Cannaregio is a lovely quiet residential area of Venice, less crowded than the main tourist sights but full of in teresting architecture and history. running to their lessons. Also, in the heart of this “ses tiere” was created by the Serenissima in 1516 the first Jewish ghetto in Europe. The ghetto was connected to the rest of the city by bridges with gates, which were clo sed at sunset. You will learn how they used to live, pray and work. Their life was totally different from any other Jews at that time, and it went on like this up until 1797, when the ghetto gates were demolished by the Napoleonic Army. Let us introduce you to the Battiloro, a famous family of goldsmiths, who for almost a hundred years, have been responsible for ador ning the gondola trappings with gold leaf. Mario Berta Battiloro, a Venetian family, the last artisan company of gold beaters left in Europe, keeper of the art of working gold in thin sheets, an ancient profession that came to Venice from Byzantium around the year 1000.
In the workshop opened for the first time in 1926, 24 carat gold ingots have been transformed into very thin leaves for four generations for different areas of application.
Artistic decorations such as mosaic, glass, icono graphy, marble, plexiglass, wood, shells etc.; as a 24 kt food decoration in leaves and flakes, to conclude with the production of a cosmetic line.
