The San Benito County Arts Council is offering Summer Art Camp, a great way for students to have fun and get creative while learning new artistic techniques in a condensed 3-day workshop format. Each workshop has two sessions, 10am-noon for 5-7 year olds and 1-3pm for 8-13 year olds. Students may register for the following workshops: Graffiti Art Camp, Learn about street art and create your own graffiti-inspired art by using chalk pastels, pencil, stencils and markers to create personally-styled works of art, July 11-13. Creating Clay from Scratch,
Campers will make their own ceramic pieces from start to finish by building clay from scratch, creating ceramic bowls and figures and painting their final pieces with acrylics, July 18-20. Rangers provide interpretive programs year-round. Between Memorial Day weekend and the end of September, Rangers and Docents conduct campfire programs on Saturday evening. Finally, Ranger-lead programs take place monthly throughout the park. Three-mile long Coyote Lake provides opportunities for power boating, jet-skiing, water skiing, sailing, canoeing/kayaking and fishing. Family picnic sites are located at numerous locations along the west shoreline. BBQ picnic facilities are located south of the Anglers Cove picnic area. The Bear and Mendoza Ranch sections of the park have 35 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails that wind through oak studded canyons; and on top of grassy ridgelines, providing spectacular views of southern Santa Clara Valley. MOUNT MADONNA COUNTY PARK 7850 Pole Line Road, Watsonville Mt. Madonna County Park, one of the most majestic of Santa Clara County's regional park and recreation areas. This 4,605 acre park is dominated by the redwood forest so characteristic of the Santa Cruz Mountain range. To the east, the park overlooks the Santa Clara Valley, to the west, Monterey Bay. As the slopes of Mt. Madonna descend toward the valley, the landscape changes from redwood forest to oak woodland, dense chaparral and grassy meadows. The healthcare industry is in a perpetual state of change, and we are well aware of these changes. Throughout the country, hospitals are seeing a decline in inpatient volume for various reasons; innovations in the pharmaceutical industry have produced drugs that are keeping patients with chronic illness healthier, surgeries and procedures that once required inpatient care are now done on an outpatient basis, patients aren’t hospitalized for illnesses like they had been in the past and there is an ongoing focus on preventative care and wellness. Across the country smaller hospitals are partnering with larger facilities to provide a broader array of services for their patients. Over the past few years in California alone, 17 district hospitals have affiliated or partnered with larger facilities or healthcare systems. Change can provide opportunity. As healthcare changes, so does the business model of Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and San Benito Health Care District to better serve our patients. We are reallocating resources to increase outpatient services such as community health centers, satellite laboratories and specialty centers. To succeed Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital is determined to be proactive and continually evaluate ways to contain costs, increase reimbursements, and develop new revenue. We intend to align or partner with a hospital or healthcare system to provide more specialists, create economies of scale and better streamline patient care services. Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital (SVMH) has been identified as a potential partner. As we begin negotiations the San Benito Health Care District and SVMH will evaluate and determine what opportunities are sustainable and beneficial for both entities to preserve and strengthen the health care services provided for our community. As we have throughout our history as a rural hospital, we continually adapt to the ever changing healthcare landscape.
