International Studies; Spanish

Braelyn is a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Miami's chapter of the Sigma Iota Rho honors society.

As an undergraduate associate for an International Studies course, she explored her major from different disciplines, including political science.

“After that, I discovered that Spanish paired perfectly,” she says. After she graduates, Braelyn plans to attend law school and is “very interested in working in immigration or the State Department.”

Exploring Your Options

Being an undeclared major in CAS allows you to explore the broadest range of academic areas that we offer. Just remember:

• Major does not always equal career. It’s more important to employers that you are building skills through your major and experiences outside the classroom than what your degree says you majored in.

HOW TO FIND YOUR MAJOR

• Enroll in exploratory courses in a variety of fields to see what catches your interest

• You don’t need to have everything figured out. It’s okay if you come in not knowing what you want to major in or do after college, or if you change your major. This is your time to explore!

• There are many ways to explore your interests while still fulfilling requirements. Work with your advisor to find ways to build these major and minor interests into your schedule.

• Many CAS programs are flexible. If you’d like to add another major, co-major, or minor to your academic pathway, just ask.

• Be open minded. You may not think you want to take a particular requirement but end up loving it — and even gain a valuable skill. Miami and CAS requirements are specifically built to do exactly this and help you build the skills you need to be successful.

• Meet with your CAS academic advisor (146 Upham Hall) and departmental advisors in your interest areas

• Take a specially tailored course, UNV 101: I Am Miami or EDL 100: Career Development and the College Student

• Visit Miami's Center for Career Exploration and Success (45 Armstrong Student Center)

• Check out online resources like Miami's Program Finder and/ or General Bulletin to discover majors that spark your interest
