HILLSIDE SPECIALIST REACHES THE TOP In its first year of entry, Hillview Construction is delighted to win three awards at the Canterbury Master Builders House of the Year competition.
T
he City Centre house won Gold, Gold Reserve, and Category Winner for the ‘House $550k $700k’ category, and goes through to the New Zealand-wide competition. Its fresh and light plaster panel cladding sits beneath pitched heritage tray roofing and red aluminium composite panels are a design highlight, as is the glazed floating staircase. Director Shaun Campbell’s home on Mount Pleasant won a Silver Award in the ‘Builder’s Own Home’ category. Ultra-modern, the house features an expansive stairwell leading to a mezzanine floor overlooking the dining area, double height ceilings and designer lighting. Shaun employs his house as a private show home. Clients can come up and see new and designer products in situ, while Sean can guarantee their functionality and quality. “Clients love to visit at night to experience the lighting, while more quirky features such as the automatic lawnmower provide inspiration and food for thought,” he says. challenge of a rocky site, unpredictable winds, and where the detailing and finishing is truly difficult to do. Acknowledging the workmanship of subcontractors, Shaun says the awards give people reassurance that you can build to the standard they want, and that the Master Builders organisation is great. “It’s really helpful all round as a builder and to clients as well.”
