Taking on three majors and three minors, Lauren builds their own interdisciplinary track to graduation. They have always had an affinity for reptiles, museum studies, preservation methods, and environmental science, which Lauren says they pull together in their Individualized Studies major “because I didn't see any reason not to study all of the things I love.” Lauren has also stacked their resume with experiences in several areas of museum management as a volunteer at Miami’s Hefner Museum of Natural History.

Being an undeclared major in CAS allows you to explore the broadest range of academic areas that we offer. Just remember:
• Major does not always equal career. It’s more important to employers that you are building skills through your major and experiences outside the classroom than what your degree says you majored in.
• Enroll in exploratory courses in a variety of fields to see what catches your interest

• You don’t need to have everything figured out. It’s okay if you come in not knowing what you want to major in or do after college, or if you change your major. This is your time to explore!
• There are many ways to explore your interests while still fulfilling requirements. Work with your advisor to find ways to build these major and minor interests into your schedule.
• Many CAS programs are flexible. If you’d like to add another major, co-major, or minor to your academic pathway, just ask.
• Be open minded. You may not think you want to take a particular requirement but end up loving it — and even gain a valuable skill. Miami and CAS requirements are specifically built to do exactly this and help you build the skills you need to be successful.
