Virtual Reality (VR) epitomizes all new information technologies, such as multimedia technology, sensor technology, display technology, Internet technology, artificial intelligence technology, etc. VR is expected to become the next big computing platform. This technology is totally revolutionary. It can be used in so many different industries that could even reshape our existing lives. As a high level virtual reality international summit, World VR Forum has gathered European and global innovative application developers, great content and technology providers and experts in the VR industry to discuss the development of VR technology and contents. This summit will enhance content and technology exchanges at a global scale, integrate VR technology to more conventional industries, to develop innovative potentials and to inject more vitality into this industry. VR is a very hot topic at the moment in China. The year 2016 was regarded as the starting point for China’s VR industry. Although, as a late starter, China cannot be compared to those leading nations in science and technology, VR industry is still thriving in China. Barons of traditional smart device manufacturers, Internet corporates and content providers all set foot in this industry and are actively investing in it. For instance, Alibaba is developing VR online shopping ; Tencent is planning VR 006


movies ; Huawei has already released its VR headset. More importantly, a great deal of start-up companies also emerged and great attempts have been made in core component research, device manufactures, application developments, etc. Market of VR in China grows quite rapidly. China has shipped 300,000 VR devices in 2012, which rank Top 2 in the world, after the United States. Retailers can sell 1000 simplified VR headsets for smartphones and distribution channels can sell 10,000 of them every day in the Huangqiangbei commercial area in Shenzhen. According to market researcher CCID Consulting, VR market of China will reach 17.05 billion RMB with a 150% growth in 2017 and will marched into a relatively matured stage in 2020 with a market scale of 91.82 billion RMB and a rise by 125.3% CAGR. In this circumstance, Industry of Virtual Reality Alliance (IVRA) has been established in September 2016. Currently, IVRA has nearly 300 members including all major players in China’s VR industry, which includes companies of HTC, Goertek, Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, JD.com, Huawei, Sony, Intel, ARM, CCTV, Xinhua Network, Youku, iQiyi, Mojing. cn, etc and universities and research constitutions of Stanford University, University of Washington, Beihang University, Tsinghua Univerisity, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao 007


Tong University, Fudan University, China Academy of Sciences, China Academy of Engineering, etc. IVRA is dedicated to solving VR generic technologies, setting VR standards, developing VR applications and contents, accelerating VR international exchanges and cooperation, and promoting the development of VR industry globally. IVRA has announced the establishment of VR consortium standards, a VR content classification system and an internal patent pool. The first consortium standards which is generic specification for VR headsets has been released on 6 April, 2017 and will be put into implementation on 1 July, 2017. It is a pity that Secretary-General, Mr. Peng Wang and Vice Secretary- General, Mr. Chunmin Hu cannot come and see how grand this event is in person. Independent WebVR Using the web as a platform to share content but also for creative collaboration. Virtual reality experiences becomes meaningful only once they are consumed. Yet, today it becomes increasingly easy to find rich content but difficult to experience it properly. As users become more demanding on how efficiently it must be delivered then the platform to offer content becomes central. Will the key actors in that space today, the Oculus store, Viveport or Steam keep their place or will the giants of the web like Google, Mozilla, Samsung or Facebook who are heavily investing in a technology to radically change how VR content is consumed replace them?

SGO Advanced VR postproduction workflows : VR 3D stitch, VR 3D grading , VR colour grading and finishing. The workshop will be devoted to live picture shooting in 3D VR, from shooting to mastering camera rigs : 2D, 3D & mixed solutions, the minimum camera requirement for a good immersion experience in 3D VR. Learn how to deal with depth when utilizing 3D VR camera rigs, such as : Divergent, Stereo Paris, Lidar, And Slitcam. Acquire skills in camera layout, match camera colour, solving PARALAX, solving stitch areas with O.F., compositing 3D grading, colour grading and finishing.

Freelancer VR Language If you tell a story in VR as though you would in the film, you would soon meet problems, which would raise doubts and queries. It seems that applying the general audio-visual ‘rules’ achieved whilst watching a film or any other audio-visual content is not possible. One must take into consideration new factors which require ample research focused on studying and synthesizing a new language, a language that is specific and adequate to the VR medium.

The main section of the Festival brings together this year no less than 16 international VR experiences, out of which 12 are competing for the Imperial Crown. This is our highest distinction, whose name refers to five Swiss summits which form a crown at more than 4000 meters altitude. The shape and symbolism of this exquisite award are also our personal homage to Stanley Kubrick.

VR Cinema

The VR Cinema is a newborn within the WVRF Annual Summit. As with any infant, we want to feed him properly, so we handpicked no less than 50 exquisite videos to keep him in shape. The experiences are grouped into sessions, each session containing just the right amount of vitamins, proteins, minerals and adrenalin.

Game Zone

Video games are a major part of the Festival and of the VR market. Therefore, a play area dedicated entirely to entertainment will be offered to the general public. Whether families have VR at home or are still new to this technology, the Game Zone will offer you a unique experience of the best VR games of the year. 035
