





AD Bourque was named Hopewell’s athletic director in July of 2017. He has brought with him an extensive educational and practical background in teaching and coaching. He graduated from The Sage College of Albany with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Physical Education. Bourque also recently completed his Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia-Irvine University. He is excited about the future for Hopewell.
“Academic and athletic success for every student-athlete is the ultimate goal of the athletic department at Hopewell High School,” says Athletic Director Brian Bourque.
“We want our student athletes to leave Hopewell better than when they arrived. It is our vision to provide student athletes with the opportunity to further their education opportunities through hard work and success not only on the field, but in the classroom as well, so they may be valuable contributors within the community and society one day in the future.”

Tracey M. Pickard, MSA; M.Ed PrincipalCoach Altamise Leath attended Walter Williams High School in Burlington, NC where she was named All-Conference Team each year. She continues to hold the school record for rebounds in a single game (24).
She played collegiate level basketball for North Carolina Central University, and graduated from Fayetteville State University with a B.A. in History. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education from UNCC.
She has coached high school basketball since 2005, leading teams to success in overall and conference play, and helped lead the team at E.E. Smith High School to a State Championship in 2020. This is her second
year as Head Coach of Women’s Basketball at Hopewell High School.
Her coaching philosophy is “secured in providing meaningful experience to my scholar athletes while developing their skills and values in life through sports. I aim to offer them opportunities for physical, social, emotional, and mental enrichment that will lead them to become a respectable and productive citizen.”
Coach Leath teaches AP Government & Politics, American History II, and AVID. She serves as an SGA Advisor, Beta Club Sponsor,and is a member of the School Improvement Team.
She is a proud mother to her 3 beautiful children, Jays’son, Jaysiah, and Altamise, Jr.
Assistant Coaches: Chris White, Tylesia Arrington
Coach Jaron Goodson is a native of Wilmington, NC and finished his high school career at Leesville Road HS in Raleigh, NC under Coach Darryl Robinson. He is a 2009 graduate of Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health and is currently working towards completing his masters in Sports Management and Administration from Liberty University. Goodson brings with him 10+ years of coaching experience at various levels. Most recently, Goodson spent 4 seasons as an assistant and head JV basketball coach down the road at West Charlotte High School. He was a part of the staff that led the team to the State Championship game in 2018-2019. Goodson spent 3 years at Cape Fear HS, one as varsity Head coach, and played an intricate role in turning the program around. He went 30-10 during his 2 seasons as the JV head coach. During his lone season as varsity head coach at Cape Fear, he took a program that had won a combined 4 games in 5 seasons and won 7 games under his leadership.
Before that, Goodson served 2 years under Coach Stackhouse at Westover MS in Fayetteville. He is also currently the head coach of 17U Team United. “I love the Hopewell community and felt that it was a perfect fit and an opportunity that I could not let pass. The Hopewell community is as hungry and passionate as I am about building successful men and putting a winning product on the basketball court. I am excited, and I look forward to collaborating with the staff and administration on how we can push our students to the next level.”
Varsity Assistant Coach: Chris White
Coach White is a Native of Charlotte, NC. He went to school at South Mecklenburg HS and graduated in 1988. He went on to attend college at North Carolina A & T State University. He graduated in 1992 with a BS degree in Recreation Administration. Coach White worked with Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation Department for 28 years. He is hardworking, loyal, respectful and dedicated, he puts his heart and soul into his players and the game. Coach White has coached basketball on many levels for over 25 years.
Coach Mayo-Tapp is a Health and PE Teacher at Hopewell. This is his 2nd year as Head Wrestling Coach.
Coach LaPointe was a state champion and AllAmerican track athlete and attended Syracuse University on a full track scholarship. She competed in Division I outdoor track, indoor track, and cross-country. She has been coaching at Hopewell since the spring of 2003 and has been the men’s and women’s head coach of cross-country, winter track, and spring track since 2004.
Coach Aneralla has a long history swimming and coaching at many different levels. Coach John started swimming competitively at age nine, ultimately earning an athletic scholarship to the University of Georgia. He has coached numerous summer league teams, SwimMac, SwimMac Masters, CSD Middle School as well as Davidson College. He also has competed in Master’s swimming competitions over the past few decades. He is looking forward to working with this year’s Titan swimmers helping them to achieve their goals for a successful season. Coach John and his wife Nancy have lived in the Birkdale community for the past 25 years. They have two grown children Amanda and Bennett.

Ms. Garrison (Coach G) is a General Science and Spanish Teacher with many years of coaching experience across various sports. Coach G believes all students have leadership potential and works to promote team unity, accountability, grit, positivity, physical and mental strength, fortitude and honesty. The goal of the HHS Cheer Program is to not only physically and technically prepare the athletes for a host of cheer styles (of which the students may encounter at various colleges and universities), but also provide the so skills needed to thrive and find success in their everyday lives as well!
