Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection. Your healthcare provider will test you for HBV. If you have both HIV-1 and HBV, your HBV may suddenly get worse if you stop taking BIKTARVY. ABOUT BIKTARVY
BIKTARVY is a complete, 1-pill, once-a-day prescription medicine used to treat HIV-1 in adults and children who weigh at least 55 pounds. It can either be used in people who have never taken HIV-1 medicines before, or people who are replacing their current HIV-1 medicines and whose healthcare provider determines they meet certain requirements.
BIKTARVY does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS. HIV-1 is the virus that causes AIDS.
Do NOT take BIKTARVY if you also take a medicine that contains:
dofetilide
rifampin
any other medicines to treat HIV-1
BEFORE TAKING BIKTARVY
Tell your healthcare provider if you:
Have or have had any kidney or liver problems, including hepatitis infection.
Have any other health problems.
Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Tell your healthcare provider if you become pregnant while taking BIKTARVY.
Are breastfeeding (nursing) or plan to breastfeed. Talk to your healthcare provider about the risks of breastfeeding during treatment with BIKTARVY.
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take:
Keep a list that includes all prescription and over-thecounter medicines, antacids, laxatives, vitamins, and herbal supplements, and show it to your healthcare provider and pharmacist.
BIKTARVY and other medicines may a ect each other. Ask your healthcare provider and pharmacist about medicines that interact with BIKTARVY, and ask if it is safe to take BIKTARVY with all your other medicines.

Changes in your immune system. Your immune system may get stronger and begin to fight infections that may have been hidden in your body. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any new symptoms after you start taking BIKTARVY.
Kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your healthcare provider should do blood and urine tests to check your kidneys. If you develop new or worse kidney problems, they may tell you to stop taking BIKTARVY.
Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic acidosis), which is a serious but rare medical emergency that can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get these symptoms: weakness or being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain, being short of breath or fast breathing, stomach pain with nausea and vomiting, cold or blue hands and feet, feel dizzy or lightheaded, or a fast or abnormal heartbeat.
Severe liver problems, which in rare cases can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get these symptoms: skin or the white part of your eyes turns yellow, dark “tea-colored” urine, light-colored stools, loss of appetite for several days or longer, nausea, or stomach-area pain.
The most common side e ects of BIKTARVY in clinical studies were diarrhea (6%), nausea (6%), and headache (5%).

WELCOME TO OUR FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME ISSUE. MY SUMMER STARTED OFF WITH PARTICIPATION IN A NUMBER OF VIBRANT PRIDE EVENTS, WHICH ALWAYS PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE. Celebrating and connecting with members of our growing community has a vital impact on emotional well-being. We aren’t alone!
A couple of other community events I reveled in during the early summer months included the Third Annual Palm Springs Equality Wine & Food Fest presented by the LGBT Wine Society (lgbtwinesociety.com). This festival showcased wineries, eateries, and retailers which are owned or operated by women, or members of the LGBTQ+ or BIPOC communities. The love in the room was palpable! Then I got a fix of vitamin D and exercise during my annual visit to Sonoma County, California for Gay Wine Weekend in July where we drank, ate, and danced the night away in a vineyard at La Crema Winery. Metrosource was a proud sponsor of both events.
While many of our nation’s major Pride events take place in June, there are still dozens of events coming up in late summer and early fall. A good opportunity to plan a weekend getaway to one of these lively cities yet to host their Pride:

ACCORDING TO A PEW RESEARCH CENTER STUDY COMPLETED THIS YEAR, QUEER AMERICANS ARE JUST ABOUT TWICE AS LIKELY TO ENGAGE IN ASTROLOGY (AND OTHER RELATED PRACTICES LIKE TAROT) THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION. The allure? The art of astrology does not focus on a belief, but rather on self-exploration and finding your place in the universe, aka community. For those of us raised on strict norms as dictated by organized religion, astrology offers a level of connection and spirituality free of dogma and persecution. Sexuality and gender identity are up for fluid exploration in the world of astrology; the appeal is obvious.
A shining star representing the queer world and beyond in the world of astrology is celebrity astrologist, author, celebrity life coach, and TV personality Kyle Thomas. Over the past decade, Kyle has become a global phenomenon and has provided cosmic guidance to celebrities, business executives, and prominent influencers. He serves as the official Resident Astrologer for People Magazine, @Horoscopes, and @ Horo.ScopesDaily. He has also been featured on Access Hollywood, E! Kyle came into his connection with spirituality and astrology early on, even before understanding what it entailed. As his education and experience exploring the world of astrology grew, he began to understand his place in the universe and his learning that it is all connected.
I was raised Catholic. However, I began to have very profound psychic and intuitive visions, so I was always a bit “eccentric.” I have a deep connection to angelic energy and have connected to these divine energies since I was a child. While I can even remember (what I interpret to be) angels came to visit me when I was in the crib (seriously). I have also met individuals in my life in the physical form who I believe have been angelic forces. Growing up, I was always very connected to my innate gifts, and was lucky to have a connection to Christianity, and had parents and my grandparents to help encourage me to connect to spirituality. While I would not consider myself Catholic any longer, I still believe
in angels, Jesus Christ, and the saints—but from my decades of research, I also believe that all “spirits” that humanity has connected to, whether that’s the ancient Gods or nature, they all exist and can be accessed. Yet, growing up, I was always the weird astrology kid. But hey, it was important for me to experience that, and now I own it as an integral part of my identity—and luckily, people worldwide are resonating with my art. That means so much to me.
and we can find it most prominently when we focus on nature, our higher selves, and treating people with compassion, love, kindness, and focus on art. Artists, in themselves, are also spiritual in the sense that they can sometimes channel divine energy. I also believe all people—regardless of whether they believe in spirituality or any form of religion—possess intuitive gifts. It’s as simple as “trusting your gut” or a fight or flight response, but the more that we practice and are open to them, the
According to Kyle, we all have the ability to connect with the universe. Spirituality and astrology are constants, and to connect with them, one must truly understand and be true to oneself. This ideal is essentially at the core of faith-based religions but often gets mired down by rules and limiting ideas, especially when it pertains to the queer community. Kyle’s instruction goes beyond sexuality, class, gender, or race.
Ultimately, I believe that there is a spiritual side to life, whether it is seen or unseen,
more that we can enhance them. That’s why, even though some people are “born” with natural gifts, I believe everyone can practice their intuition and not only become more in touch with themselves, but with the harmony and movement of the universe.
Kyle came into his relationship with astrology before even understanding he was part of the queer community. Now, his queer and astrology complement each other in a very personal way.

growing up. I just thought I was extra sensitive and creative, but I fell in love with my best friend in high school, and since I wasn’t drawn to men out of pure sexuality, it was more that he and I found a deep soul connection. It was very passionate and overpowering. At that point in time, I realized that “love,” regardless of gender, was never wrong and that there was something different out there for me. To this day, I am a romantic, and even though that initial love story didn’t work out at that time, I still prefer opening my heart and soul to connect with someone more intimately.
I believe that being gay has given me a unique perspective on people, life, and art. Astrology has been an integral part of my life for thirty years, and I wanted to learn more not only about myself, but the world, and other people. Myth, ancient civilization, and human psychology have always been deep passions for me. While I am publicly known as a Celebrity Astrologer, I also consider myself a spiritual artist, and my sexuality is like art; it is motivated by emotion, creativity, and my passion.
Kyle’s place as a highly regarded celebrity astrologer (his celeb client list is long) makes sense, given that he has a keen understanding of the arts and how Hollywood works. He started early in life as a trained professional actor and writer, beginning by directing plays with his cousins. He started acting at age 8, wrote his first novel at age 13, and did extensive professional theater work in Wisconsin and Chicago
before earning his degrees in Psychology and English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Hollywood was calling, and his move to start his own production company at the age of 22 would shift his full-time journey into the world of astrology.
I moved to Los Angeles on a solar eclipse in September 2015. I wept on the plane because I knew my life was changing, and I was about to begin a whole new life chapter. My attorney, Katherine Imp, who is still my friend and attorney to this day, encouraged me to take the leap to Hollywood. When coming to Los Angeles, I spent time focusing on being a television writer and independent producer. However, the strangest thing happened during the years that followed.
Growing up, I was always the “weird astrology kid” who would ask everyone their zodiac sign the first time I met them. I also had been raised to be super spiritual and was born with highly intense psychic and intuitive gifts, so I also began practicing Tarot when I was 18. I became highly skilled at practicing astrology and my intuitive gifts. I began to start posting them on Facebook, and they started going viral. On the side to make extra money, I also started doing astrology and Tarot readings for celebrities (because of my network in Los Angeles)—and they started referring me to their friends, who were also celebrities and powerful movers and shakers. Then astrology blogs began to reach out to hire me to write their predictions. And then suddenly in 2019,
I got a phone call from Cosmopolitan Magazine. They said, “Everyone is talking about your predictions because they’re so accurate, so we want to interview you.” But it was the scariest thing in my entire life because I realized I had to jump fully into becoming a pop culture astrologer and leave behind my entire filmmaking career. So I leapt. Suddenly, publications nationwide all wanted to feature me, and celebrities everywhere wanted to do readings with me. Since then, it’s blown up. It’s taken an immense amount of work—I’m not an “overnight success.” I’ve put thousands of hours, tears, love, passion, sorrow, and all of my soul into it. But I believe the universe needs my light and all of my emotion and art.
Kyle has been self-taught and has read thousands of books on the subject. He has worked with high-profile people who include politicians, CEOs, and celebrities around the globe, and has been published on every continent save for Antarctica. He continues to be the go-to astrologer on screen, with other projects on the near horizon that will make him even more of a household name. What is the winning element of what he does that has made him such a sensation?
There are many reasons that set me apart, but the first is that I am accurate. I also seek to empower people, regardless of whether they are famous or powerful or not, with my art. While I enjoy working with powerful people, I don’t treat them as “famous.” I treat them as a human. We all have human needs. Everyone wants to know about love, success, health, and happiness. Regardless if someone is famous or not, I put all of my focus on them and guide them to their heart’s desires. At the end of the day, I want to be a light that they feel has changed their lives for the better.
And how does astrology play a part in Kyle’s own life?
Well, of course, I map out my own astrology daily, monthly, and yearly timing so I know where I am headed. And of course, I will look at the stars of my close friends and family—but I often look at astrological compatibility in romance to see where there may be opportunities for connection or challenges. Plus, I like to just have fun with it! I’m obsessed with astrology, and it’s such a passion at the center of my being. Being able to work in the media—television, podcasting, magazines, newspapers, and beyond—on a worldwide level fills me with such gratitude.
For the queer community, Kyle has partnered
with Best Man Matchmaking and serves as the company’s resident astrologist, helping queer men find their soul mate. What can the queer community learn from the universe when it comes to love and dating?
Romantic compatibility is not just focused on Sun signs. Compatibility is far more complex than that. Sometimes people are like, “I won’t date this sign,” and what I try to remind them is that relationships are multi-faceted. I also try to remind people that even “incompatible” zodiac signs can work. I’ve dated—and had successful relationships—with every single zodiac sign. At the end of the day, it’s not just raw astrological compatibility; it’s also the hard work we put into a relationship. If you want to make it work, you can, but people need to be on the same page, and communication, integrity, and sensitivity are crucial no matter what the relationship is: romantically, platonically, family, or beyond.
Kyle’s astrological advice for the queer community goes beyond love and dating. Given the turmoil we are facing politically as a community, he knows the power of astrology and how it can all unite us.
The key to everything is community. We must remember that even though we are all individuals with diverse backgrounds, we must come from a place of compassion, kindness, and support. The upcoming years (and decades) promise a lot of change, but the more than that, we unite and know that we can evolve the world to a better, more beautiful place, we can emerge into a new era where life is more magical than it has ever been before. While I am a Millennial, the key is to also outreach to other generations around us and forge alliances and seek to empower one another rather than driving divisions between us. At the end of the day, regardless of whether we are queer or not, we must remember that people just want to be loved, accepted, heard, and honored. This is why we must celebrate diversity rather than fight against it.

How does he maintain his mental health while being pulled in so many different directions?
I’m a Midwestern boy at heart, and my family is the core of my soul. My family keeps me centered. Plus, I have an incredible community of friends all over the nation who love and support me. While I am immensely proud of what I have built, I am still that Midwestern boy who likes to be silly, kind, and compassionate. I can be geeky and down-toearth. Gratitude is a deep part of my soul, so the ability to radiate my light on such a vast scale worldwide fills me with sensitivity, and I even cry about how grateful I am sometimes. It’s always happy tears.
In truth, I seek to continue to build my spiritual connection with the universe, so prayer, meditation, and stillness are important at times. Yet, I am also a very social human, so spending time with family and friends really grounds me, as well as my sweet little Shiba Inu, Leo. I love creating art—I write lyrics for my professional music producer, Craig Snider, who has worked with major artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and beyond, as well as I paint. I’m working on a new fantasy novel, too. Beyond that, I love exercise and spending time in nature. Travel has also become one of my favorite things, and I went to Europe for the first time in 2025. I am taking my mother
to Montreal this year, and my family and I are going to London, Italy, Greece, and beyond next year.
He isn’t just putting on a show for Hollywood with his skill. He is building a legacy.
I am a spiritual artist who synthesizes art, astrology, spirituality, and psychology into my work. I think the most important thing I want in the future is that I want to shine so brightly that I can empower and give hope to those who are lost in the darkness. I want to make the world a brighter and better place. When I bring the full majesty of the heavens to the world, then my mission in this lifetime will be complete.
And his message to the queer community?
Know that no matter what happens, if we work as a community, we will be a force greater than a tsunami, louder than thunder, and brighter than the sunrise. Love one another. Be kind. And if you are ever afraid or feel like you are in darkness, know that you are not alone. Humanity is a tapestry of beauty, so we must celebrate that—and become one. ■

TURNING ACTIVISM INTO REALITY TS
TS MADISON IS A MULTI-TALENTED ENTERTAINER AND ACTRESS WHO HAS BECOME A PROMINENT VOICE IN THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. Her remarkable journey is a compelling narrative of resilience, self-creation, and radical authenticity. It culminates in her latest, deeply impactful venture: the Ts Madison Starter House, a tangible manifestation of her unwavering commitment to the Black transgender community.
Her initial rise to fame through viral internet content set the stage for a career defined by an unfiltered, authentic persona that has consistently challenged norms and reshaped perceptions. Madison’s journey from internet personality to mainstream icon and dedicated community architect is a testament to her enduring power and influence.
In 2014, she released her debut album, The New Supreme, and in 2015, she published her memoir, A Light Through the Shade: An Autobiography of a Queen. She has since appeared in films such as Zola and Bros, and in 2021, she made history as the first Black transgender woman to star in and serve as executive producer for her own reality show, The Ts Madison Experience.
Her involvement with RuPaul’s Drag Race has also been a major part of her career. After making several appearances as a guest judge, she became a permanent judge on the show

starting with season 15. Madison’s voice was also famously sampled on Beyoncé’s 2022 album, Renaissance, on the song “Cozy.”
Beyond her entertainment career, Ts Madison is a dedicated activist. On this year’s Trans Day of Visibility, Madison welcomed the press into her home in Atlanta. This wasn’t just any open house; this was the grand opening of the first Ts Madison Starter House, a reentry home for formerly incarcerated transgender women.
According to Madison, it is not just a building, it is the start of a movement, inspired by her own experience as a Black, trans woman who had her own experiences with homelessness and survival sex work. This is a new wave of activism, providing a life-changing chance for women to reclaim their lives, designed and fashioned by and for the Black trans community.
Queer folk experience a number of challenges in reentering life from incarceration, especially those with HIV, including access to healthcare, lack of housing, and the presentday discrimination in full force towards the LGBTQ community. This is on top of the other challenges faced by those who have served time in jail. Regarding the trans community, the startling facts remain that Black transgender women are incarcerated at almost ten times the rate of the general population. Madison is
putting her money and resources where her mouth is and turning activism into a tangible resource. For her, it isn’t just about doing something with good intentions; it is about fulfilling what she feels is her duty.
My spirit of giving comes from the seeds my mother, Ms. Mary, planted inside of me as a child. I just have my own style! Also, I know how it feels to be overlooked. I don’t have the luxury of ignoring the world—when you’re a Black trans woman, your existence is political. I speak up because silence has never saved us.
As an entertainer with a big personality, Madison remains unabashedly outspoken, especially in the face of adversity. Turning her home into a transitional facility did not come without its challenges. Ts takes these challenges and turns them into life lessons. Her first Starter House is just the beginning.
The biggest challenge was getting people to believe in the vision—not just the girl. But I don’t let “no” stop me, I let it fuel me. Building the Ts Madison Starter House meant knocking on doors, and when they didn’t open, I built my own. I learned that I’m not just a dreamer, I’m a builder. The Starter House showed me I have the power to create safe spaces where others can start again, just like I once needed. The first house was the seed—I plan to grow
a garden. My vision is a national network of Starter Houses for trans folks to feel safe, stable, and supported.
Even with her fame and success, Madison remains grounded and committed to her philanthropic work. She is also very candid about balancing the needs of her career, activism, and mental health. How does she handle the duality of her public and personal life?
There’s no separation, it’s all me. Whether I’m on stage, on set, or on a panel, I’m bringing my whole truth. I just switch the wig depending on the audience! I give what I can, but I don’t pour from an empty cup. And let me be real—sometimes that cup needs prayer, rest, a lil’ therapy, and a daily supplement or two! I want my legacy to say: “She didn’t just make noise, she made change.” Whether it’s through media, activism, or partnerships like the one with Pure for Men, I want to leave this world softer and safer for the next generation.
In her opinion, how can the queer community best support the trans community?
Start by showing up, not just for the parties but for the policies. Uplift trans voices, fund trans futures, and stop treating us like an afterthought. We are the movement. Love on each other—loudly. Protect your sisters, your siblings, your elders. And remember: Pride is more than a party—it’s a promise to never go backward.
The efforts of the Ts Madison Starter House are being supported in partnership with NAESM, Inc., one of the oldest Black-led HIV/ AIDS service organizations in the South, and the men’s well-being company, Pure for Men. Pure for Men, offering dietary supplements for “bottoming with confidence,” health and wellness products, oh, and, of course, lube, may seem like an odd pairing, but in looking at the big picture, it makes perfect sense.
I said yes to Pure for Men because they said yes to me—fully. They didn’t just want my face; they respected my voice, my mission, and my community. That’s the kind of partnership I believe in.
Pure for Men is a Black and queer owned company. Like Madison, they are not just making broad statements of support; they are turning activism into reality. They have aided in the establishment of the Starter House, are supporting the launch of a national HIV/AIDS strategy dedicated to Black LGBTQ+ communities, which includes the filming of a documentary covering the efforts of the House. During Pride Month, the company donated a portion of sales to the
Starter House, volunteered and participated in community events advocating for trans and non-binary rights, created and shared educational content spotlighting queer issues, and sponsored a number of events important to the queer community.
Lawrence Johnson, co-founder and CEO of Pure for Men, sat down with Metrosource to talk about the company’s partnership with Madison. The company, founded in 2015, wasn’t just intended to be a for-profit company.
Pure for Men was founded with a simple mission: to empower queer people to feel confident, clean, and ready for intimacy, without shame or stigma. We saw a need for a wellness brand that puts our community first, blending sexual health, cleanliness, and confidence into one trusted solution. What sets us apart is our unapologetic commitment to our community. Our success stems from trust, built on transparency, representation, and results.
Giving back is in our DNA because we know our success is deeply tied to the strength and resilience of the queer community. We believe that visibility should come with responsibility, and we’re proud to invest in organizations, leaders, and causes that uplift and protect our most vulnerable.
Businesses across the nation are experiencing economic challenges. Those are compounded by the political climate for a queer-owned and queer-minded company like Pure for Men.
These (political) attacks have only deepened our resolve. As a queer- and POC-owned business, we feel an even greater duty to speak up, support our community, and create safe, affirming spaces, both online and off. Navigating underrepresentation in retail, access to capital, and bias in marketing channels can be daunting. But staying true to our voice and investing directly in our community has helped us turn challenges into opportunities for impact.
Pure for Men’s partnership with Ts Madison comes at an important time, merging the two organizations’ missions to support the community. For Lawrence, it made perfect sense.
We’ve long admired Ts Madison as a trailblazer and truth-teller. When we learned about her housing initiative for Black trans women, it aligned perfectly with our mission
to support grassroots solutions, so we reached out to collaborate in a way that was authentic and impactful. Black trans people are often the most marginalized and least protected within our LGBTQIA+ family. Supporting them isn’t just a moral obligation; it’s a call to stand in solidarity and recognize that true liberation must include all of us. We were deeply moved by the disproportionate rates of violence, housing insecurity, and systemic exclusion Black trans people face every day. These realities aren’t just statistics; they’re a call to action for education, allyship, and structural change.
From Lawrence’s point of view, how can the queer community be of best support to the trans community?
Listen to trans voices, uplift their leadership, and put money and resources behind their work. It’s about shifting from performative allyship to real, sustained support,
especially for Black and Brown trans individuals. Stay proud, stay visible, and stay ready. You are worthy of wellness, joy, and liberation, and we’ll keep showing up for you every step of the way.
And what does he want most for the future of the company?
We want to keep growing as a brand that champions wellness and empowerment while staying deeply rooted in community. Our goal is to redefine what it means to be a queer-owned company, impactful, inclusive, and bold. ■

FOUR DAYS IN WINE COUNTRY

SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, IS MORE THAN JUST ROLLING VINEYARDS AND WORLD-CLASS WINES; IT’S A VIBRANT TAPESTRY WOVEN WITH RICH HISTORY, STUNNING NATURAL BEAUTY, AND A PROUDLY QUEER-INCLUSIVE SPIRIT. For LGBTQ+ travelers seeking a sophisticated yet welcoming escape, Sonoma offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of wine country.
While often associated with its more boisterous neighbor, San Francisco, Sonoma County has long been a quiet haven and a place of activism for the LGBTQ+ community. Guerneville, nestled along the Russian River, holds a particularly significant place in this history. Affectionately known as “The River,” it emerged as a prominent LGBTQ+ resort town, especially for gay men, with a history stretching back decades.
After the logging industry declined and the town faced severe flooding in the 1960s, a new kind of visitor began to arrive. In the 1970s, LGBTQ+ individuals started buying up the available resorts and businesses. This allowed for the open establishment of gay-friendly spaces. Peter Pender, a Philadelphia man, bought a riverside hotel in 1978 and renamed it Fife’s, creating Guerneville’s first openly gay resort. Other gay-focused businesses quickly followed, including The Woods, Highlands Resort, The R3 Hotel, and the iconic Rainbow Cattle Company, which still thrives on Main Street today.
The late 1970s and early 1980s saw Guerneville flourish as a weekend destination for the queer community, particularly as the sexual revolution spread from San Francisco. Even during the devastating HIV and AIDS epidemic of the 80s and 90s, Guerneville remained a vital refuge, where the lesbian community often took on caregiving roles for gay men affected by the crisis – a testament to the community’s solidarity. Today, Guerneville continues its legacy of acceptance, hosting events like Lazy Bear Week, Women’s Weekend Russian River, and Russian River Pride, ensuring its place as a welcoming and celebratory destination for all.
Santa Rosa, as the county seat, also plays a crucial role in Sonoma’s LGBTQ+ narrative. While not historically a “gayborhood” in the same vein as Guerneville, Santa Rosa has a thriving and increasingly visible LGBTQ+ community. Organizations like PFLAG Santa Rosa and Sonoma County Pride work tirelessly to provide support, advocacy, and vibrant annual celebrations, including a large Pride festival. The LGBTQ+ community in Santa Rosa is well-integrated across the city, making it a welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.

DAY 3: RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY

IN A TIME WHEN AUTOTUNED VOICES, REMIXED MELODIES, AND RAPPING YOUTUBERS RULE THE MUSIC SCENE, MUSICIAN JAMIE HANNAH’S VOICE LITERALLY SOARS ABOVE THE REST. No stranger to music, he’s given his talent a modern edge by mashing up his five-octave range, opera-trained voice with pop music – and it has more than worked.
Jamie’s Italian Aria series has become a social media phenomenon, racking up over 10 million views and 200 thousand new followers in just eight months. He uses his classical training as a countertenor to give his spin to songs like “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” “Like A Prayer,” “Hallelujah,” and more. This British-born artist has found his space in Los Angeles and is using his continued success as inspiration for a full album, scheduled to be released in Spring of 2026. Despite his social media star climb, he remains humble, grounded, and completely candid. Not only has he mixed classic opera with modern pop, but his personality is a mix of English manners and Los Angeles passion.
Jamie’s place in music was destiny, as he was born into a family of musicians. His first recollections of music come from family time.
My grandfather could hear a piece of music and immediately go to the piano and play it. I always thought that was such a beautiful thing. I remember that as a family, we would kind of get along and sing, and my sister would bring her clarinet, and I’d be the singer. My mom and dad always remind me about when we used to play hide and seek growing up. They could find me very quickly because I would always be the one singing behind a sofa. My method was that if they can’t see me, that means they can’t find me.
Jamie’s successful operatic covers of popular music in his signature style are not surprising. As a queer boy growing up, both styles had his heart. His classical training would give him the skill set to sing in any genre.
I went to go and study at the Royal College of Music, and there was always a little bit of a discrepancy because, despite studying Handel and Monteverdi, I would get home in the evenings, and I was doing the Ariana Grande covers. I was just kind of doing them both in tandem.
I think for my whole life, I’ve always been immersed in the classical music world. I was in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain for about 12 years. I was welcomed into the choral world and was able to sing repertoire from all around the world with loads of other singers. And I think there’s a beauty in building the foundations of being a vocalist. I think that is really stemmed from some of the classical greats of our past. I was like, okay, I want to be like Whitney Houston. I want to be like Frank Sinatra. And many of them were trained and had those foundations classically.
Covid was a turning point for Jamie. Though it was a bittersweet decision, it was time to leave England. He found his home in Los Angeles. Lockdown was just very tough. I got dropped from my music record label and I was just finding things to be quite stagnant. I was never going to give up on my career. I thought, where have I had glimmers of interest before in the past? And LA was one of them, and I knew nobody, but all of my perception of Americans was that they’re very optimistic. They’re very warmhearted. That’s what I’ve experienced is that in LA, it is this melting pot of people trying to really pursue their dreams and just kind of make something happen. That’s so inspiring to be around. There’s a real celebration of creativity and talent in this city, which is addictive.
SO I JUST HAD TO SAY TO MYSELF, IF PEOPLE WANT TO DATE ME, TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME. THIS IS WHO I AM, AND I’M GOING TO SHOW UP AS WHO I AM.”
Going into lockdown, Jamie was putting his original music out there but not getting the audience growth he was looking for. Knowing the power of social media, he released his take on Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” He was a literal overnight success, waking up the next day to over 1.2 million views and 7,000 comments. He would follow that viral hit up with another, his take on “I Will Always Love You.” Brides from around the world literally flew him out to their weddings to sing his version. Being a viral sensation was new to Jamie; not only did he have to deal with the pressures of going viral, but he had to adjust his love/hate relationship with social media.
Even my management at the time just said, “Great, you’ve gone viral, do it again.” It was kind of like, no one’s really caring for my mental health here. No one is looking out for what my actual purpose of doing this is. With the greatest respect to Instagram and TikTok and this content, which has built an audience, it is a long-term tool to really get to where you want to be. I am a songwriter. But for my original music to be heard around the world, it’s a necessary evil really. But I don’t think of it as a necessary evil anymore. I think of it as a way to connect with people. Behind every (like) there is a person with a story that wants to be told. I connect with every single person who messages me. Whether that’s a lady in her late seventies who comments that it’s the final few days of her life and I’ve really brought something, brought some emotion out of her, or whether it’s a 10-year-old who wants to start singing lessons. It is truly remarkable. I get so much out of that, and I focus on that rather than the metrics of what the industry kind of demands from me.
To say that Jamie’s five-octave range is impressive is an understatement. There is a unique beauty in his soaring notes. His voice plays with both the feminine and masculine energies. What has become a stunning part of his skill wasn’t always celebrated by the singer.
That was something I really, really struggled with for so long, because I think after training, I fought against it so much, and I jumped into more of a commercial side of things where I wasn’t utilizing that high register in my voice because I was scared nobody would want to date me. It really just came down to that. I threw all those years away. I suppose the silver lining of lockdown was that you had so much time to reflect on what mattered to you most. My purpose on this earth is
to perform and connect with people and sing. When I sing in that register, it just resonates with people on a different frequency and vibration. So I just had to say to myself, if people want to date me, take me or leave me. This is who I am, and I’m going to show up as who I am. Every gay boy had to do that at some point in their life, whether or not it’s a high voice or the way that they dress. It’s just standing in your truth and just saying, this is me, this is who I am. It’s not all butterflies and rainbows. I think to myself, it would be really nice to go on a date. I wonder why men don’t ask me out. Is that because I’m showing
myself as this kind of more feminine person online? I mean, people have made remarks in the past, oh, you’re so much straighter in person. People are always going to have an opinion of you, regardless. I think I’ve proven over the past 12 months that I’ll be able to find my community and people who want to be a part of it. I’m working through the personal struggle.
Another element that Jamie lives his truth in is his sobriety. Being sober has helped him live his life with clarity, with the good and the difficult, and is also instrumental in his musical journey.

I’m sober seven months. I’m a work in progress, and I’m going to be putting that into my original music, and I want people to be able to know that just because I’m a public figure or whatever, doesn’t mean I’m pristine.
There are plenty of sober opportunities here in LA and in London, and I’ve really jumped into them. I think just choosing to be sober was a way for me to ensure that I was going to be the best person on that stage, at my top potential. I mean, on a day-to-day basis, I’m singing for at least an hour.
It was hard initially being in LA and being a mid-20-year-old and wanting to go out and
have a good time. But I really had to put firm boundaries within myself because I want to be a performer, and I want to be a singer. And some things that are usual for a 20-year-old don’t align with how my voice needs to cooperate in a studio.
Jamie’s fan base goes beyond the LGBTQ community. His followers are diverse in age, sexuality, location, and class. But Jamie will always remain grounded in the queer community. As an immigrant, he has stood by our community in resisting the current political climate sweeping Southern California, affecting both the queer and immigrant communities.
I will always show up for my community. I’m friends with many kinds of other queer artists here in LA and in London and across the world, and I suppose it’s really nice to celebrate one another, no matter what genre they’re performing; it’s showcasing their creativity and their authenticity, and it should always be celebrated. I will always stand up for what’s right for my community.
Jamie continues to build his legacy, with his eyes on finishing his album. He knows the title, but is keeping close to the vest for now. He appreciates where his Italian Aria series has gotten him, but his true passion remains his ultimate goal.
Right now, what’s bringing me the most joy is hearing how people connect to these Italian arias. It happened in the past with my original music, but nowhere near on this scale. What I would love, which is in the works right now, is to have this album released and to really tour it across the world and be able to connect with audiences globally. I’ve had glimmers of this from doing covers and being hired to go to South Africa, Japan, Sweden, Italy, Mexico, and the USA, and people hiring me who don’t even speak English, but they’re hiring me for my voice. It blows my mind sometimes that I’ve been able to achieve that for my career. But what I would love to do is make my original music have that same impact; I’m confident I’m getting there. I’ve got about four songs I want to get to seven. It’s all coming into fruition.
There are a few themes running through it... many sober-related - resilience, overcoming, finding your strength, and authenticity. It’s just been such a pleasure to be able to be in LA with some of the top collaborators in the world. And most of the time I’m shooting, I’m a one-man band. I’m not with a record label, but I have faith in my talent and what I can bring. Sometimes you just shoot your shot, and nine times out of 10, you don’t get responses from people. But then sometimes you get that one response and you’re working with one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I’ve learned so much just to be audacious and to reach out. We’re all human; the worst they can do is not respond. That’s been kind of a great lesson through all of this as well. ■

SUMMER IS IN FULL FORCE, AND WITH IT COMES THE PERFECT EXCUSE TO EMBRACE THE VIBRANT, EFFERVESCENT, AND UTTERLY CHIC TRADITION OF THE ITALIAN APERITIVO. Forget heavy cocktails; this season is all about the spritz—a refreshing, low-alcohol masterpiece that’s as colorful as it is delicious. The spritz tradition dates back to the 19th century when Austro-Hungarian soldiers in Italy’s Veneto region found the local wines too strong and asked to have them “spritzed” with a splash of water. This simple act of dilution evolved over time, eventually incorporating sparkling wine and a variety of bitter liqueurs to create the beloved cocktail we know today.

IBIZA TURN THE BEAT AROUND

Positioned near a natural vortex, Ibiza’s regenerative auras attract open-minded, adventurous types, making it a favored destination for queer travelers for decades. When Metrosource’s Megan Venzin makes a trip there to attend the annual International Music Summit under unusual circumstances, she witnesses the party-laden island’s ability to heal and evolve.
THERE’S A JAGGED FORMATION THAT JUTS FROM THE IBERIAN SEA CALLED ES VEDRÁ, AND IT’S BELIEVED TO BE A SOURCE OF EXTRAORDINARY POWER. Perhaps that’s why we feel a distinct pick-me-up as we fly over the mystical rock… and that’s saying a lot.
The truth is, we’re exhausted. Is it unhinged to visit a raving paradise during the most immense throes of grief? Maybe. But then again, do we really have a choice? Tragedy has a way of rearing its ugly head when we least expect it, and no, the original plan did not include zipping directly from our father’s funeral to Ibiza for the International Music Summit (IMS). But to skip out on work or ditch a non-refundable travel plan were both strict no-gos in dad’s book, regardless of extenuating circumstances. So here we are, descending rapidly from a cruising altitude of 30,000 feet toward a place he no doubt would have loved.
Everyone knew him as “Party Marty” — fearless hero of the dancefloor, a diehard fan of house music and an enduring animator of
good vibes. That was before the heart attack that took him on an otherwise unremarkable Friday afternoon. We didn’t always see eye-toeye, but music always persisted in being our great equalizer. It’s impossible to feel whole without him, and yet a glimmer of joy persists to crack through as our visit to the nightlife mecca begins.
COMMUNITY IN CONFERENCE
The energy is buzzing when we arrive at The Mondrian Hotel on day one of IMS. Now in its 18th year, the annual conference is an important meeting place for electronic music industry thought leaders, artists and audiophiles alike. That it conveniently occurs during the opening week for Ibiza’s unmatched club season is no coincidence.
By day, IMS is a place to learn and educate. There’s a showroom filled with the latest in DJ tech overlooking the turquoise blue waters and a slew of stages where discussions on emerging
trends pave the way for sonic success over three expansive days of programming. At night though, Ibiza transforms. “Delegates” descend upon the adult playground where superstars such as Solomun kick-off high-profile residencies at Pacha and other clubland fixtures, while queer heroes the likes of Fat Tony keep the golden days of disco alive at Pikes Ibiza — a sprawling fun-house of a nightspot once frequented by the late icon George Michael and Grace Jones, among others. Dad and I hit a lot of shows and music festivals together over the past decade and change, but never anything quite like this.
During a panel titled Stand on the Rim of the Volcano and Do Your Dance, vogueing DJ sensation Patrick Mason brings stories from the Berlin ballroom scene in view, likening movement to a language and divulging its therapeutic impact on his life (this discussion takes place in at The Art of Areté, a room where yoga and meditation classes as well as conversations
on managing burnout and the potentials of microdosing also unfold.)
Later that night, Mason unleashes a highenergy set at the intimate Akasha venue tucked away in San Carlos on the island’s northeast edge. Under cascading lights in a “Boiler Room” style booth, Mason unleashes a barrage of house classics peppered with soulful samples and familiar pop vocals (hello, Madonna). His fast-twirling body and arms become blurred, but he never breaks tandem with the smooth and steady beat, activating moves surely inspired by formative Sundays spent at Berghain. We feel energized by his enthusiasm, accessing a place of release that we hardly thought possible given our personal circumstances.
EMPHASIS ON INCLUSION
Meanwhile, HE.SHE.THEY — an international electronic record label, fashion label, event series and brand consultancy focusing on diversity and inclusion — is tackling big topics in The Brave Space.
“IMS has delegates attending from all over the world and in positions of power so they need to be educated on issues that they might not be aware of,” says HE.SHE.THEY co-founder, Steven Braines. “Especially, with the polarization of politics and the alienation of minorities, we felt it was more important than ever to use our influence and presence to create a space where everyone can feel included and heard.” I think back to the pain in my father’s eyes when he told me about “Dan with the Fro”, a former football teammate from Indiana University Pennsylvania who committed suicide shortly after coming out as gay. Affirmative spaces like the one HE.SHE.THEY is cultivating were near impossible to find four decades ago, but it seems the tides are finally turning.
HE.SHE.THEY is putting in the work so those like dad’s fallen friend never feel alone. The programming the brand has curated — which includes nightly networking events and sessions with panelists from underrepresented groups in dance music — is changing the conference landscape, and beyond. “We believe this is breaking new ground for IMS,” Braines continues, “most mainstream music summits haven’t covered topics like we do — I can’t remember one on imposter syndrome or looking at breaking the class ceiling as topics.”
Another discussion presented by the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM) concerns
The Trans Inclusion Charter, a new initiative designed to create safer and fairer spaces for trans and non-binary people working in music and adjacent creative industries. One panelist — a lawyer and former aide during the Obama presidency who now performs under the moniker softchaos — sheds tears when the discussion turns toward artists who’ve recently been detained at US borders for the gender markers on their passports. The room weighs in on how to make travel less harrowing for those impacted by the current administration’s attacks while speakers listen and scribble down notes. It’s one of several first-of-their-kind talks to shine a light on diverse artist and creator segments.
“Being part of the first ever South Asian music panel at IMS felt like a breakthrough moment, and through our own events on the island, we’re proud to be part of a shift that centers diversity in all aspects from queer talent, South Asian voices, and underrepresented communities,” says Sunita Dhaliwal, co-founder and marketing director of The Everyday Agency, as well as founder of Days of Disco, the party brand behind some of Pikes Ibiza’s most popular nights. “The island is evolving, and this is just the beginning of something new.”
Braines hopes that offerings like HE.SHE. THEY’s continue to bolster Ibiza’s reputation as a safe, queer-friendly destination. “I think safe-r is all you can ever promise,” he explains. “I’ve been going to Ibiza for nearly 30 years though, and it’s always been somewhere I felt safe as a queer man.” That sense of security in addition to its world-class clubs, jaw-dropping beaches and stunning selection of international food leads Braines to sum up the holiday destination succinctly. “It’s an incredible place,” he says.
PURE MAGIC
And there’s perhaps no better way to experience Ibiza’s most “incredible” qualities than by spinning a debut set there. Bruce Loving aka Mr. Loving, a Texas-born, South African-based DJ and producer we connect with through HE.SHE.THEY’s Brave Connections Whatsapp group is on cloud nine after his own unexpected experience slinging cuts for a captivated crowd.
“I hopped on the open decks during the Jaguar Foundation’s Future Icons dinner and ended up playing an impromptu two-hour set of my signature genre blending technique
— Reconstructed Dance Music — for an amazing crowd of movers and shakers,” they explain excitedly. “It’s a bit nerve-wracking playing in front of industry peers but seeing people stay and dance until close was incredibly rewarding — a big vote of confidence for my artistic style.”
Of course, if DJing is outside of your skillset, the other best-known way to channel pure Ibiza magic is by attending IMS’s signature Dalt Vila closing party, a star-studded event at the Unesco World Heritage site with panoramic sea views. When we arrive by ferry, TSHA is ripping uptempo tracks with master selector Bradley Zero, offering a perfect soundtrack for sipping beers atop one of Europe’s oldest towns. The juxtaposition of futuristic beats slammin’ just footsteps from a 16th-century castle has us questioning the concept of time.
Eventually the sun sets on another successful edition of IMS as rising producer Deer Jade goes back-to-back with BBC Radio 1 host and legendary DJ, Pete Tong, while amapiano duo Major League DJz teams up with Hugel to dish out global sounds under a starry night sky.
We’ve boogied up quite an appetite, so we head down the winding cobblestone streets of the fortified town to grab a bite at Boodiou, a spot known for stellar craft cocktails and a rotating seasonal menu of French-inspired tapas spun with a Mediterranean flair.
“Boodiou’s identity is one of cosmopolitan hospitality,” says co-owner, Tony Comas. “It’s queer friendly nature is rooted in Ibiza’s culture of freedom and inclusion.” The restaurant, which opened in 2018, and features works by community artists including Nicolas Rubens and photographer Alexia felix, as well as musicfilled nights with resident DJ Hicham Leroi, is a staple of the rainbow-encrusted Calle de la Virgen — Ibiza’s bustling LGBTQ+ district.
“Boodiou means ‘oh my god’ in our local dialect in Camargue,” Comas explains, before sharing that he designs the cocktails using craft spirits from Bows Distillerie, his family-owned distillery located in the South of France.
Those are the same words that exit my mouth as we sip the Gilda Gimlet. Made from an infused Aròc vodka and a tomato, basil and black pepper cordial, the silky drops of olive oil that float on top dance on our tongue. When we dive into a plate of cured duck yolk and parsnips roasted to tender perfection, it becomes clear that chef Hadrien Rigat is the kind of culinary wizard who must be protected at all costs. My pops turned his head to small portions, but something tells me these bites, along with the
foie gras adorned and its pearly mustard seeds could have changed his tune. After an incredible meal, we sip shots of Boodiou’s housemade hierbas ibicencas — the island’s trusty digestif — before packing in ahead of what’s sure to be a lengthy day of travel.
When we wake up the next morning, we feel lighter. A few days of positive vibes and proof of an island waking up to a new level of inclusive potential gives us hope. As we pack our belongings a call comes through on our laptop with the caller ID “Dad”. Confused, we pick up, knowing his phone is stored in a drawer, thousands of miles away in an empty house. “Hello? Hello,
is that you?” we ask, static crackling on the line for a few seconds until the call drops.
There have been many supernatural sightings at Es Vedrá — UFOs, ghosts and meetings with ancestors are all aligned with the rock we first saw four days prior.
