Come join the fun as we embark on a creative, collaborative and colorful reading adventure this summer! Kids, ages 4 and older, are invited to participate in this annual program, which is designed to encourage children to have fun at the Library while maintaininganddevelopingtheirreadingskillsoverthesummer months.
From storytelling to live shows to live animals, this year’s presentations, storytimes, and art classes, inspire children to COLOR OUR WORLD. This theme celebrates art and creativity, encouraging readers of all ages to explore the vibrant ways art enriches our lives.

“Meet the Illustrators” Art Classes
For ages 7 to 11

Come join Ms. Holsing at the Library for an exciting journey into the world of picture book illustration! Discover the techniques and mediums used by renowned illustrators and explore your own creativity. Each class requires registration and a $5 non-refundable materials fee per session.



ERIC CARLE
Tuesday, June 10: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Eric Carle's innovative approach to illustration has left a lasting legacy in children's literature. Come learn the vibrant and textured art style of painted tissue paper collage and create your very own under the sea work of art.
MO WILLEMS
Tuesday, June 17: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Mo Willems employs a minimalist and expressive style in his illustrations, using hand-drawn cartoon sketches. Come create a cartoon and learn Willem’s approach to picture book illustration.
DAVID ROBERTS
Tuesday, June 24: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
David Roberts' captivating illustrations beautifully align with the Questioneers' themes of creativity and problem solving. Learn to draw in the style with detailed lines, exciting layouts, and bold colors using pencils, pens, and watercolors.




TOMIE DEPAOLA
Tuesday, July 1: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
DePaola's illustrative work reflects elements of preRenaissance Italian art and folk art, with a focus on storytelling and decorative details. Create soft vivid illustrations with watercolor paint, pastels, and markers.
LEO LIONNI
Tuesday, July 8: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Lionni’s books for children demonstrate a consistent aesthetic of elegant design and draftsmanship. Come learn and create this illustrative art technique experimenting with paper collage and colored pencil.
JON J. MUTH
Tuesday, July 15: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Jon J. Muth is an American writer and illustrator known for his work in children's books, graphic novels, and comic books. Learn and create in this expressive watercolor illustration style


PETER REYNOLDS
Tuesday, July 22: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Peter Reynolds is known for his minimalist yet expressive illustration style. Dive into this art technique of loose, freehand lines and watercolor washes and let your imagination take the lead.
EZRA JACK KEATS
Tuesday, July 29: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Ezra Jack Keats introduced a groundbreaking illustrative style during his time, blending collage and paint to create vibrant, textured visuals. Create a colorful unique collage with layered materials.

WILD ANIMAL WORLD SHOW!
Thursday, June 12: 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Wild Animal World is a wildlife rescue sanctuary in South Florida. Lemurs, wildcats, snakes, porcupines, foxes, honey bears, owls and lots more furry, scaly, and feathery friends make up their wild crew! Combining live exotic animals with education and exceptional trainers, WAW is an amazing, diverse, hands-on show!

THE POWER OF PLASMA!
Wednesday, June 18: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Join us for an out of this world exploration into the fourth state of matter, plasma! Explore the role magnetism and electricity play in our universe through experiments conducted with the plasma globe. Then discover spectroscopy and learn how it helps explain the colors we see in the world.

LIVE MUSICAL STORYTIME!

Come join this delightful musical adventure as we find out how Duncan creates a colorful solution to THE DAY THE CRAYONS QUIT! With the perfect blend of storytelling and music, kids and adults alike will enjoy the show.

Puppet Theatre All Ages Held the first Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm. Children listen to a story and watch a LIVE puppet show.

Read with Major Troy and the Miami Shores Police Department Held the first Thursday of the month from 3:30pm-5:00pm Ages 4-8 Sign up for a 15-minute reading session with a MSPD Police Sergeant and Major Troy, the station dog!
Saturday Storytime Ages 3 and up Heldthethird Saturdayofthemonthat 10:30am. Children listen to great books and make a craft.
Frost Museum STEM Classes Kids in grades K-5 Held the second Thursday of every month from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. Kids interact with live animals, become engineers, learn coding and more!
Village Kids Book Club Ages 7-11 Held the third Thursday of every month from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. Children discuss great books – with a snack! Participants receive a copy of the current month’s book selection, subject to availability.
Tweens and Teens at Brockway Ages 11-17 Movie nights, free MOCA art classes, study groups and more are held throughout the year. Opportunities for service hours. Call or visit the Library to join!
