Dennis and I also welcome you to visit the ranch anytime prior to the sale day to evaluate the bull offering and the cowherd that produced it, to study in detail, to select for your program. The future of our business looks promising. Fall 2023 brought the highest feeder calf prices, it was rewarding to see our customers reap good returns on their genetic investments they’ve made over the years. We feel a strong maternal factory at our level is where the beef industry starts. Dennis began YCR in 1997 – 27 years ago. He has focused on the maternal consistency in selecting for the herd. We emphasis good foot traits, udder quality, fertility and a weaned large calf every year without a-lot of extra care. We are lucky and have made it through another dry moisture year and remain optimistic on the hay and pasture season coming up. To date, Jan 29th, bull picture day, we have had an exceptional good calving season, 2/3 complete with healthy calves and good moms. A little 40 below, a little 15 above. Lots of night checks, mud and straw shredded. The bulls were weaned August 15th due to drought. They were never pushed and are grown out to be fertile & problem free. Our entire herd has been Parent Verified since 2008, we are one of the few herds in Canada that have DNA proven breed purity. We truly appreciate your consideration for your next bull purchase. HERD HEALTH MANAGEMENT We provide the best care possible to our herd working closely with the Fort Macleod Vet Clinic; Dr. Todd Baker, Dr. Claudia Schlueter, and Alycia Webster; can’t ask for better service. We follow a strict vaccination protocol. Our calves are given MuSE and Vit ADE and Enforce at birth. Replacement heifers receive there 1st shot of Pyramid FP5 VL5 Booster in February prior to breeding. In June at tattoo time our calves are given Long-Range, Pyramid FP5 with Presponse, Fermicon 7/Somnugen and DNA Tissue samples are taken also. All our cows at this time also receive Cylence along with the Herd Sires. At preg check time in August; our cows receive a Tasvax-8 way and Express FP5-VL5. Calves all receive Pyramid FP5 with Presponse (booster) and a 8-way. We also use Quiet Wean’s at this time and remove them in 7 days at weaning time. All our cows are vaccinated for scours and are also given Boss pour on for lice. We believe it’s important for our customers be informed of our strict herd management. All bulls will have received Fusaguard 1st shot and booster prior to sale day. We have also used Boss Feeds (Cattle Active ) lick tubs in the spring during calving and have seen a real difference in health of our calves and cows at this stressful time. Bulls are started on Bullseye pellets at weaning and gradually stepped up over time as they grow. At all times our bulls have access to Free choice hay and we really see a difference on how our bulls maintain condition after they leave our place and are working at your ranch.

We purchased 9H from Alisha Minchau at Shiloh Cattle. The gavel went down and we had the high selling bull in 2021 at $15,000. We admired Heavily Armed standing on an awesome foot and performance phenotype. Heavily Armed with his unbelievable personality and true breeding performer has become a true standout Herd sire at Yarrow Creek. We now have females from Heavily Armed calved out and we are very happy with there udders and foot structure. Heavily Armed is a true performance sire with all the calves WW index 105 and YW index of 109. Unfortunately, we had to put HA down due to an injury.

We went looking for a new AI sire to use on our heifers and 2 yr olds and after seeing progeny we knew we had to use Mossy Oak. Truly admired his sire John Wick and all of his progeny and being a Reckoning son we knew the consistency was there. Mossy Oak is also a outcross pedigree for us with Reckoning and Rust in the pedigree. The really neat thing about Mossy Oak is he not only a calving ease specialist but he is in the TOP 1% for WW and TOP 1% for YW. He calved like a dream with exceptional consistency and the calves up and took off and were the best looking calves in the pen. We are very happy with the progeny we have for you to select from in 2024.

We start of the candidates with a new sire group from Red Six Mile Mossy Oak 175h. Lancaster weaned off at 640 lbs in August 15. He ranks in the top 20% for WW and top 10%for YW, good growth. On the maternal dam side a very nice Unanimous daughter in our treasured Oasis lineup of cows; which are thick, good uddered and exceptional feet. All going back to TR Escalade from Thistle Ridge and he was definitely a foot, and udder improver.

17L was our 2nd highest weaning calf at 680 lbs just to prove the Crackerjack sons are lighter birthweight bulls with a growth. He is my 2nd top gaining bull at this time with a 4.2 lbs/day gain. Lacombe 17L is in the top 9 % for BW. This combination of Rickards Red females; whom are known for there depth, square hip and good feet, just plain works on this combination. 17L has a great hip also and a great personality.

From DNA this guy ended up being a Crackerjack son. 21L weaned OK but took his time in deciding to put on lbs but after January 1, his weight gain was am impressive 6.5 lbs/day. I call him Oakey for that, He is a smaller framed bull with a lot of growth. His dam is absolutely beautiful Head Games daughter who has turned quickly into one of my favorite up and coming stars and now you can see why; NOTE: this is only her first calf and she did a fabulous job while breeding back on time for 2024 and I can’t ask much more from her.

This is one of my favorites in the bull pen this year. He was the No. 1 weaning weight bull in the Red division at 702 lbs at August 15th; can’t imagine what he would have weighed if we would have waited until September to wean. A growth bull from our Lakota line stemming again from the TR Oasis sired group of cows which have just been a standout. He was gaining over 4 lbs/day at catalogue time. Really nice combination here sire and dam side.

Take advantage of this one; Long Arm is our LAST U2 Mission 61W calf, I kind of wished it would have been a female as they are the best all round cows I have ever had with perfect udders, feet, and built to last. When you see this guy in the pen he always catches your eye; he is just a looker. If you want to retain females this is the bull to buy. Mission X Crackerjack is as good as it gets. The dam goes back to the Lauron Blackbird 94F calf I bought out of the Chinook sale, and Laurie still says she wishes she didn’t sell that one.

Not only was Long Shot 43L appropriately named as he calved on our cutoff date for A.I. calves but he was worth the wait. What I like about this fella is “consistency”. With the sire Coming in Hot having 367 progeny and the grandsire Redemption having 726 progeny you can be assured this bull will get it done for you. The dam Blackbird 15102C is an Elite/Premier Dam at Yarrow Creek, we sold a female at Red Roundup from this very dam going to the Kaufman’s at South View Ranch in SK. This dam is sill in production at Yarrow Creek with 8 calves to her record with a 103 WW ratio and a 109 YW ratio, all with bull calves avg 85 lbs and heifer calves avg 73 lbs. This guy is appropriately named as the dam all Canadian 15110C was stifled before she calves but as the trooper she was she gave us one more calf. I won’t lie I was actually hoping for a heifer calf, as she was a tremendous moderate framed cow with a picture perfect udder and great feet (never touched) and built like a truck. Welcome to our 12th Annual Bull Sale! Somehow, twelve years seems like it was yesterday and a long time ago, all at the same time. As we reflect on that, we would like to thank everyone who has supported our program over these years. We appreciate your trust and we really enjoy our associations with you. We’re very excited about the bulls for the 2024 offering. A lot of the bulls are moderate birthweight bulls that can be used on heifers and cows. They performed very well given the poor pasture conditions -no creep feeding- and are ready to perform for you. We had some much-needed moisture in late January, but the bulls ended up a bit dirtier on picture day than we hoped. Take a closer look under that mud- the bulls look great, and even better in person! Our focus remains the same: sourcing and finding new genetics that will improve our cow herd and your cow herd. We try to focus on feet, maternal qualities, carcass quality and calving ease and avoid the extremes. Every year we feel like we’ve raised the bar for our herd and this year is no exception. You are all invited to come by anytime to have a look at the bull pen. Even if you’re not sure if you need a new bull this year, we enjoy the visit and an excuse to stop and eat treats. We value your time and know that there are many Bull Sales options out there, so to show our appreciation, Visitors will receive a $200 credit towards a bull they purchase at the 2024 sale. We are very thankful to our customers, neighbours and friends for your trust and confidence in our program. We strive to earn your business by providing the very best bulls possible and customer service to match.
BULL MANAGEMENT We strive to provide our herd the best possible feed ingredients and health protocols to ensure optimal health and growth throughout their lives. At birth the calves are given Enforce and Vit ADE and warm head gear if the weather is cold enough to freeze those delicate ears. When we turn out for summer pasture in late May early June, the calves are given Pyramid FPS with Presponse, Fermicon 7/Somnugen and Long Range. At this time, we also take the calves weights and hair samples for DNA. When the calves come home in the fall, we give them a booster shot of Pyramid FPS and Fermicon and give them Ivermectin or Cylence pour on. We weigh them again to get their weaning weights. We feed alfalfa silage to our herd, and start the bulls on a alfalfa silage/Timothy ration to begin. We then introduce a pellet ration from Bullseye Feeds into the ration. We slowly increase the pellet ration to 1% of body weight of the animal and eliminate the timothy from the ration. We feel this ration helps the bulls to grow into their genetic potential without pushing them to hard and burning them out and reducing their long-term breeding potential. All bulls are semen tested by the wonderful staff at Fort Macleod Vet Clinic a few weeks before sale day. At this time the bulls are given their first shot of Fusaguard for prevention of foot rot. The booster shot is given before sale day.

– TERMS & CONDITIONS – Terms of Sale: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. No release of livestock will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made. We reserve the right to withhold animals from shipment for which payments have not been received prior to departure time.
Breeding Guarantee: We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull, capable of passing a breeding soundness evaluation performed by a licensed veterinarian. In the unlikely event of any dispute, the regular terms and conditions that are standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply. Customer satisfaction is paramount to us.
Certificates of Registry: A certificate of registry will be duly transferred to the buyer by the breeder for each bull after complete and full payment has been made.
Delivery of Bulls: We will offer free delivery within 200 km. of home; after that at cost. Delivery on the yearlings will commence early April unless prior arrangements have been made with the seller.
Cattle Inspection & Identification: CCIA tags will be in all bulls. All bulls will be available for inspection prior to the sale.
Post Sale Bull Development: We will winter your yearling bull purchases free of charge until April 1, 2023. After that, feed at cost of $3/head/day will be charged. All bulls returning to the consignors’ must be insured. All bulls will be housed at buyers’ risk, the consignors will not be responsible for any type of injury while the bulls are in their care.
Fertility: All yearlings will be scrotal measured and palpated prior to the sale and all yearling purchases will be semen tested prior to delivery. All bulls will meet or exceed breed standards.
Bull Insurance: Ownership risk to the purchaser commences when the Auctioneer’s gavel falls. Livestock coverage will be available at the clerk’s desk from our appointed representative on Sale Day. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers; neither the sale staff nor the owners assume any responsibility in this manner and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of an accident or loss of property. Announcements: Any changes from information in this catalogue will be announced from the auction block. Such changes will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue and therefore buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements.
