exchanged vows shortly before Gloria turned 21 and were joined by their families at The Hollybush in Quinton. Their wedding day was attended by around 120 loved ones and is a treasured memory for the couple.

Following the wedding, the newlyweds embarked on a romantic honeymoon getaway to Jersey. However, the marriage initially got off to a rocky start following an unforeseen incident at the seaside, resulting in a hospital visit for Martyn.

General manager of Burcot Grange and Lodge, Vicky Osborne said: “We are delighted to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Gloria and Martyn. It was lovely to welcome their family and friends to join us in celebrating this incredible milestone.

“The celebration of Gloria and Martyn’s wedding anniversary is testament to the quality of care we provide to our dementia residents. It was wonderful to witness their journey and be a part of their special day, surrounded by their loved ones.”
