The collective work of our coaches, teachers, parents, and community shows an unyielding commitment to our athletic program. Join me in building our school pride and support our athletes in 2021-2022. cOACH BIO Ms. Garrison (Coach G) is a General Science and Spanish Teacher with many years of coaching experience across various sports.

Coach G believes all students have leadership potential and works to promote team unity, accountability, grit, positivity, physical and mental strength, fortitude and honesty. The goal of the HHS Cheer Program is to not only physically and technically prepare the athletes for a host of cheer styles (of which the students may encounter at various colleges and universities), but also provide the soft skills needed to thrive and find success in their everyday lives as well!

BAND

director Curtis Bell was born, raised, and educated in the city of Camden, New Jersey. It was during his time in the public school system there where he developed a love for music while playing trumpet.

He then went on to attend and graduate from Fayetteville State University, where he received a music scholarship and his degree in Music Education K-12. Mr. Bell also received his Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. Mr. Bell has been a music educator for 23 years and brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, enthusiasm, and geniune concern for student growth through music. He believes that through participation in music, individuals are transformed into productive individuals that go on to lead meaningful lives.

Football

COACH BIO Coach Byrd has been the head football coach at Hopewell since 2018. A native of the west side of Charlotte, Coach Byrd was a three-sport athlete at West Mecklenberg High School, where he played football, baseball, and wrestled. He played for Rocky White, who was a huge influence in his life. He attended Averett University in Danville, VA, where he played linebacker for the Averett Cougars Coach Byrd credits many of his high school coaches as his reason for getting into coaching. “My high school coaches helped me dream beyond what I saw every day. They made me realize the world was bigger than the west side of Charlotte. Without their guidance and belief in me, my life would have gone another direction. It’s the entire reason I got into coaching. I want to give someone else that same help that I got. It’s bigger than wins and losses.”
