The constant evolution of technology poses a threat to humankind AI sites like CHAT GPT are on the rise These websites enable computer-generated essays, stories, poems, etc when you type a keyword As they creep their way into a learner’s mind, like an angel in disguise, corrupting the mind until rotten, consequently, the real heroes are forgotten We cannot deny its use and ability to be swift in giving answers but these sites cannot teach us values in life, values that only teachers can teach us

Since the pandemic started, students were exposed to a wide range of AI sites producing answers for them, losing their respect for their teachers, thinking that they do not need to attend online classes

AIVSTEACHERS

because they have these sites with them This, then, resulted in students coming back to the face-to-face setup in school –unready, leaving teachers with problems to solve; problems such as poor reading proficiency, pronunciation, and grammar difficulties, challenges in solving simple mathematical equations, and wayward students to teach

In a larger scale, if students continue to rely on AI, it can result to underemployment, poor emotional intelligence , and difficulty in communicating ideas

One factor that makes teachers better than AI is they have judgment and emotional capabilities Can AI teach you the most important things in life such as respect, honesty, compassion, hard work, kindness, sharing, and cooperation?

Secretary Sara Duterte introduced MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa to chart the new course for the organization and stakeholders in addressing issues with basic education This announcement marks a positive step forward in addressing the education system's challenges in the Philippines

MATATAG: A Potential Route to

The MATATAG agenda places a strong emphasis on several critical areas, including curriculum reform, school facility improvement, and teacher development

You must not forget that a human being cannot live only with intelligence, you need to have values, as intelligence is a value in life that can only be achieved if you have the values stated above, values that only teachers can teach, and not AI, an emotion-deprived device

Learning is a process, and none of the steps can be skipped Each of these processes is important for retaining memory and gaining better comprehension, knowledge, and critical thinking in everyday life AI intelligence can do you a favor when in need of fast answers, but if you want to acquire a new skill or learn something, they cannot do that favor for you, as they do not have the value of being patient for that

in delivering high-quality education The objective is to guarantee that teachers acquire the abilities and knowledge required to successfully deliver the curriculum and give students a strong foundation for their future education This will result to graduates who are capable and well-rounded, helping to raise the standard of education in the nation

Only teachers can spend hours to help a student learn something You are not learning with AI, because you only get the answers, not the explanation for them

We can agree that AI can be a big help to students It can make your work faster, with just one click, but this does not change the fact that you improve more as a person when you are learning from another human being AI is meant for assistance, not for the replacement of teachers Let us not rip the cape of our modern-day heroes, for they are the only ones who can teach us values and intelligence at the same time - Keira Gravamen

and conducive for learning This includes creating new classrooms and laboratories, renovating and repairing deteriorated school structures, and installing essential utilities like power, clean drinking water, and toilets For students to succeed academically, this will help establish a more encouraging and friendly learning atmosphere

Improving

Basic Education in the Philippines

The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) announced its new agenda to resolve basic education woes on January 30, 2023 Vice President and DepEd

These key categories have been noted as the main contributors to the difficulties the Philippine basic education system is currently experiencing DepEd is tackling these problems comprehensively and holistically, which is admirable and desperately needed

One of the MATATAG agenda focusing on teacher development and training is particularly significant DepEd has prioritized teachers' training and development because it recognizes the critical role teachers play

Secondly, curriculum reform is also important To better meet the demands of the twenty-first century, DepEd is proposing to update the current curriculum Giving them the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a global job market that is becoming more competitive will help students get ready for a rapidly changing world The new curriculum will also place more emphasis, on critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills that are crucial for success in the modern world Another key component of the MATATAG agenda is the upgrading of educational facilities DepEd is dedicated to providing students with a setting that is safe, comfortable,

In conclusion, DepEd's MATATAG program is an admirable and considered necessary effort to address the problems with basic education in the Philippines The emphasis on curriculum reform, school facility upgrades, and teacher development is a positive move in the right direction for raising the standard of education in the nation We expect that by putting this agenda into action, our educational system will become more effective and efficient, benefiting both teachers and students

Adolescence is the stage when one is prone to developing social anxiety and depression Research says that among Filipino children ages 5 to 15, 10% to 15% are affected by mental health problems Several reasons why teens develop such are the following: trauma, their environment (at home or in school), low self-esteem, and being a victim of grave crimes (such as sexual harassment, child abuse, etc ) As these continue to happen, the scars on their hearts deepen, and depression and anxiety may lead to death

Stress is something that we cannot erase in life, and what matters is how we deal with it There are a lot of ways to cope with stress and anxiety, and it is important to choose the right way and avoid unhealthy coping skills or habits So, what are ways to deal with your situation? A situation so hard, you feel like you have reached rock bottom

History is a part of one ' s identity It shows the way of living of our ancestors The Philippines’ history is truly what makes the country more resplendent However, with the trends and technologies taking over the lives of many, it is easy to forget about our own identity which is reflected in our history Nonetheless, there are still people such as filmmakers who deeply care, which is why they create historical films and series One of those is Maria Clara at Ibarra which no doubt captures the most important part of our history and how we Filipinos stood our ground

Maria Clara at Ibarra (also known as MCI) is a fantasy series based on the novel ‘Noli Me Tangere ’ A Filipino writer and activist, José Rizal published Noli Me Tangere using Latin and Spanish languages during the Spanish colonial period The book from which MCI was inspired is a book that

was created for a peaceful uprising and to convey what Filipinos were going through during the Spanish occupation It shows how oblivious Filipinos were for not knowing who the true enemies are and instead they fought against their countrymen The series aids people to remember where they came from by reenacting what happened during that time, helping millions connect with their nationalism in the process

A work of art, perfected by time, Maria Clara at Ibarra was made! It took two years to prepare the show which probably explains why it is loved by many The show is well thought out and magnificently written It was released on the 3rd of October, 2022 The writer, headed by Suzette Doctolero, hired historians, language coaches, and consultants so they could deliver an accurate show MCI is proof of how dedicated the writers are to providing their audience with a spectacular yet educational show, which paves the way for viewers to be familiar with Jose Rizal's well-known book, ‘Noli Me Tangere ’ Maria Clara at Ibarra portrays the individuality of Filipinos by showing what their ancestors had to go through for freedom It provides learning most entertainingly

1) Talk with someone, talk to yourself, meditate, or if you can, seek help from friends and family - It is said that having someone to talk with during a hard time in life helps alleviate painful emotions from the mind

2) Listen to music - Jamming to your favorite music clears your mind, swatting away dark thoughts It can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory

3) Grab a hobby - Doing this will make you understand yourself more, and distract you from reality in the process

4) Reconnect with nature - Just watching beautiful sceneries will give you a serene feeling, perfect for down times

5) Manage your time - Managing your time will help increase your focus, and improve productivity thus capturing bigger opportunities that might motivate you in life

It is up to you which one you would feel most comfortable in, however always remind yourself every day that life is a challenge and you are here to overcome those obstacles Seeing a dark fog covering that road you want to take for that dream of yours, is only temporary, there is a tremendous amount of light in you that will shine through that dark fog

Every character, the way they move, speak, and think was based on historical facts For instance, Maria Clara is described as a kindhearted, pure, and a God-fearing woman These traits are said to be what Filipinas should be

Each character represents the culture and beliefs of Filipinos during the Spanish era Klay, the main character, is a woman of today's generation She is the persona who traveled back in time, showing the difference between today and the past She sets an example not just to the youth but to everyone, that men and women are equal, providing a mindset that disregards one ' s gender

As the story of Noli Me Tangere slowly comes to an end, the story of El Filibusterismo begins The story in which pain and hardships

changed each character Instead of focusing on the tragedy, writers of the MCI inserted romance which ultimately saves the story

They showed the audience a multiverse reality wherein the characters had their happily ever after

Because the show was adored by many, Netflix adapted the series and is set to premiere on April 14, 2023 MCI won as the Most Outstanding Teleserye at the 5th Gawad Lasallianeta, and was also recognized internationally and shortlisted for New York Festivals TV & Film Awards MCI is just one of the shows that nurtures one ' s knowledge about history, and serves as a time machine that takes Filipinos to a journey in the time when our nationalism was at its peak

Tales of the Unknown

For every word, for every sentence, for every page, for every book, one ' s mind is hooked; swayed by the fantasies it brings, fulfilled by the knowledge it gives, satisfied by the information it offers Unfortunately, not all of us can appreciate the magnificent relief that books bring

According to the National Literacy Trust, who released a study detailing findings from its annual literacy survey, 6 out of 10 children said that they enjoy reading quite a lot

Scanning books and browsing the web is indeed beneficial for all of us, adults, teenagers, and kids alike Furthermore, it offers people ideas and gives them the opportunity to acquire more knowledge about a certain subject or research topic It gives them intellectual capabilities that they will share to people, and will eventually help the people who are not proficient in reading and writing, to improve the world's literacy One’s pen, one ’ s paper, one ’ s book, can help one ’ s dream to be fulfilled

To pursue this aspiration, the newly renovated Manila High School Library is now open for everyone It is primarily maintained

by the school librarian, Mrs. Joy J. Aluarte, who is also an ESP teacher She is assisted by the Book Lovers Club President, Jessabelle Mosquito from 10Amity The library is accessible for school administrators, teachers, students, and visitors from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM It comes with a WIFI connection for the readers to access learning resources online like E-books that will help nurture their knowledge, and enrich their research skills Students are also welcome to do their assignments in the library when they have free time In addition to the features enumerated, the library has space for offline gaming: students' nook, a recreational area where board games such as chess and snake & ladders are kept It aims to enhance one ' s strategy and tactics

Furthermore, the athenaeum is also open for creativity in arts and music It has an activity called "Art Attack", where students, teachers, and staff can express their feelings through lines, shapes, and figures through art Friday is the last day of an exhausting week, want to wind up a little bit?

The MHS Library got your back! On Fridays, piano lessons are available and it is particularly handled by Patricia Ann Carpio who is an SSG Officer, willing to share her talent in playing musical instruments A teacher's lounge is also located within the library where teachers can conduct meetings, LAC sessions, and training In order to experience all the features democratically, stakeholders especially students have to remember the following rules as they visit the learning center: (1) all students entering the library must be in proper decorum and should wear their school uniform while inside the library; (2) silence and cleanliness must be observed at all times; (3) magazines and newspapers are to be read-only inside the library; (4) push back the chairs quietly under the table before leaving; (5) use of cellphones, calling or accepting calls and playing games inside the library is strictly prohibited It must be turned off or set in silent mode so as not to disturb other library users; (6) library users should observe courtesy at all

times, any act of discourtesy towards librarians will be duly noted for appropriate action; (7) mutilating, defacing, tearing and vandalizing of books and other materials and property of the library is strictly prohibited and is punishable Anyone guilty of such an act will be subjected to disciplinary action; (8) Lastly, all materials, resources, facilities, and utilities of the library should be used with proper care

Not only does the library help us to acquire new knowledge, but it also trains us to practice good manners through the said rules

This improved library of MHS is one of the many things that leads us to the unknown stories we are seeking Who knows? Maybe one of the books in the said library contains the answers to the mysteries that you are trying to solve Read, read, and read, then understand With that, you are not only learning, but you are also improving yourself as a person, simultaneously, you are solving the "unknown tales" that you are seeking, and most importantly, you are adding up to people who can spark improvement in their own land You could be one of the people who can help those who are having a hard time in reading and writing You'll never know, you just have to try

Passionate Pursuits of a Dreamer Passionate of

As the stardust danced in your eyes, I saw a dreamer who wished to shine like a star, To be admired like the moon on a midnight sky

The earth continues to revolve around the solar system, Just like how you continue to revolve in your own world daydreaming, Anticipating what will happen next on behalf of your being For nothing stays the same, such as how your passion fades,

But then coming back with a different purpose, with a discrete meaning Life really has no meaning, We just tried to begin one by dreaming, I hope to be one with my dream yet in the process of doing Something came to my thinking

Morpheus, hear my plea! Morpheus, hear my plea!

As I take another step in the future, The feeling of epiphany hits my core I have been deprived of freedom, because of the gender I was born

In my world, my clothes mean an invitation A piece of cloth, a danger could lead on It was always the 'what are you wearing,’ instead of 'it's not your fault ’

In my world, it was I who needs constant teaching, so that men would not be distracted It was I, whom they said needed to be educated Oh, how I wish I could be anywhere but here.

I’ll close my eyes fully aware Creating paracosm wherein all is fair If this world doesn’t care, I will build a world we can share Liberation of women suffering everywhere

With the hopes that millions of lives can be spared I am a woman, hear my plea!

My purpose is not just to bore a child or be someone ' s punching bag I want to be free, not just in my dream but also in reality

When will you see this, this is a problem we can’t flee Lots are drowning in fear that is as deep as the sea I dream that someday my dreams won't remain as a dream This world, may the future generations redeem

So that I won't hear another scream I believe that we could work on that as a team May this serve as a reminder that I am more than my gender You’ll see that my ability is extraordinary

If we can dream freely then why does achieving it requires so much rhythm?

Can I say now that we can dream freely

Yet not all those might be achieved by just one sitting For in this world of endless possibility I can be anything I want to be,

So I'll keep on dreaming until my dream

Can be brighter than the moon and stars above me, I’ll keep on pursuing it even if it felt draining I will keep on striving

You’ll know that my strength can never be measured by length You’ll hear that I am a woman who conquers all

Feathers Feathers

Dreams and aspirations, Fueled by passion and fire, Guiding us through life, Higher and higher

We chase our dreams, With hearts full of desire, Never giving up, No matter how hard we might tire

For our dreams are the driving force, That keeps us moving ahead, They give us purpose and meaning, And keep our sprits fed

So let us embrace our dreams, And let our passions take flight, For with hard word and and determination, We will surely reach new heights

Never Stop Dreaming Never Stop Dreaming

Never stop dreaming

Without dreams, life has no meaning

It won’t be as much as exciting, If you aren’t thriving for something

Never stop dreaming

Despite failing, no one is stopping Over and over, people kept standing. The had their heads up and still aspiring

As long as you ’ re still breathing, And the earth is still revolving, It’s never too late to start wishing, Or even stop dreaming

If My Dream is You Dream

Would the world be mad

If my dream is you?

To be with you forever It's a dream come true

If my dream is you Would that affect me too? Affect my attitude and virtue? Affect the things I do?

If my dream is you Would that be out of the blue? Would that be shocking for you? I still don’t have a clue

Stranded

There is no turning back From the mess and the crack Seems like a twisted path That won’t leave you unscathed

Each scar tells a tale Of one who lost her trail To different tides, she sails Hoping she won’t land another vale

Once she was a dreamer

A victor, a winner Now she got nothing figured In this world full of measures

Will she ever find her way Or continue to be astray The answer lies ahead When all is done and said

Observe, let things be let things be

As I step into my last year in junior high, I have spent my time by myself mostly I can't really avoid to overhear conversations of my fellow students as they passed by From time to time I hear students arguing Students talking about their crushes, may it be their classmates, from other sections of the same grade level or someone completely from other grade level usually a year higher or lower Students hanging out after school Students going to convenience store after class hours, be it the morning shift or afternoon shift students It's always a go-to spot together with Baluarte

It's fun just watching students do their thing, having their own life living it. Having their own things Participating in sports practices

The The Freedom of Dreaming Freedom of

“You can dream about anything you want; you can pursue your passion or not, but at the end of the day it’s you who’ll get to decide if you’ll endure the hardship of getting it or giving up and settling for something easier, we all have the rights to dream and be passionate about something, but it’s up to us if we’ll chase it ”

Hearing our teacher’s words in front, my attention then shifted to my thoughts

What if giving up your passion is the best option for yourself and for the people around you? What if thisdream of yours will make you happy, however it will not help your family who depends on you because you ’ re their only “hope” to lift them out of poverty, and choosing your dream is too expensive and unreachable in yourcurrent situation?

“Isn’t the best option for this is to be practical than choosing your passion?” I blurted out loud unconsciously for my teacher to hear what I was thinking

My eyes then widened after realizing what I just did, but before I can even say my apologies, she smiled at me

“You’re correct there kid, but as I’ve said, it’s you who’ll get to decide”, she answered

“Many might disagree and say, ‘You only live once so follow your dreams and do your passion!’, but even I, don't believe in that phrase, because for me we don’t live once, we live every day, we wake up every morning andwelcome a new beginning in our lives so even if you choose to be practical than chasing your dreams, it’scompletely fine and reasonable, also you can still chase your dreams afterwards anyway ”

She then walked towards me before stating, “It’s your life so it is up to you how you ’ re going to manage it, sodon’t let people control what you want, as well as who you are, just keep in mind to do it wisely and live a lifeworth living, a life that isn’t just about needing to escape from your life ”

After that our class ended, her words to me stayed until I get home And for the first time in my life, I thought of

what I really desired for myself, and not for the people around me

What our teacher said made me realize that there’s freedom in dreaming, I can be what I want to be, I candream about anything, small or big, know my passion or not, it will always be up to me if I’ll make it come true orjust make another dream that is easier for me to reach Everyone is different, just like how we all differently perceive dreaming, we all have our own dream, our ownpassion that we want to chase

Seeing students live their life somehow to me is fulfilling Go out there! Do the things you haven't done or got the chance to do so in the past two years

To do what you want to do and to achieve what you want to be Do things that feels right may it be not to others or things that pleasure even just you but consequences are ones that everyone mustn't forget

Freedom comes with consequences, just like how chasing your dream comes with hardship, you’ll have the freedom of continuing it and succeeding, or giving up not knowing what will happen since you never tried

Digital Twins: Replicating the World of Tomorrow

It contains the performances of both production and product The digital twin is an input and output process where you input the data or source and let it present you with a virtual one, at the input stage you can see the status of the model

improve performance The said product can develop improvements by analyzing customization models and ensuring product quality through performance testing in real time

Imagine a world where everything is a replica of another, a world where in just a click, in just a few seconds, a copy of a product emerges This is made possible by an invention proposed and introduced by Michael Grieves in the year 2002 called, "Digital Twins" Will this invention prove to be useful?

When we say “digital”, we first think about a representation of the real world copied into a “high tech” one A Digital Twin uses real data to predict how the product or process will perform.

Robotic Surgeon: Treat Strokes with Joysticks

With a joystick and a monitor, is surgery possible? Visualize yourself being in a surgery room, or a rural area, with absolutely no doctors in sight, and you just fall down with stroke from the harsh sun You start losing hope of seeing another day

What if I tell you that surgery can be performed even if doctors are in another hospital or miles away? Yes, that is now possible with the newly invented, Joystick-operated robot, surgeons can treat stroke remotely

Introduced on the April 2022 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers, this joystick-operated robot allows an easier and safer way of performing surgery on stroke or aneurysm patients Patients who experience a stroke have a “Golden Hour” which is the critical period after stroke onset Patients need immediate help to minimize damage to the brain

However, this is not possible for people living in remote areas as they do not have access to experienced doctors to perform manual wire endovascular surgery as this takes years for a surgeon to master That is why the MIT Team envisions their invention being installed in rural hospitals and remotely controlled in larger medical facilities So how does this modified joystick work? Can it possibly save the lives of many?

There are many benefits of digital twin depending on when and where they are going to be used For example, by using digital twins to monitor existing products, we will be able to further improve this product for the benefit of the people

Digital twins can also be used for prototypes ahead of manufacture, reducing product defects and shortening time to market this prevents labor-intensive work

Other common benefits include increased availability through monitoring and simulation to

Many are wondering if they could use this technology for business They can, however, concern from most business owners interested in this technology is the risk of misrepresenting the object or system they want to replicate which can cause disruptions and damage to a factory and the workers, leaving a mess to clean up The fruits of science and technology live side by side with us into making our world better Even so, we should always remember that “Technology is both a tool for helping humans and destroying them This is the paradox of our times,” as said by Frank Herbert, author of Dune

The Second-Generation of The World's Most Advanced Humanoid Robot - Ameca is Here To Say Hello

Human-kind evolution when it comes to technology has truly come far, from creating bulky telephones and televisions to nowmaking a robot with human-like features One of the robots invented today is named Ameca, and was inspired by many robotbased films of Hollywood and Bollywood production It is indeed great to see such innovations come to life, however, can robots like Ameca change our world, to be better? Or is it the other way around?

‘Engineered Arts’ is the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of humanoid entertainment robots and is the face behind the production of ‘Ameca’, the “World's Most Advanced Human Shaped Robot representing the forefront of human-robotic technology” according to CES 2022 It has been specifically designed as a medium for the development of future robotic technologies and to perfect robot-to-human interaction The Engineered Arts thought through developing Ameca in 2005 and was planning how she would help future generations Throughout the years of testing and updating Ameca’s function, she is now ready for public entertainment

The researchers showed through a “phantom”, a transparent model with vessels replicating the complex arteries of the brain With just an hour of training, selected neurosurgeons were able to remotely navigate a wire through a giant maze of vessels to reach the target locations which have the blood clot, to remove it and get the blood flowing naturally again By tilting the joystick, the surgeons can control where the wire goes through a magnetic responsive tip, and buttons on the mouse control a set of motorized linear drives, which advance and retract the wire to make it move forward and back The team tested the robotic system in MGH’s Catheter Lab an operating room with standard medical imaging equipment used in endovascular procedures There, they tested the invention and saw how effective it was It can easily pass through hard-to-reach areas in the model, vessels, and sharp turns to reach regions of clots Once they retract the wire, the blood clot is successfully removed The primary purpose of the magnetic guidewire

is to get to the target location quickly and safely so that standard devices like microcatheters can be used to deliver therapeutics,” Kim says He also said that their system is like a pathfinder and it shows This invention does not only help patients but also surgeons who are highly exposed to radiation from X-ray imaging That is why having the surgeons in another room, using a joystick and a monitor to perform surgery would be highly beneficial This Telerobotic Neurovascular with Magnetic Manipulation proved once again the significance of science and technology in our daily lives, especially to our health

Given that stroke is one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in our world, having this invention made by the MIT Engineers would surely lessen doctor’s fatigue and stroke patient's death The impact of this invention on global health will be life-changing The real question is, when will we see a surgeon treating stroke with joysticks in hand here in the Philippines?

Ameca is able to emulate human expressions quite well and answer all questions articulately She was particularly designed to entertain people in any way she can She can blink, cry, and scrunch her nose just like humans do Ameca is a cloud-connected platform that multiplies the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with an artificial body where AI and machine learning systems can be tested and developed alongside Engineering Art’s powerful tritium robot operating system Continuous improvement and production of Ameca can help people with disabilities, old people left in daycares, and more by entertaining them, and helping them daily Faster production of goods may also be achieved by robots working in factories, as they only need to be charged and they will follow all orders of owners, as they are mindcontrolled

While some people thought Ameca was fantastic, others thought it was alarming and expressed concern that it may lead to a cyber revolt and robot uprising like we ' ve seen in the movies Furthermore, Elon Musk has recently expressed concern about the risk of AI in terms of how human we want our robotic counterparts to be Some of us like Musk may be concerned about what our future will look like when the intellect is combined with a flawless human appearance Robots can pose a threat to us, lack of jobs and opportunities, and an unhealthy lifestyle may await us That is why we should not let technology take over our lives

Bugayong is a proud Arnisador and has been practicing the martial art for a while now His interest in Arnis started when he was invited by a friend to practice it Initially, he found it challenging and thought that it is a sport which lacked safety measures, but his passion for Arnis kept him going

"I thought Arnis was just about sparring, but as I learned more about it, I realized that it's much more than that It's about discipline, respect, and focus,"

Bugayong shared

During the tournament, Bugayong’s first round was intense as he faced off against an opponent from Abad Santos After a tough fight, he made an impressive comeback and scored points by hitting his opponent's chest and legs, bringing the score to 3-5

Although he lost his second round to an opponent, he didn't let this defeat stop him He approached the tournament with a sportsmanlike attitude and continued to do his best, ultimately securing a third-place finish

Bugayong found the tournament experience both fun and exciting, especially in bonding with his teammates He was also proud of his achievements and medals and learned that the key to success is to never settle for less

"Being an Arnisador is fun because you bond with your teammates, and it's a mixture of excitement and nervousness that you will experience once you play in the tournament," Bugayong expressed. He hopes that more people will learn to play Arnis, as it is the martial art of the Philippines and represents the country's rich culture His advice to those who want to pursue their passion is to be humble and to never give up on their dreams
