Hello. On behalf of Lockhart Valley Simmentals, Cow Boss Simmentals, Silvertop Simmentals and Opal Cattle Co., we’d like to welcome you to our 19th annual bull sale. As you can see there’s a new name added to the list. We have the great pleasure of introducing Emily Moos, owner and operator of Opal Cattle Co. Emily is a young Angus breeder. We’ve been after Emily for years to put just even one animal in our sale. Finally last summer after touring her impressive cow herd, she agreed to consign three bulls. As you talk to Emily you can see how excited and enthusiastic, she is about the cattle industry and especially her cows. Emily is currently enrolled in Olds college. Welcome Emily. The past year in the cattle industry can be summed up in two words. “HOLY COW”! Looking back in our sale welcome from last year, I see I stated “I can foresee a very, very strong calf market this upcoming sale season.” Strong almost seems too weak of a word for the feeder market this past fall. Steers in the high $2000 and heifers in the low $2000. Commercial bred heifer sales this past fall were exceptionally strong with most sales averaging $4000 or stronger. Chad Beagle had a couple of heifers bring $6000. Just WOW! Cull market bulls are averaging a strong $4000 per bull. So, if your bull battery is getting older, injured or disinterested in breeding, now is the time
to sell those bulls and invest in some young blood. This year we’ll have 32 impressive individuals on offer. I hate how breeders always say “This is the best group we’ve ever offered for sale”. I’m not going to say that. All I’m going to say is they’re darn good. This winter has been easy on the cattle and the boys have done exceptionally well. All contributors involved in the sale focus on selling high quality bulls. We concentrate on bringing high quality yearling bulls into the commercial sector of the cattle industry. A high percentage are sold to repeat customers. Bulls are weaned within a week of one another, so all the bulls enter the pen on equal footing. We feed a TMR ration consisting of cereal silage, oats, corn, beet pulp and second cut hay. The bulls are split into two different pens. Reds/blacks in one pen and fullbloods in another. We feel this makes it easier to view the animals you’re interested in. If you have any questions please call and ask. If you want to come and view the bulls, please feel free to come and walk through the pens. The coffee is always on and we’d love to visit with you. So, we’d like to extend an invitation to you to join us on Saturday, March 2,2024 at the farm for our 19th annual bull sale. Lunch will be served around 11:30 a.m. and the sale starts at 1:00p.m. Thank you from Lockhart Valley Simmentals, Cow Boss Simmentals, Silvertop Simmentals and Opal Cattle Co.

Hannah
Hello and welcome to our 19th annual bull sale. It’s hard to believe a year has come and gone. 2023 was a very good a year for us. Commodity prices were at an all time high and feeder cattle prices right now are fantastic. We believe the future of the cattle industry looks bright. At many commercial and purebred sales this fall, Lee and I were amazed at how many young cattlemen were steadily buying and actively bidding on good quality replacement bred heifers. It was really exciting to see and made us feel optimistic about the industry as a whole. The bulls last summer did exceptionally well on momma’s milk and grass. Along with that, we had the pleasure of touring many good cattlemen and women, showing them not only the bulls, but the cow herd as a whole. Many of our boys weaned off well over a 1000lbs. The fall and winter have been very easy on the lads and their condition shows it. We have some breeder bull candidates in the pen this year. Hannah has a really good fullblood bull who could do some good. Look for LHVS 9L in the catalog. LHVS 1L is a
homo-polled red factor bull who we feel has a bright future in the Simmental industry. We dug deep into our semen tank and used 16 year old semen, from a bull we raised. LHVS Bellringer 21T. Old school for sure and a bull who was maybe ahead of the times 16 years ago. We have a couple of sons of his in the bull pen. We also have a polled Jenkins and a polled Anchor D Hefner bull calf on offer. Lots of options this year if you’re into polled cattle. The cattle industry looks fantastic for the near future. We are excited about it for sure. We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you to stop by the farm for a visit and to walk through the bull pen. The coffee is always on and the B.S is free. So is the banana bread or cookies, your choice. Please join us on Saturday March 2nd, 2024 for our 19th annual sale at the farm. We hope to see you here. Thanks Lee, Tina and Hannah Robson Lockhart Valley Simmentals

01-Jan-23
POLLED
Homozygous Polled. Where do I start with LHVS Anticipation 1L. First off let me describe his dam. She’s a chunk. Solid red with beautiful feet and an udder that should last her till she’s done producing. Easy to handle, LHVS 3F is a pleasure to be around. Now for Anticipation. Solid dark red, great hair coat, small framed, but just jammed packed full of muscle. For a homo-polled bull he’s naturally thick and easy doing. Anticipation travels freely and has all the tools in the tool box he needs for breeding. Quiet in nature, he likes his scratches and comes marching up to you, demanding your attention. His sire Wheatland Killswitch is a bull we’ve used extensively in our A.I. Program. We really like the cows he throws. They’re big time producers. It’s impossible to articulate how much we like this bull. Lockhart Valley reserves the right to collect semen from LHVS Anticipation 1L. He is already booked in to be collected after our sale. LHVS 3F for a bigger cow, she weighed 1730lbs last fall, weaned off 62% of her body weight. That means anticipation weighed 1080lbs at weaning. Wow! Anticipation is a cow bull. LHVS OSCAR 4L 01-Jan-23
POLLED
This young polled bull is Lee’s favorite in the pen. Let’s go through what makes him good. Polled-check, dark red-check, great momma cow backing him-check, style to burn-check. Also included in this package is: quiet temperament, big testicles, dark red feet, good hair and plenty thick for a polled bull. His dam LHVS 19G has quickly climbed high in the ranks as one of our favorite cows. LHVS 19G or “sassy” is a very feminine Charles daughter. We’ve registered every calf from her. Her first, a heifer is retained in the herd, her second calf a bull, LHVS Keanu 37K sold to Wall Simmentals from SK. Her third is Oscar. Her fourth a heifer, just born is Oscar’s full sister. I don’t know how Oscar got his name because he definitely isn’t a monster living in a garbage can. Far from it. His sire LHVS bellringer 21T is a bull we used way back in the day. As I previously stated, he was probably living well before his time. Ringer was used on heifers but works better on cows. Sassy did very well with Oscar. She weighed 1620 lbs this fall and weaned 4L at 65% of her body weight, making his weaning weight 1050 lbs. Oscar is a cow bull. Sire Verified, Diluter Free

This bull has been one of my favorites this past summer and fall. This is the first of Hannah’s four bulls. Sargeant is what I think Jenkins would have looked like as a yearling. LHVS Sargeant 9L is long, thick, shorter in stature, dark, dark red, big footed with impressive testicle development. 9L reminds me of Charles when he was a yearling. He has that same stylish head. That makes sense because his dam is a Charles daughter. We like to dip into the semen tank and use some of our old reliable bulls like Jenkins. He makes really good bulls and heifers, so if we get either or we’re happy. There’s, 105 calves registered out of Jenkins, that’s not bad for a 25-year-old bull. Sargeant’s dam goes back to one of Hannah’s first bred heifers she bought from Maxwell Simmentals, Nug Hannah 584C. Yes, her name ironically is Hannah. “Glenda” is 9 years old and still producing. She has 6 calves registered out of her. Calved early this winter, with another nice heifer calf. Keep the heifers off of 9L, they’ll make great momma cows. Sargeants dam out did herself this fall weaning him at 67% of her body weight. He was another bull that weaned off at 1050 lbs. LHVS 9L is a cow bull. Sire Verified, Diluter Free

This Chunky youngster is the second of four bulls belonging to Hannah. I really like this bulls dam as she traces back to one of Hannah’s first bred heifers, SVA 412B, or “Tracey” as Hannah named her. This bulls dam, LVHS 14H, is a moderate framed, dark red cow. She has a beautiful udder and excellent feet, all compliments of her dam. 14H also has the distinction of calving twice in one year. 96K’s sire is none other than SU Jenkins 6J, a bull who definitely doesn’t need an introduction. We did a little line breeding here and it seemed to work. Renegade is a moderate framed bull with dark, liver red flashy coloring. 96K travels freely on big red feet. Quiet in nature, Renegade is easy to handle. Large testicles complete the package. LHVS 14H did a fantastic job with Renegade, weaning off 66% of her body weight. Renegade is a cow bull. On a side note, Lee wanted to steer him, but Hannah put her foot down and said no!!! Sire Verified, Diluter Free

This youngster has a bit more frame to him, but that doesn’t hurt him in any way. Smooth Steel is a dark red, good footed bull with added length. Use him on smaller framed cows and keep his daughters. His dam, LHVS 33F weaned off 71% of her body weight. Wow. Great production here. LHVS Smooth Steel is a cow bull. Diluter Free

14-Jan-23
POLLED
Here is our second Bellringer bull calf. Holy cow, what a job True North’s dam did on him. She’s 12 years old and one of the oldest cows on the farm. We’ve registered 7 calves from her. Not every calf turns out so the 7 is fantastic in my eyes. True North follows the color pattern of his sire and dam, kind of that lighter brown. He’s smooth polled and a larger framed bull. His dam is a big girl with a beautiful udder and feet. True North has been a great calf right from birth. Lots of pigment on this boy. Big nuts, large dark red feet, True North will work well on any type of commercial herd. Quiet, he’ll come up to you but won’t let you scratch him. His dam weaned off 57% of her body weight. Not bad for an older cow. True North is a cow bull. Diluter Carrier, Heteroygous Polled

POLLED
Ok, where do I start with this bull. I really like his dam, a Charles first calver. We took a chance and bred her to a young and up and coming bull from the great program of Anchor D. That bull is Anchor D Hefner 274H. Code Red is a nice polled calf, who inherited his dam’s hair, quiet demeanour, feet and pigmentation. LHVS 11J, goes back to one of our favorite cows on the farm, LHVS 8F. We’ve registered every calf out of 8F, her first calf, a bull selling to Tara Rudkowsky from Two Hills and her second, Code Red’s dam is retained in the herd, her third a bull calf, selling last year to Leedale Farming. Her fourth calf, a heifer is retained in the heifer pen. I really like Code Red, he’s one of my favorites in the pen this year. He caught my eye early on in the fall. I can see 98K going on and doing fantastic things in his breeding career. LHVS 11J or “trouble” as we call her (ask me the reason why we call her this), weaned a whopping 67% of her body weight this fall. Code Red is a cow bull. Diluter Free

One of only two black bulls we have on offer this spring. Blackout’s dam is a nice KWA Big Time daughter. Big Time is a bull we used in the past. Dark red moderate framed, LHVS 51D has a beautiful udder and feet. She has also graced the cover of the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation Fundraiser catalog. Blackout’s sire SVS Captain Morgan 11Z is our go to black A.I. bull the past few years. Captain Morgan calves easy and his calves grow well. LHVS 2L is a well put together bull. Long, thick, deep bodied, he has excellent feet and travels freely. Big nutted this guy will give you easy calving combined with lots of performance in his calves. Keep his daughters, they should make great momma cows. LHVS 51D is a big girl, thick bodied, she weighed 1720 lbs this fall. Even more impressive is she weaned 62% of her body weight. I like this bull. His dam is a solid black cow we bred to Captain Morgan. The funny thing about Captain Morgan is, you can breed him to a black cow and get a red calf and breed him to a red cow and get a black calf. 9 times out of 10 this is what happens. Prime Time is a “prime” example of this occurrence. 19L is a red bull from two black parents. Doesn’t hurt him in any way. He should mature into a moderate framed bull. Prime Time is a quiet bull who always waits at the gate for a scratch. 19L is a solid little bull who would work really well in a commercial herd of red factors, (Ed Bajema wink, wink). His dam has a beautiful udder and feet. She’s a really good sound cow. Keep his daughters, you won’t be disappointed. Prime time weaned off his dam at 54% of her body weight. Oh Hometown. This black baldie bull is one of my favorites in the purebred pen. Gentle in nature, Hometown lived up near the barn for the first 3 weeks of his life. His mom, LHVS 59J was a very timid bred heifer. After being chased off Hometown when he was born, she had trouble connecting with him. She’d moo at him, lick him but wouldn’t let him suck…except when she was laying down. He figured out pretty quickly how to work her. 59J is a “Seven” daughter and maternal sibling to LHVS Smooth Steel 32L, the polled Jenkins bull. Small in stature and delicately made, this is the only bull in our string we’d recommend for heifers. LHVS 59J did very well with Hometown, weaning him off at 60% of her body weight. LHVS Korbin 22K who went to Jerry Isaac from Carrot Creek, SK. The Game is the pens biggest pet. LHVS 33L is smaller framed but just as thick. He’s a chunky monkey. Good feet and legs, excellent nut development. His dam is a really good little cow. This makes sense because she’s paternal siblings with Charles. The productivity is there. We’ve registered every one of her calves. That’s impressive. Mouse weaned off 61% of her body weight. LHVS The Game is a cow bull. Diluter Free

Here’s the third bull belonging to Hannah. LHVS Western Wishes 51L is the second “Seven” bull calf in our sale offering. His dam LHVS 39F is a beautiful Charles daughter who goes back to “Tracey”. Hannah has registered every calf out of her. 39F has one of the best udders I’ve seen on a cow. High and tight with small teats. 39F is dark, dark red with beautiful feet. I really like this cow. Western Wishes is a dark brown bull who just kinda blends into the pen. You don’t really notice him until you get him by himself. He’ll work well on any type of commercial herd. He’s a thick bull, good feet and legs with lots of nuts. Western Wishes dam weaned him off at 56% of her body weight. LHVS 51L is a cow bull. Diluter Free Dam of Lot 13

LHVS Sure Fire 61L, is a red factor sired by SBV Mark 711F or “Seven”. Here you can see the influence of Wheatland Killswitch as he is sure fire’s maternal grandsire. Smaller in frame, 61L travels smoothly on legs and feet given to him by both parents. He has a nice hair coat, great temperament and great muscle expression. Sure Fire will work well on any type of commercial herd but I think he’d excel on an Angus or Hereford based cows. Nice little bull here. His dam LHVS 23H weaned him off at 59% of her body weight. She’s a small cow with a nice udder, a sweet temperament and good feet. LHVS Sure Fire 61L is a cow bull.

Big Red really isn’t all that big. He’s a half-brother to LHVS 61L and comes from a tank of a cow, LHVS 53A. She’s deep, deep and wide across her back. I’ve never seen such good feet on an older cow. We’ve never touched them. Big Red is a very handsome fellow who has a smooth build. He has a small head that flows nicely into his shoulders. Good feet and legs on 64L. His birth weight is a bit higher but coming from 53A that isn’t surprising. At weaning, she weighed 1890 lbs. I don’t anticipate any problems with him calving. I would definitely keep heifers from him, their production should be fantastic. LHVS 64L is a cow bull. Heterozygous Polled, Diluter Free

LHVS Coyote Ugly 65L is the type of bull that gets overlooked in the bull pen. The fourth and final bull of Hannah’s. Moderate framed, quiet, dark brown in color, with good legs and feet. Coyote is backed by “Seven” and a really good Charles granddaughter. 15G is moderate framed, has a tidy udder and just quietly does her job. If you do some snooping into her pedigree, you’ll see one of my favorite cows of all time- LHVS MS Lockhart 70R. 70R was a Gidsco Appollo daughter who had the best set of feet and legs I’ve ever seen on a cow. Moderate framed and liver red in color 70R was a definite favorite around here. 15G did a good job with Coyote Ugly, weaning him off at 56% of her body weight. LHVS Coyote Ugly 65L is a cow bull. LHVS Hard Copy 75L is another great combination of “Seven” and a Wheatland Killswitch dam. Again, this bull is just like his 1/2 and 3/4 brothers. Moderate framed, lots of muscle expression, good feet and legs with adequate testicle. His dam is a solid red cow with lots of milk, moderate framed, thick and deep through her body. I really like his dam. Hard Copy is a good little bull that will work well in any program. We always look for our cows to produce at least 50% of their body weight and 18H did her job, weaning off Hard Copy at 55%. LHVS Hard Copy 75L is a cow bull.

Silvertop Lucky Strike 449L is a bull that I am extremely excited to have on offer! 449L is structurally correct with an explosive middle and travels effortlessly on a large black foot. He topped the scale at weaning, pushing down the scale at an impressive 1000 lbs. I was fortunate enough to take home his dam, WLB 323B Rita 449E from the barn burning WLB Dispersal in the fall of 2020. 449E sold alongside her heifer calf which was purchased by Labatte Simmentals. Her yearling daughter also went through the dispersal and was purchased by Sunny Valley Simmentals. Rita is an eye catching, long bodied, deep ribbed cow that stands on an impeccable set of feet with a picture perfect udder. She is one that checks all the boxes for me, and made her way into the donor pen this past spring. A son of hers went through the ring in 2022 and was a sale highlight, purchased by the Lacombe Research Center. Rita’s mating with the $150,000 Yuma worked well, resulting in an exciting young herd sire that you won’t want to miss the opportunity to own on sale day. HOMO BLACK

Silvertop Luxar 10L is a bull that you can’t help but love. He was the pasture favourite all summer, always demanding all the attention through his captivating presence. 10L is hard to fault, he is beautifully made with a wide top that follows down a long spine with a deep rib, carried by a strong solid black foot. Not only is Luxar phenotypically correct, he also boasts an exciting pedigree. We purchased his dam as one of the high selling heifer calves at the famous Friday Night Lights sale in 2018 from Rafter 4T. Believer always seems to be a crowd favorite on pasture tours each year due to her sheer mass, as she is currently pushing down the scale at 2100 lbs. 10L is sired by our calving ease herdsire ‘Mandate’ that we purchased from Ranciers. Mandate is a bull we can not say enough good things about, he stamps his progeny so consistently with beautiful confirmation and temperaments. The Mandate sired cattle have proven themselves to be a hot commodity, being our most sought after, high selling progeny group that we have ever offered year after year. 10L’s bold structure, sound foot and strong maternal genetics are something that you can build a herd around, invest with confidence in this exciting young bull. Silvertop Luxury 33L is a really special milestone calf for our farm - he is the first bull I have ever had on offer that is sired by a home raised bull. 33L is a bull that you can really appreciate when he gets out on the move. He has a docile presence, advanced testicle development and thick structure. His dam is a powerful black baldy cow that is in her prime, and continues to knock it out of the park on each calf she raises. She is a front pasture type female, with a set of strong black feet and is heavy milking while maintaining a near perfect udder. She has had three sons go through the sale in previous years, with one selling to Ed Bajema, Rod Hall and Darren May. If you’re looking for a bull with the maternal background to sire you stand out replacement females, being a Rita grandson - he is the one for you! Take a serious look at 33L on sale day, he is full of consistency that you can rely on.

Silvertop Liberty 67L is arguably the most eye-catching bull in the entire offering with lots of chrome! He displays advanced testicle development, broad hip shape and overall capacity through his middle third. His dam is a red baldy cow and if you know me, you know that if I keep a red cow around she has to be awesome... Honey is a young front pasture type female, that is heavy milking with a near perfect udder and set of feet, not to mention her well rounded pedigree. His sire is the $317,500 phenom that sold to Double Bar D and has been used heavily at many progressive operations. Welcome to the Lockhart Valley Bull sale! I’d like to thank the Robson’s for hosting me again as well as Bret for the clipping! Once again, my bull calves were pulled from the cows and brought over to the Lockhart Valley ranch to be fed alongside their fellow sale mates for the winter.
COW BOSS SIMMENTALS
My registered cowherd has been slow to grow in numbers. (Not that I don’t want it to) High expectations, continuous evaluations and heavy bull to heifer calf born ratios keep my numbers hovering. With that being said, I then have some bull calf options to be able to choose through. My sale consignment numbers remain the same, but I am happy with the 5 bulls I have on offer. With markets trading as high as ever, it is nice to see the ranching lifestyle we all love living, getting rewarded for all the hard work and dedication it involves. I always love to chat cattle, so feel free to call if you have any questions on my offering! I hope to see everyone Saturday March 2!

I have always agreed with the saying, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Leviticus is the fourth consecutive full sibling from this mating. All full brothers, one of which I retained for my own use (Cow Boss Hiawatha - Sire to Cow Boss Luca 82L) as well as selling the others to Trautman Ventures and KG Land and Cattle. His dam 818U has been a fantastic cow for me. She raised him at 15 years of age, to a very respectable weaning weight of 975 pounds September 5th (without any creep feed.) Leviticus has a fantastic calm demeanor, great depth of body, length of spine, is loose made, soggy and has good feet. He will sire high performing steers but create some fantastic replacement females that will have longevity in their veins! Parentage Verified and Diluter Free.

Law Man has had the “bull” look since a early age. His muscle definition is impressive. He has a table top back and a poppin ass! He has the easy fleshing build that I strive to create in my cattle. Be sure to check out his video when it becomes available closer to sale time, to be able to fully appreciate his thickness. (Those will be available to view on the DLMS website) His Dam is one of my best producers. Last year she raised twin heifers all on her own. As I write this, those sisters are both near calving and I am sure happy with how they look! This bull will sire a fantastic set of performance steers, but his strong suit could be his daughters! He does carry some BW but has adequate length and a small skull structure. Like father, like son - I will close out this footnote with the same words Danny Skeels closed out “Eldor’s” footnote when he was cataloged. “He is an absolute tank” and that he is! This is my first bull sale and it’s been super neat learning all the ropes from such a great family. I’d like to also give a huge thanks to my Dad who got me into the purebred industry and he’s been a huge support to my program. I’d also like to give thanks to the many breeders who have helped me out in selecting animals to grow my herd and supporting me in my early days, without their confidence and support my herd wouldn’t be where it is. My bulls were weaned early September and they have been housed and fed with the Lockhart bulls since then. These bulls did not see any creep feed and they show what the cows are capable of. My cattle are my pride and joy and I’m excited to see them go out and work at other people’s farms. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to expand my herd the past few years and I’m super thrilled about this opportunity. My purebred herd runs right in the mix with our farms commercial herd and they don’t get special treatment, they have to put in the work. My cattle speak for themselves in the pen but they are made to be functionable cattle that will go out and perform, one of my key thoughts when raising cattle is if I wouldn’t use them in my herd I wouldn’t sell them to others, so be assured these are top quality animals that will go out and do the work. I look forward to seeing you all at the sale March 2, and feel free to get in touch with me to discuss my offering.

Lager as he is known to everyone is a standout bull, he’s been an eye catcher since day one, he screams herd bull. If you’re looking for power and growth he’s your bull, he has been gaining 3.9 pounds a day since weaning. Lager is as quiet as can be and he loves his scratches. Everyone notices Lager and for good reason. He is my oldest bull in the offering but has been growing and developing phenomenally. He’s out of a Scheifelbein Showman son from Hamilton Farms and his sire was selected for his highly desired phenotype and genotype, Lager is a chip off the ol’ block. Lager’s dam has been a highly fertile and productive cow in my herd and has made a huge impact! I’d recommend Lager to be used on cows.

Gunfight is a super neat bull, he’s got a super long spine and a good strong set of legs. This bull is a standout and he will catch your eye in the pen, he has a cool style to him! His dam is a nice larger framed cow so he’ll develop into a larger framed bull. His dam is a beautiful cow, perfect feet and a perfect udder and she is a picture perfect angus cow. He is quiet as can be and moves super smoothly. He’s got true angus character to him and he’s sure to add on pounds to your steers and make a beautiful set of heifers that you’ll wanna keep. Gunfight could be used on heifers or cows your choice!

Payweight has been a cool bull his whole life, he is the youngest in the sale and won’t quite be a year old by sale day, but that hasn’t slowed him down any. His dam is a beautiful Tibbie cow and she has a very nice style to her with a beautiful udder and great maternal instinct. This bull is super smooth topped and flows very well all around, he is a quiet easy doing calf that is one that catches your eye with his build. His pedigree is bound to make him a female maker. Payweight is a solid calf and he holds his own well, he has shown up and exceeded my expectations! I’m super excited about this bull so don’t let his age discourage you. Payweight can be used on heifers or cows.
