Introduction

HELLO!

my name is Michael. I am a technology and AI enthusiast with a deep interest in how technology can simplify and enhance our work efficiency During my studies, I specialized in Parametric and Generative Design using Grasshopper. However, I consider myself as a generalist I believe that knowledge is not confined to Architecture, and all disciplines are interconnected like a web. To be an effective problem solver, I strive to understand various fields of study

The building site is located within 300 meters of the cultural heritage area in Semarang known as Kota Lama In response to this the architectural design of the Basketball Arena is envisioned to be contextual, drawing inspiration from the architectural elements found in Kota Lama The goal is to establish a connection and harmony between the building and its surrounding environment while still incorporatingelementsofinnovationandpost-modernism

ThebuildingsinKotaLamaarecharacterizedbycolonialarchitecturalstyles whichemergedfromthefusionofEuropeanarchitecture(such as Art Nouveau, Classical Revival, and Neo-Gothic) with the local context of the area Through analysis, I have identified several typologies andelementsthatcanbeincorporatedintothefacadeormassingofthedesign Theseincludelouvers arches cornerstones balustrades and saddle-shaped roofs shields and domes which visually define the colonial architectural facade Most of these elements can be integrated into the design to showcase the connectivity between the new building and Kota Lama However, considering the functional aspectsofthebasketballarena theimplementationoftraditionalroofelementsfromthebuildingsinKotaLamaisnotfeasible

Therefore to formulate the roof design of the Basketball Arena I attempted to deconstruct the fundamental elements of colonial architecture which combined European architectural styles (such as Art Nouveau Classical Revival and Neo-Gothic) with the local characteristic Idelvedintothepasttounderstandhowarenasorstadiumsweredesignedduringthateraorinpreviouseras Throughthis process Idiscoveredtheoriginsoftheconceptofsportsarenasandimplementitwithinthedesign

CONCEPT

Based on the typological analysis of colonial and related architectural facades that I have observed, I reinterpreted the form of the facade using semiotic and semantic methods to convey the meaning that this building is an arena for competitions and seamlessly integrates with Kota Lama This was achieved by incorporating arch shapes and circular design patterns reminiscent of a colosseumThe Louver element is applied to establish a sense of locality within the design while serving as protection from sunlight and rain, as well as enhancing the building's airflow quality The roof designisamodificationofthedome-shapedroofsfound in Kota Lama, Semarang By utilizing these fragmented elements, the design aims to harmoniously blend the aesthetics and functionality of a basketball arena while capturing the essence of the surrounding architectural context

CONCEPT

To support the administration and development of the tourism sector in various regions of Indonesia, students are asked to simulate the design of the Department of Tourism and Culture building in the specified regions. In this context, the region where the Department of Tourism building will be constructed is Palu City, Central Sulawesi. The design should reflect the local culture and heritage, incorporate sustainable building practices, and consider the needs of both administrative functions and visitor engagement. This project aims to create a hub for tourism development that not only serves as an administrative center but also as a cultural landmark that promotes and preserves the unique identity of Palu and its surroundings. The building should include spaces for exhibitions, visitor information services, administrative offices, conference rooms, and other necessary facilities to support the growth and management of the tourism sector in Palu.

SCUFACULTYOFMEDICINE

KotaSemarang,JawaTengah

A project for the Faculty of Medicine building at Unika, located in BSB Semarang. The building is designed to accommodate 300 students and 80 staff members. It is equipped with laboratory facilities, an auditorium, a canteen, classrooms, and 2 basement parking floors. The building is designed with an ecological concept, incorporating natural ventilation and natural lighting into its design. Additionally, the building facade features a kinetic facade combined with solar panels, enabling the building to generate green energy and reduce dependence on the national electricity grid (PLN).

The building is designed with a plastic form to represent the identity of the Faculty of Medicine, which is closely associated with organic elements such as bacteria, cells, etc. In addition to providing identity to the building, the organic form also aims to increase the building's wind resistance. Considering the green city concept implemented in the BSB area, the organic shape, which is closer to nature, is felt to bring a new dimension and harmony to this concept. Furthermore, taking the building scale into account, the unique and attractive shape is perceived to provide a new image for the area and enhance the value of the building's functions contained within.

SAN INIGO PASTORAL & PRAYER GARDEN

SSchematicDesign gg

The San Inigo Pastoral Center is experiencing challenges due to limited space for community services and pastoral activities, as well as the community's need for a proper prayer garden in terms of capacity and accommodation The current pastoral space occupies a part of the church building, limited by a space that is often used as a passageway for vehicles heading to the back area of the church but is restricted, and for motorcycle parking, and sometimes utilized for additional seating during worship services when the church capacity exceeds its limits This impactsthelevelofpastoralservice, whichisfelttolackprivacy, affecting the inseparable comfort between community service spaces and the living quarters of the priest and supporting kitchen This necessitates reorganization, especially for the private space needed for the priest's residence, aswellasprayerservicespacesforthecommunity
