S y r a c u s e , G r e e k c i t y. S y r a c u s e , C o n t e m p o r a r y c i t y. The city of Syracuse and its culture are permeated by the Greek heritage. Our research aimed to establish a relationship between the nowoday’s city and the old part of it, that remains as a testimony of a great past. The Greek city shows how the geomorphological features of the site are combined with the Urban Costruction; considering this as an important value, our aim was to attempt an integrated approah that studies the greek lesson, in order to combine the Neapolis and the features of the landscape with the urban fabric, the old Syracuse with the new one, hoping to create a hiqh quality coexistance. We need to go beyond the fence that divides the two conditions and establish continuity between them; the great complexity and stratificat i o n m u s t b e e n h a n c e d a s q u a l i t i e s o f t h e c i t y, b y t h e c r e a t i o n o f c o n nections.

Connections sea-archaeology-city. Piazza Adda, the new urban gate for the Neapolis. The projects aims to reconfigure the current Piazza Adda, that lost his urban r o l e b e c o m i n g a t r i a n g u l a r i n t e r s t i c e , v o i d o f a n y a r c h i t e c t u r a l q u a l i t y, c o n nected to the “modern” city by a circular area used as a parking. The triangular shaped area becomes an inclined plane towards the archaeological area of thòlos, and a new public builing is designed as a gate for the said area; two blocks stand as supports that “uphold” an hypostyle hall, as it occurred in the ancient cella of Ancient Greek themples, creating stereotomic and tectonic spaces as the same time. Two more builings complete the spatial configuration of the square: a multilevel parking lays on the current block between Largo 2 giugno and Via Ofanto-Via Brenta, where the preexisting building is demolited; the second edifice is meant to be a landmark, a tower building that a n n o u n c e f r o m f a r t h e n e w b o r n p i e c e o f c i t y. the project insists on four different themes: the loggia that acts as a filter between interior and exterior: towards the park on one side, and towards the sea on the other one; the relationship with the park aims to generate a space with strong naturalistic connotations and closely linked to the buildings, according to the permeability of the ground floor of them; the architectural theme is breaking up the structure into two different types: the skin has been designed as a hard shell, while the inner part is opened and permeable. The buildings have both residential and commercial functions. 29

Along this perimeter, and within the area partially bounded by it, there are buildings and public spaces that want to become part of this system. An "urban mosaic" to be reconstructed. The aim of the project is to complete the edge of the city by imagining a linear park that follows the trace, or the alleged trace, of the ancient walls and that allows to connect the archaeological system with the contemporary c i t y. Poissy is a city of 38.000 inhabitants, set in the iIle-de-France region, just 30km from Paris. Since the Roman age, when it was a focus point for trades, this town keeps its importance over time. This small town is characterized by three main issues: the problem of the inundations, the separation between the city and the river and the absence of any kind of touristic infrastructure. The strategies that we suggest to solve these problems are based on the theme of connection. Improving the connections around the city by creating a new systems that links the surrounding areas, touristic attractions and the river. To m a k e t h e t o u r i s t i c r o u t e s a r o u n d t h e c i t y e a s i e r t o u n d e r s t a n d w e h a v e placed a sequence of white cubes design and based on the Ville Savoye that lead you from the center of the city to the villa. There are 2 parts to our project: first we looked into the problem of inundation where we have design a water square. This will also provided a new landscape and area in which the inhabitants of Poissy can spend there time. It will reconnect the city with the river. Secondly the new buildings will provided information shop, cafes, restaur a n t s a n d o t h e r f u n c t i o n s f o r t h e l o c a l c o m m u n i t y.

INTERSTICE It represents an architectural combination of paths, natural atmospheres and thresholds, that are related with the buildings and the geomorfological features of the site, as Latomia del Paradiso and the archaeological excavations.

PAT H S They steer visitors trough the space, between trees, shades and the glimpses of the buildings, of the archaeological remains and the nature elements. The narrow route network is a maze that develops all over the area, that invites visitors to get lost and discover the different corners of the park. A bigger network of paths leads people through the labyrinth and organize the whole park.

THRESHOLDS They allow visitors to stop for a while and have a rest, to exit and enter from a part of the park to another. In this sense, thresholds are considered as
