Mise en Place A Culinary Legacy Ready for Its Next Chapter

Mise en Place first opened its doors on Platt Street in 1986, introducing Tampa Bay to gourmet carry-out and catering under the direction of Maryann Ferenc and Chef Marty Blitz. Referred to by many as the “Silver Palate of Tampa Bay,” the concept quickly earned a loyal following. Early clients—many Southern hosts known for their hospitality— helped launch a celebrated catering business rooted in unforgettable gatherings.

In 1987, Mise en Place debuted its first dining room, offering a bold concept for the time: a daily changing menu and wine list. This adventurous spirit became the foundation of their identity and the origin of their tagline: “for the adventurous of palate and spirit.”

By 1992, the restaurant relocated to its now-iconic space on Grand Central and Kennedy, where it became a destination for memorable meals and milestone celebrations. After over three decades in that

space, the team is preparing to move to a new home in Ybor City this fall. The current location will remain open through October 31, with the new space debuting mid-November. METRO sat down with Maryann Ferenc to talk about the journey, challenges, and what’s ahead.

METRO: What are your proudest accomplishments?

MARYANN FERENC: Honestly—staying in business for 39 years! Marty and I still share the same passion and goals, and that’s rare. I’ve also had the honor of representing Tampa Bay in global tourism, serving on various boards and even speaking at an international meeting in Paris.

METRO: How has Tampa’s food scene changed since 1986?

FERENC: When we opened, there were no truly chef-driven independent restaurants in Tampa. Now, there’s a rich, diverse food culture across the region. We’ve gone from being pioneers to part of a thriving, dynamic dining community across both sides of the Bay.

METRO: What are the challenges of being a legacy restaurant today?

FERENC: It’s harder than ever to run a small business—especially in hospitality. From transportation to labor shortages, insurance, and rising occupancy costs, the margins keep shrinking. As a legacy restaurant, which we are so proud to be, the biggest challenge is evolving without losing your identity—staying fresh while staying true.

METRO: Why move Mise en Place to Ybor City?

FERENC: I’ve always said that a city isn’t great unless its historic district thrives. Ybor City is Tampa’s heart, and people like Darryl Shaw has really poured his soul and resources into it. I have known and respected him a long time. (His dad was our vet for over 20 years). Its time to become a part of making our historic district thrive!

METRO: What can guests expect at the new location?

FERENC: A lot of what people love about Mise—modern American cuisine, genuine hospitality, a thoughtful dynamic wine and cocktail program —will come with us, but the space will have fresh energy. Overlooking Jose Marti Park and the Streetcar stop—it’s modern, artful, and inspired!

METRO: Favorite local spots?

FERENC: I love The Corner Club in Seminole Heights it’s a true locals’ gem. Bamboozle, Byblos, and Kahwa are great. I’m also excited about the growing art scene in Ybor with the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts and Kress Contemporary. And I deeply admire the work of Feeding Tampa Bay.

Art Forward:

The Next Generation Shaping Tampa Bay’s Creative Future

Tampa Bay’s arts scene is thriving like never before, energized by a new generation of advocates, philanthropists, and cultural champions. Many of these under-45 supporters grew up tagging along to museum galas or symphony performances, watching parents or grandparents champion the arts. Today, they’re forging their own philanthropic paths—serving on young professionals’ boards, underwriting performances, or simply showing up and speaking out. Their passion and commitment ensure that Tampa Bay remains a vibrant hub of creativity and culture for generations to come.

METRO highlights seven inspiring individuals who embody this spirit, along with the four institutions they champion: the Tampa Museum of Art, The Dalí Museum, Tampa Arts Alliance and the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

A cornerstone of Tampa’s cultural fabric, the Tampa Museum of Art connects the community through a dynamic blend of classical antiquities, modern art, and communityfocused programming. Under the leadership of Dr. Michael Tomor, the Museum has strategically expanded its outreach to younger demographics through its NextGen program—a quarterly mixer with mission-driven programming for ages 21–40—as well as signature events like Art & Aces, Pride & Passion, and CITY: Fashion+Art+Culture. These initiatives are designed to engage young professionals socially, intellectually, and philanthropically.

“Younger supporters want to see a direct impact,” says Dr. Tomor. “They value transparency, relevance, and personal connection. Engaging them now ensures we’re building cultural stewards who will shape the arts landscape for decades to come.”

With Hillsborough County’s largest age demographic now between 20 and 36, Tomor emphasizes that their involvement is vital.“Their voices today will help sustain and evolve Tampa Bay’s arts tomorrow,” says Tomor.

Yvonne Marrullier

The Dalí Museum Development Director

Known internationally for housing the most comprehensive collection of Salvador Dalí’s work outside of Spain, The Dalí Museum also leads in education, innovation, and forward-thinking engagement strategies. Development Director Yvonne Marrullier has helped design pathways for younger supporters through programs like Innovation Labs, which merge business leadership and Dalí’s creative methodology. For high school students, the VolunTEEN initiative offers early arts engagement, while young adults can join museum committees like the Zodiac Committee to build leadership experience.

“Younger supporters are highly values-driven,” says Marrullier. “They give time and talent before treasure—and seek alignment with causes that resonate deeply.”

Their influence is already felt in programming, fundraising events, and strategic decision-making.

“Millennials and Gen Z supporters are helping us reimagine what museum involvement looks like. They’re collaborative, purpose-focused, and their input has led to innovative outreach and new community partnerships.”

With an upcoming campus expansion and capital campaign underway, The Dalí is leaning into this energy to shape a future as bold as the artist himself.

The Tampa Arts Alliance is building an ecosystem where artists, advocates, and cultural leaders across generations connect to ensure Tampa’s arts scene is both vibrant and equitable. Executive Director Michele Smith has made accessibility and intergenerational leadership central to the Alliance’s growth. Through Artist Salons, cross-industry partnerships, and the Artists & Advisors Committee, younger creatives and professionals are finding entry points into meaningful arts advocacy.

“It’s essential to empower the next generation now,” says Smith. “We’re facing declining public arts funding and a massive transfer of wealth over the next 20 years. We must engage emerging leaders who will shape policy and philanthropy in the decades ahead.” Smith’s philosophy blends openness with intentional structure. “We design programs that don’t require deep pockets or years of experience—just a passion for the arts,” Smith says. “Young leaders are bringing innovation, energy, and urgency to our work—and helps the organization stay in tune with the leading edge.”

Julie Britton

Straz Center for the Performing Arts Chief Development Officer

The Straz Center is the cultural anchor of Tampa’s performing arts scene, drawing more than 600,000 visitors annually for Broadway tours, music, opera, and educational programming. Chief Development Officer Julie Britton emphasizes that engaging younger supporters isn’t just strategic—it’s essential to ensure our service to our community for generations. Through initiatives like Club Straz, the Broadway Ball After Dark event, and a growing portfolio of professional development and donor engagement experiences, the Straz is cultivating the next wave of cultural patrons.

“Younger donors are often more interested in handson involvement” says Britton. “They rely on technology to learn about us and the impact of our programs.”

What’s more, she sees their presence as a cultural multiplier. “They look for transparency from organizations they support and they want to know more about what their gifts supports,” adds Britton. The Straz’s commitment to engage the next generation to develop audiences and donors includes a “mindset of constant re-invention, while remaining true to our mission.”

Young leaders and passionate supporters are breathing new life into Tampa Bay’s cultural scene—championing museums, performing arts, and local talent with vision, energy, and heart. Their support signals a critical evolution for the region’s cultural scene. As arts organizations look to the future, these younger voices are not just sustaining tradition ... they’re reimagining it.

Co-Chair, Arts & Aces | Advocate for Arts Education, Tampa Museum of Art

Gabrie Giammarco’s commitment to the arts is deeply rooted in family and fueled by a global perspective. Her early exposure to the arts—through local performances and community events—blossomed into something greater after formative summers studying in Florence and London, where she immersed herself in the world’s most iconic cultural institutions. “My family instilled in me a lasting respect for the arts and led me to what I now see as my calling—to protect the arts and ensure access for others in our community,” she says.

A lifelong dancer and alum of Berkeley Preparatory School’s celebrated arts programs, Giammarco’s creative background continues to inform her advocacy. Now back in Tampa Bay, she serves as Co-Chair of the Tampa

Museum of Art’s Arts & Aces, a signature fundraising event that directly supports youth and teen arts education. For Giammarco, the reward lies in impact: “Every dollar raised helps support and impact the Youth Council and Teen Programs. It’s my calling to help protect the arts and the access to arts in our community.”

To Giammarco, the arts are a powerful tool for connection. From showcasing Tampa’s rich Cuban and Latin heritage to driving cultural tourism and economic vitality, she sees art as a bridge that transcends language and social boundaries. Her message to young adults? “Philanthropy isn’t just for later in life. Giving your time, talents, or resources now builds the foundation for a creative, thriving future—and your voice is needed.”

Elle Chancey

Arts Advocate | Member, Art & Aces Committee, Tampa Museum of Art

For Elle Chancey, a deep appreciation for the arts runs in the family. Raised by design professionals Walt and Sandra Chancey—founders of Tampa’s renowned architecture and interior design firm, Chancey Design—Elle grew up immersed in conversations about form, space and aesthetics. Her parents’ longtime support of the Tampa Museum of Art, including their current role as co-chairs of the 39th annual Pavilion event, served as a model for arts philanthropy done with heart.

Now back in Tampa after a decade in Washington, DC and Virginia, Chancey is bringing that legacy full circle through her own contributions. As a member of TMA’s Art and Aces committee, she’s helping create meaningful

access to the arts for local youth. “That kind of access can be transformative,” she says. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to help nurture a thriving, inclusive arts scene—one that continues to grow and inspire.”

To Chancey, the arts are far more than an aesthetic experience—they’re a tool for connection, reflection, and cultural preservation. She’s particularly inspired by Tampa Bay’s Cuban and Latin influences, noting how the arts help keep those stories alive. “Supporting the arts isn’t just for older generations—it’s for anyone who believes in preserving beauty, promoting diverse voices, and shaping a future rooted in creativity.”

Marianne Biscoglia & Ryan Griffin

Member, The Dalí Guild | St. Petersburg Art Alliance Advocate Community Connector

For Marianne Biscoglia, supporting the arts is both a personal journey and a family tradition. Her father and stepmother, longtime members of The Dalí Guild, helped spark her deeper commitment to the arts later in life. “The Dalí opened my eyes to the cultural life of our community,” Biscoglia says. “It’s unique.” That introduction became a turning point, inspiring her to become more involved in St. Petersburg’s thriving arts scene.

A proud resident of St. Petersburg and known as “a city of the arts,” Marianne actively supports both The Dalí Museum and the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, where

her husband, Ryan Griffin, serves as Chair of the Board. The couple most recently co-chaired Sueños de Dalí, the museum’s iconic surrealist-themed fundraiser. For Biscoglia the relationships formed through these experiences—both personal and professional—are invaluable. “It’s about connection, celebration, and building lifelong friendships through a shared love of the arts.”

“Supporting the arts is supporting our community,” says Biscoglia. “It’s how we preserve what makes Tampa Bay so special—and how we shape the future for the next generation.”

With a family rooted in the arts—musicians, performers, painters, and more—Angelina Garcia’s creative foundation was built from an early age. Her passion has evolved into a dual identity: a classically trained dancer with nearly two decades of experience and a self-taught abstract visual artist working under her personal brand, ART x AMG. Today, her mission is clear: to elevate Tampa Bay’s creative culture and expand access and appreciation for local artists.

Garcia’s advocacy extends far beyond the studio. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Tampa Arts Alliance, is a Public Art Committee Member for the

Westshore Alliance, and belongs to multiple organizations supporting both artists and community causes. Whether donating original works to charitable events or volunteering with nonprofits, she remains a constant force for good in the local arts ecosystem.

For Garcia, supporting the arts is both personal and purposeful. “As one of the top cities for growth, now is the time to ensure the arts are a priority in our community,” she says. Her message to other young professionals? “Arts philanthropy isn’t reserved for older generations—it’s a movement that thrives with fresh energy, perspective, and passion.”

Angelina Garcia
Visual Artist | Arts Advocate | Board Member, Tampa Arts Alliance

For Keebler Straz, supporting the arts isn’t just a passion—it’s a continuation of a powerful family legacy. Raised in a household where community involvement and arts philanthropy were foundational values, Straz was introduced early to the transformative power of performance and cultural expression. “From a young age, my parents immersed me in performances and arts initiatives, shaping my understanding of its cultural value,” she says. Today, that early exposure has evolved into a personal commitment to ensuring the arts remain vital and accessible in Tampa Bay.

Whether through donations, volunteerism, or board service, Straz believes in supporting the arts in a full-circle way. What she finds most rewarding? “Seeing the wonder and joy on someone’s face—especially a first-time attendee—as they experience the arts. That’s when you truly see the impact.”

Now actively engaged in Tampa’s growing cultural landscape, Straz finds meaning in witnessing the city evolve into a thriving hub for creativity and connection. Her message to peers is clear: “Arts philanthropy isn’t about age—it’s about impact. It’s not just about leaving a legacy; it’s about living one.”

For Christopher Combie, the arts have always been a powerful force for connection and expression. Raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, he attended cultural performances at the Island Center and school productions at Good Hope School, where his passion for the arts was ignited. During high school, he witnessed the founding of the Caribbean Community Theatre, a civic arts institution that helped shape his view of the arts as a vital part of community life.

Today, Combie supports the arts in Tampa Bay through Opera Tampa board involvement, advocacy, and

philanthropy. He believes that the arts create more than beauty—they build empathy, foster dialogue, and invite deeper reflection. “So many of the new musical and operatic works are based on history or current events. They help us navigate our lived experiences,” Combie says.

In Tampa Bay, the arts also provide Combie with new connections and professional opportunities. “They help me meet like-minded individuals and expand our donor base,” he adds. His advice for peers who may not yet see themselves in the arts? “Be open. Try it again for the first time. Let yourself feel and be transported into the story.”

William & Dr. Rebecca Gibbons Straz Center Supporters

For William and Dr. Rebecca Gibbons, the arts have long been a shared passion—one rooted in childhood experiences and carried forward into their life together in Tampa Bay. Both raised in families that valued creativity and service, they were encouraged to participate in choirs, bands and theater from an early age. “That foundation shaped our passion for the arts,” William and Rebecca say. Rebecca even volunteered as an usher at the Straz Center during her time at the University of Tampa— an experience that took on new meaning when William surprised her by attending a performance early in their relationship.

Now active supporters of the Straz Center and Tampa

Bay’s performing arts scene, the Gibbonses give back through financial contributions, attendance, and advocacy— often bringing friends and family to performances. “One of the most rewarding parts is sharing the experience,” they note. Most recently, they gathered friends for a lively Clue Walking Mystery, showing how the arts can bring joy, community and creativity together.

For the Gibbonses, the arts are a way to stay connected—not only to each other, but to Tampa Bay’s cultural fabric. “We plant trees today to provide shade for tomorrow,” they say. “Starting our philanthropic journey now has become a meaningful part of our lives and we hope it helps sustain the arts for generations to come.”

Redefining Modern Architecture in Historic District

Strata Barn, Tampa, FL

Upon meeting architect, designer and community advocate, there was a sense that Tobin Green is as creative as he is passionate. As owner, design and builder of AADMIXX Design + Build Studio, Green is determined to “make new history.” We met at Late Start Coffee — a coffee shop/brewery in downtown Tampa, to discuss his latest project — a two unit townhome project in a pocket of historic Hyde Park also known as Dobyville. Green and his wife Bianca, built their own home nearly nine years ago directly in front of the project. Originally, the townhomes were going to be a single family home, but Tobin realized he had rushed the design and went back to the drawing board. Tobin says, “We wanted to create a design that might offer, even if ever so subtly, a nod to the historic nature of the neighborhood. Architecturally speaking, Dobyville was a simple neighborhood. After having the good fortune of speaking on numerous occasions with both living matriarchs and even descendants of Richard Doby himself, we realized that in order to truly honor the legacy here, we needed to offer suggestive details that didn’t try to emulate, but rather uplift.”

“We decided that we would approach these as our first design/build/sell projects,” says Green. “I hate the word developer, but ultimately this was our first mini development and we wore all the hats in the process, serving as the owner, architect, builder, interior designer, and listing agent.”

The design of the project was really driven by the gable roof design. “I did a deep dive on modern gable designs, and really leaned into it creating what I’ve come to call “bonnet eaves” around the front and back (north and south) facades. I really wanted to express the classic style metal roof material we selected too, so I turned the metal roofing/ siding material down the east and west, third-floor, facades and then wrapped it up under the front and back bonnet eaves. The material went from roofing material to siding.

It wound up being a pretty intricate installation detail, but our siding team crushed it and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

With a site size of 40’x65’ the project required some creative design and Green was up for the task. He made it a priority to give both units parking access from the alley and created a larger and smaller unit where the larger unit occupies the front of the structure and the smaller unit is in the backside. “They interlock without having to actually share any common spaces,” says Green. “We also went above and beyond to design the units in a way that established ultimate layers of privacy. No two bedrooms share walls between the units, and we designed the party walls with added layers of sound transmission details. We worked hard on the privacy factor and while it’s not a feature we can recoup in our bottom line, it helps us sleep better at night knowing our buyers will sleep better at night.”

To create cohesiveness of the Greens’ home and the townhomes, they sought out international street artist BASK to create a mural to tie the two projects together. “We designed this vertical line of windows for him to paint in between in a way that really played into a design detail on the front facade, and he nailed it,” says Green.

“We went really far out of our way to maximize the livability of these units, from strong consideration to natural light availability and views of downtown, to designing open floor plans with high ceilings,” says Green. “We spent a lot of time establishing functional, convenient parking layouts, and tons of storage for such a compact site. There are so many sneaky details that make the living experiences in these units special, even on a subconscious level. One that I love to point out is the 10 degree angle on the Unit 01 balconies. Unit 01 is the true corner unit and as such it has direct views towards downtown Tampa.”

“Modern architecture, when done right with integrity, honest materials, and a genuine design process, can live in beautiful harmony next to any architecture from any era. Good is good and as we push on into our next project in the neighborhood, we’re hoping that continuing to produce high quality, thoughtful designs will define our work and earn us favorable votes from newly instilled city of Tampa architectural review commission,” says Green. Not Another Farmhouse Renovation—A Modern And Elegant Reinvention

It began as a renovation and turned into a complete transformation down to the studs with a significant addition and separate guest house. Brought onboard to handle the design and renovation of the Safety Harbor home was Rob Bowen, Founder of Rob Bowen Design. The home was purchased by the husband just after college, but the home now needed to evolve with the growing family and lifestyle. Bowen recalls, “The vision was to honor the original spirit of the home while reimagining it as a timeless, modern estate. The home ultimately became nearly four times its original size, but every inch is intentional and emotionally connected to its origin.”

Bowen’s client are a young, vibrant couple with four children and a dog, so the home had to be durable, lowmaintenance and highly functional, but also beautiful. “Their personalities inspired the palette: smoky grays, crisp white marbles, bold geometry, and soft, flowing lines,” says Bowen. “Every space had to reflect both sophistication and playfulness—a forever home that grows with them.”

The home features rich, dark moody wood tones beautifully contrasted with crisp marble surfaces and warm bronze accents. One of the striking details of the home is the master bathroom created with a bold black and white motif with floating double sinks, graphic linear tile pattern on the floor and double shower heads with a overhead rain shower in the middle of the wet room.

The biggest client request from the couple was that the home feel timeless, but not boring. “They wanted elegance without sterility, boldness without trendiness,” Bowen says. “That balance shaped everything from material choices to spatial flow. It also pushed us to create architectural moments that felt collected and curated, rather than overly styled.”

As with any renovation, it was a challenge preserving the footprint of the original home, while expanding its scale. The home had to grow significantly, but still feel cohesive. “We used material continuity and thoughtful transitions to blend old and new seamlessly, so it reads as one architectural story, not a patched-together renovation,” says Bowen.

“We didn’t just renovate a house— we reimagined a legacy with unapologetic confidence, says designer, Rob Bowen. “It’s the kind of home that turns heads, and keeps you looking.”

The home’s character can be defined with the interplay of bold geometric shapes and organic, soft curves. From the bold lighting and soft furnishings, the home feels sculptural and grounded. “There’s a moment in the main living area where the marble, metal, and millwork intersect in a way that perfectly captures the spirit of the house— elegant, confident, and a little unexpected,” says Bowen.

Every area and room in the home has a purpose to serve. There is custom storage that is built seamlessly into the walls and each finish from the countertops to the cabinets were selected for their durability and cleanability.

The home has to stand up to daily life with four kids and the ability to entertain on a large scale. When we asked about what makes this space truly livable and not just beautiful, Bowen responds, “It’s the details behind the scenes, the way the house flows, the amount of natural light and the tactile warmth of the materials.” M

All-Inclusive. All-Adults. All Amazing.

Bungalows Key Largo

Ready to trade your to-do list for turquoise water and tropical drinks? Just a 6-hour drive from Tampa—or a quick hour from the Miami airport—Bungalows Key Largo is Florida’s only all-inclusive, adults-only resort, and it feels worlds away from reality.

From the moment we arrived, we were swept into vacation mode. A welcome rum punch and warm greeting from the valet team kicked things off, followed by a breezy golf cart tour of the lush, secluded property. With just 135 private bungalows—31 beachfront and the rest nestled in a botanical paradise—it’s intimate, peaceful, and oh-so-pretty.

Each bungalow is designed with a coastal, calming palette of soft neutrals

and ocean blues. Inside, a plush king bed, cozy seating area, and spa-like bathroom await. Outside, you’ll find your own tropical oasis with an open-air rain shower, deep soaking tub, and a private patio. There’s even a mini-fridge stocked with cold drinks and a Keurig for morning coffee on the lanai.

With no schedule to keep, we wandered to the Sunset Tiki Bar—home of breezy cocktails like rum runners and piña coladas. On the menu is a casual offering of burgers, salads, pizzas, and tropical juice pops. While everything is included, gratuities are appreciated.

Dining options are varied and delicious. Enjoy relaxed dining all day at Fish Tales, where breakfast and lunch are casual and dinner is a more refined experience with reservations required.

We loved the breakfast buffet (hello, selfserve mimosa and Bloody Mary bar!) and fresh seafood-forward dinners, including a standout lobster salad and crab cakes.

Sea Señor brings bold Mexican flavors and romantic vibes under the stars—plus a tempting tequila tasting. And for fine dining, Bogie & Bacall’s delivers an upscale, indulgent experience with dishes like wagyu steak and lobster tail, preceded by artfully crafted cocktails at Hemingway’s Bar. (Note: guests staying 4+ nights receive one complimentary dinner here; others pay a surcharge.)

During the day, we split our time between the serene Zen Pool, where shaded daybeds and chilled cocktails ruled, and the livelier Sunset Pool, with upbeat music and poolside service. For total pampering, we booked a massage at the Zen Spa, which also features a eucalyptus steam room and Himalayan salt therapy. Couples can even enjoy side-by-side massages in a private tiki hut overlooking Florida Bay.

Wellness lovers will appreciate daily yoga on Tranquility Beach, paddle boarding and kayaking in the calm waters, and a well-equipped Fitness Tiki Hut. Off-site adventures like fishing charters, snorkeling trips, and a romantic sunset cruise are easy to book through the concierge.

We met couples celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, and honeymoons, plus a group of Tampa girlfriends soaking up some sunshine while the dads held down the fort back in Tampa. Whether you’re toasting to something big—or just craving a break— Bungalows Key Largo is the kind of place that invites you to fully unplug. Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but we know it’s only a matter of time before we return to this beautiful slice of paradise. M

Lilac Unveils a New À La Carte Menu at the Tampa EDITION

Lilac, the Tampa EDITION’s Michelin-starred culinary jewel, introduces a new à la carte menu, inviting guests to explore the celebrated flavors of Chef John Fraser’s Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with newfound freedom and flexibility.

Located in the heart of Water Street Tampa, Lilac has quickly become one of the region’s most sought-after dining destinations. Known for its seasonal tasting menus, artful presentations, and world-class service, the restaurant now offers guests a more customizable way to experience its award-winning fare. While the tasting menu remains a

staple of the Lilac experience, the à la carte format brings greater flexibility to diners, allowing guests to explore signature dishes at their own pace. The newly launched à la carte menu marks an evolution in Lilac’s dining experience—offering a curated selection of standout dishes from the tasting menu alongside new creations that highlight the kitchen’s inventive approach and deep reverence for ingredient-driven cooking.

“We value our locals and those loyal fans of Lilac since the beginning and want to encourage more frequent visits via fresh, new ways to adventure through the menu,” says Chef John Fraser. “By evolving to include an à la

Scamp Grouper a la Plancha
Diver Scallop

carte option alongside our signature prix fixe allows the team more freedom to provide guests with new, personalized ways to experience Lilac and grow in a way that feels positive and ultimately more meaningful for our guests.”

We had the opportunity to try the new à la carte menu recently and it was indeed delicious. That evening Lilac’s Chef de Cuisine, Chef Jesus welcomed us and worked tirelessly at the tasting table to create works of art for the guests dining that evening. The service was impeccable and our server, Ryan coursed out our selections to a five-course meal. We were brought the delicious Milk Bread topped with heirloom tomatoes and thyme as a starter. The Diver Scallop as an appetizer was topped with cauliflower, pinenut, preserved lemon risotto and rosemary embers. For entrees, we had the Ora King Salmon and the Duck au Poivre. Both were cooked to perfection and the Duck was perhaps the best we’ve ever tasted. It was tender, juicy, and we were told its aged for 7 days. It was too tempting to not try one of the desserts, so we shared the Chocolate Walnut Cremeux — a dark chocolate sponge, milk chocolate ganache and a side of espresso gelato. Next time, we are going to try the Dark Chocolate Soufflé, which is a signature dish that takes 20 minutes to prepare.

With every dish crafted to showcase precision, seasonality, and flavor, the à la carte menu invites both loyal patrons and curious newcomers to enjoy Lilac in a more personal and equally exceptional way. M

A Taste of Elegance: Elliott Aster Blooms At The Vinoy

St. Petersburg’s culinary scene continues to thrive with the highly anticipated debut of Elliott Aster, the newest fine dining destination inside The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club. In partnership with Chef Lee Wolen, a James Beard Award nominee, and Chicago’s renowned Boka Restaurant Group, Elliott Aster brings modern sophistication and a seasonally inspired menu to one of Florida’s most iconic historic hotels.

Named after the lavender-hued native wildflower, Elliott Aster is poised to become a standout in the region. As the Vinoy’s signature restaurant, it offers a refined yet welcoming dining experience, where every detail — from the ambiance to the menu — is meticulously crafted to delight. The interiors, designed by the acclaimed Rockwell Group, seamlessly blend Mediterranean Revival architecture with modern elegance.

Deep green velvet banquettes, quartzite tables, custom millwork, and goldveined marble floors set the tone for an upscale yet comfortable experience. Vintage black-and-white photographs taken at the Vinoy and around St. Pete dot the walls, grounding the sleek space in the hotel’s storied past.

Elliott Aster’s menu evolves with the seasons, focused on the highest quality ingredients and impeccable technique. A visit to the front bar area or one of the cozy lounge tables is the perfect way to start — and we highly recommend one of their craft cocktails. The Espresso Martini hits all the right notes, while the Dirty Martini arrives with a side beaker nestled in ice, keeping each sip perfectly chilled.

From the Chef’s Daily Selection of Salumi to the Antipasti Bar — featuring whipped ricotta, marinated olives, artichoke dip, and eggplant spread — the opening courses are ideal for

Chef Lee Wolen Executive Chef/Partner

sharing. The Focaccia “Pull Apart” is a must: pillowy soft and drizzled with wildflower honey. The Burrata with marinated tomatoes and hazelnuts was among the best we’ve tasted — creamy, fresh, and full of flavor. The Chopped Salad, served family-style, combines Soppressata Piccante, pickled peppers, cherry tomatoes, and a red wine vinaigrette with bold balance.

Pasta is a highlight here, all made in-house. The Beef Cheek Tortelli and Ricotta Gnocchi were richly satisfying — deeply flavored and perfectly portioned. Entrées shine with Mediterranean flair: the Sea Bream is delicately prepared, and the Eggplant Lasagna delivers a hearty vegetarian option that’s full of character.

From the wood grill, don’t miss the Australian Wagyu Strip — seared to a tender medium rare and simply melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Pair it with Parmesan Fries served with black truffle aioli, or the silky Yukon Gold Potato Purée and Grilled Hen of the Woods Mushrooms for an indulgent finish.

Desserts are worth saving room for. The Olive Oil Torta, topped with whipped mascarpone and blueberries, is light yet decadent. The Salted Caramel & Coffee Budino offers a bold, silky sweetness, while the house-made Gelato — especially the espresso and pistachio — hits just the right note.

Elliott Aster is more than a restaurant — it’s a refined celebration of flavor, heritage, and culinary artistry. A meal here lingers in memory long after the last bite, marking a delicious new chapter in The Vinoy’s storied legacy. M
