MELVILLE ACADEMY FEEDBACK 2022
Having the same coach for training and games would be so much more beneficial. Making sure that they get their individual feedback, my son has been at the academy for 2 years and has never received any of the individual reports that are part of the program kids got v little instructions in games, no feedback when coming off and going back on, After games, always told they played great when their were areas that could have improved weekly . I get positive is good but kids knew they need to improve in areas . No player feedback and even in mid year report no guidance given on what to improve. Feel younger coaches need more support from other staff at Melville. Change of coach for a side , who could see improvement in some players already with advice from the coach. Also at rose bowl, coach say nothing at all in one of the game, was on phone and drinking energy drink , looked v unprofessional.
I thought the field the team had to practise and play home games on was of a low standard. The pitch that the girls got to play on was terrible undulating potholes embarrassing compared to the grounds in Auckland Pitch quite poor to play on for all but top teams. Facilities need an upgrade (especially club room end)
Not enough 'staff'. Needed more coaches, managers and officials Receipts for payments would be appreciated Communication during the season could be improved. Maybe a team manager required A welcome letter would be great outlining the basics of fees, kit (what's provided & how often it's replaced & who to contact when it needs replacing cause your child has grown) & points of contact within the club would be helpful. The use of Facebook does work but is not friendly to those preferring not to be on it. A dedicated sports admin app might be more appropriate. This was ok, but communication earlier on having 2 teams would have been good, i would like to know early what's happening next year re teams, extra player joining mid year ?, why are their trials at start of year if player join mid year, means players have longer on sideline
There were games that were called off but players were available but ended in a default from Melville according to the league table. This indicates that why the game was called off was not communicated. The Facebook group works well and we are told well in advance of events which is appreciated Found it quite frustrating finding out where my child was playing with only 1-2 days notice a lot of the time (just difficult when have other children and games are not local). Difficult with a large squad to organize I know but perhaps either definitive teams or help to organize teams earlier. At times the information has taken a while to get through. Parents want to book accomodation and plan their weekends so a bit more notice on away games and tournaments would be awesome.
No i dont think it was, when paying this amount of money, i expect a higher standard of coaching , my son got better coaching at his old club from parents. Also think all kids should get new kit each year, we are playing the same as everyone else and unfair to spend more money on kit
What other suggestions for improvement would you like to make Looking forward to having my son play in the Auckland league next year, it’s a great opportunity. Keen to see more girls teams, U12 girls would be really good when it’s possible to bring in. This is definitely the premier Academy in the Waikato/BOP region, thanks for the opportunity to be involved. Too big a job for Tarena alone, cool having help from Antonia and other girls and the dad's Rob and Shane lots of parents would also step up and help more if we knew what she would like help with
I felt when i question staff re the coaching i didnt get a good response , i think paying 1000 dollars i am entitled to ask if my son is unhappy at training and see myself the level of coaching at the games. When it volunteers i wont ask but you guys are getting paid Confirm what you are trying to be. Be transparent about it. Then stick to your convictions. By that I mean if you are wanting to be an academy for kids who are more talented than average, have a love for the game of football and want to learn and grow with likeminded kids. Don’t dilute that by having kids that are not (or even close to) that level. That might mean making some tough calls, but for the betterment of all the others, while disappointing a few. If you are a club encouraging everyone and anyone to play that is also fine but be transparent, so kids and their families can make the choice that they think is best. Better pitches and refs for games. Minimum for me is all teams should have a dedicated coach, manager and ref/AR. There's too much work with too few 'staff' at the moment. We have U14 boy and U14 girl, but only one option above. More classroom-style learning in holiday camp and on rainy training nights - nutrition, sports physiology and psychology, tactics, sportsmanship, refereeing/rules. More 1 on 1 reflection and mentoring Feedback to the parents on how things are progressing - is our continued investment in our child's football in this program worthwhile For the girls, more consistency in team makeup would be appreciated. Not knowing where our daughter would be playing each week added to the stress of an already stressful winter. This would also add to the player enjoyment I think. I do recognise there are some benefits to moving players around I also have a son in u12s. I feel the year has had a lot of positives… and my boys love being a part of Melville. They enjoy the trainings and relationships with the coaches. I feel there could be room for improvement within the selection process of the kids. There is quite a mixture of abilities throughout some of the teams. I don’t believe that once you have been offered a place at the academy that it should be “a job for life”. The boys should have to work hard and show the right attitude to be invited back the next year. Making sure that the individual feedback is actually delivered. If possible sessions on injury prevention, nutrition would be beneficial
More regular communication outside football eg nutrition, sleep, individual training. Our coach rarely came to do the after match speech, which would have been ok, but it wasn’t communicated and we scrambled each week for someone to do on behalf of the team. It would also be helpful to have a team manager to organise the after match, which uniform to wear, etc. otherwise the boys had fun and loved playing for the team. 10/20/2022 07:44 PM Just better communication and systems put in place, our team appointed a manager this year to try to take the load off our coach because she was trying to cover two teams and really her job should be just to focus on coaching not trying to sort out uniforms and other admin type questions etc. Our manager however struggled to know who to ask questions to within the club, so maybe if managers are appointed to a team they are supported better and also provided with further information. Also could every team be provided the basics, like a first aid kit, maybe goalie gloves & top (in case we don't have a goalie coming with their own gear that day) it's sadly the lack of these little things that sometimes makes you questions the fees and what we're paying for. More coaches so that Tarena can have more time to focus on developing the programme There needs to be more info availalbe for families when they are looking at the club, fees, expectations, training dates.We had no idea of any of this. It would be nice if the girls were not bumped to other pitches for the boys to always have the better ones
Announcement for team should be made earlier in the week. Trainings on Saturday are hard to get to as my son is working. Clear outline of what's next as child ages out of their current team
