On the facilities front the good news is that floodlighting of Gower No 1 could be starting as early as next week, while renovations of changing rooms will also begin shortly. Obviously that will create a few logistical challenges should we qualify for the nationalround, wherecompetitionwillcontinuethroughtoearlyDecember.
Welcome
Finally, Melville is supporting the New Zealand football Foundation’s World Cup Lotteryandseekingtosell100$20tickets.
While many competitions are coming to an end, Melville U17 boys have recently started contesting the Boys' Youth National League 2022 Northern Group A league, with a view towards finishing in the top two and making the national round. Our U17s are so far unbeaten and next face Auckland City at St Peter’s (The Cage) on Sunday September11,at2pm.
Melville’s midweek 4 1 away win over Eastern Suburbs was a real tonic after two previous away losses and we now stand on the cusp of quite a milestone for the club, havingnotcompetedatnationalleaguelevelsincethe1997 98summerseason
And off the pitch, today we are hosting a number of stakeholders and VIPs, which will provide an informal opportunitytodiscussfacilitydevelopmentatGowerPark
Earlier this month our club convened a Special General Meeting to discuss further facility development at Gower Park. The meeting adopted the July 2022 study prepared by Visitor Solutions Ltd, which addresses the need for changing facility upgrades, improved clubrooms/community facilities, boutique stadium seating, lighting and media facilities and delegated authority to myself and club patron Jamie Strange to engage with Hamilton City Council staff to seek in principle consent for a mediabox, communityfacility, andcoveredseatingatGowerPark.
But the really good news is that under Hamilton City Council’s latest development schedule, floodlighting of pitches 3, 4, and 5 could also be completed by next April. That will allow us incredible latitude for how we structure our matchdays, trainings andspecialevents.

Chairman's IIt’s a big day for Melville on two fronts. We host North Shore United needing a point to be sure of clinching top four status and qualification for the end of season national round (ahead ofouronefinalnorthernmatchawaytoWanderers).

We had some really good news for Olly Colloty this week, who has been named in the provisionalNZU20squad. It’s just reward for Olly whohashadanoutstandingseasontodate However, that news was tinged with a bit of frustration for a few of our other lads who can definitely count themselves unlucky to have not been included. National squad selections will always prompt much debate and I am obviously biased towards our Melville lads, but I have been a little perplexed with the selection and ID process for this U20 cycle and in particular the lack of attention that has been paid to performances in NRFL matches That said, I know the lads that missed out will respond in the right way and I’ve got no doubt they will force themselvesbackintothereckoning
After two positive but unrewarding performances against Western Springs and Auckland United I was absolutely delightedwithWednesdaynightswinatEasternSuburbs.
We return home after three tricky away games that were made even more challenging with our recent run of injuries.
Sam Says Today we welcome Valerio and his North Shore team. North Shore are obviously going through a transitional period at present, but they are a proud and historic club and I have no doubt they will be back at the top end of domestic football sooner rather than later. Their recent win over Takapuna should serve as a reminder that this will be far fromaneasygametoday Enjoythematchandhopefully, wecangetthejobdone.
It was a performance that encapsulated everything that has been good about us as a group this season, energy and discipline when defending, skill and dynamism when attackingandplentyofspiritandtogethernessthroughout Wednesday’s win has put us in a really strong position to make the top four but we will most defiantly not be taking today’s game lightly and the message to the lads will be all aboutmaintainingfocusandstandards.

Melville on the home straight
Super Melville took a significant step towards securing a berth in the end of season national league with an inspiring 4 1 away win over Chatham Cup finalists Eastern Suburbs.
From a Josh Galletly free kick on the right, Lawrence hit the post and Searle was on handtosteerthereboundhome.
Victory leaves Melville sitting in fourth place in the northern premier league, 5 points ahead of fifth placed Wanderers, ahead of a home game against bottom placed North ShoreUnitedonSaturday A point in that match would put Melville in an unassailable position (on goal difference)aheadofthefinalroundmatchawaytoWanderersonSeptember3
Lawrence iced the win with a nice finish, following a scything run up the middle by substituteDylanWilliams, whowasmakinghisfirstteamdebut.
The floodlights at Ngahue Reserve were brighter than those on Gower No 2, but not by much However, it proved to be anything but a night of gloom as Melville raced to anearly2 0lead. Oliver Colloty gave Melville a 21st minute lead after a brief bout of pinball in the Suburbs area, while Harry Rose made it 2 0 three minutes later, after running onto an immaculatethroughballfromRyenLawrence. Suburbs pulled a goal back after Melville failed to clear a corner before half time, but LukeSearlerestoredthetwogoalmargin.
