nette and Graeme Drewery have embellished North Canterbury’s original Meadery with vintage French-country charm. They extend a warm invite to wander the gardens and the historic homestead’s courtyard garlanded with old roses and shaded by magnificent established trees. Golden Retrievers Daisy and Flynn welcome visitors, as do the fluffy-plumaged chickens - which even have their own petite farmhouse with French shutters. The gift and clothing boutique in the original mead factory has one-off fashion pieces, from Italy and France, of finely woven linen, soft lace, chiffon, cotton and delicate knits. New shipments of flattering, feminine designer pieces regularly arrive in chic neutrals and pops of colour. An eclectic mix of old and new giftware offers something affordable for everyone this Christmas and includes Pre de Provence quad-milled shea-butter soaps, French Durance home-fragrance and exquisite Bianca Lorenne linen. The Jeanne d-Arc Living Magazine for sale showcases the Nordic take on French country design. The light, whitewashed, fresh shades interestingly mirror provincial French chic. Additional to imported treasures, Graeme’s carpentry skills up-cycle items such as dressing tables and shelves. Also appreciating the gnarled detail of an old farm post, for example, he gives it new life as part of a table. Anette completes a piece by cleverly recreating an authentic patina - drawing upon her love affair of the romance of a French antique.
