New Store

We’re changing the way you shop for a mattress.

Big Thanks!

May was a time of new beginnings and being thankful—with a new baby at home and a new store that’s just opened on the east side! In regards to the store, Jeff and I are thrilled to be able to share our second location with you. We are so grateful to all of our customers who’ve made it possible for us to open it. Thank you for all of your referrals, positive reviews, and comments that have given us the opportunity to reach more customers and make a greater difference! Looking back, it was three years ago this month that Jeff and I bought the company from the previous owner and opened up this new location. Before, at Gardner’s Bedrooms, I had worked for 12 years, gaining experience and learning the trade. We were nervous when we bought the store, knowing that we could be successful but having a lot of questions. The lease was up, so we were moving all of the inventory to the new store, and that meant changes bigger

than just signing over the company. Since then, we’ve become more confident and have watched our sales increase every year. We’ve gained a large customer base and have helped many people into beds that are sure to bring them a better night’s rest. Today, Jeff and I have made many changes, particularly in eliminating categories that weren’t able to meet enough of our customers’ needs. We’ve slimmed down our inventory of bedroom sets to make more room for mattresses. These are units we know will help bring our customers better health through a full and comfortable night’s sleep. Of course, Gardner’s has always been focused on helping people sleep, but in these last few years, we’ve become Published by The Newsletter Pro • www.thenewsletterpro.com

June 2014 even more dialed in. We even have a “Try Before You Buy” Dream Room—the only one of its kind on the East Coast—where customers can try out a mattress before they buy it. We’ve also published multiple guidebooks that help potential clients find the right mattress for them. It is our goal to make the process smooth and easy. If you know someone who is in need of a good night’s sleep, direct them to Gardner’s! Our new location is basically a smaller version of our current store. While it might have a little less inventory, it has all the best sellers of the main store, as well as a Dream Room. Having a location on the east side of Lancaster allows us to reach potential clients that we haven’t had much contact with previously. We’ll help even more of Lancaster County wake up happy and pain free every morning! With our new store come three new employees who are excited to join the Gardner’s team. Scott and Lou are the new sleep consultants and Brian is fitting in nicely on the delivery team. Like us, they see the importance of selling mattresses the right way. Unlike other stores with sleazy and confusing

marketing campaigns, our outlook is completely different. While we opened the new store over Memorial Day weekend, our grand opening is coming up at the end of June and will go until the Fourth of July weekend. If you’re looking to check it out, the store is located at 2481 Lincoln Hwy East, Lancaster, in the Rockvale Outlets area, near Chick-fil-A. Thank you again to all of those who’ve helped make this new opportunity possible! All of us at Gardner’s certainly look forward to having you drop by!

Nutrition Nuggets by Lindsay McClure, RD

Double Trouble: Nutrition... on Maternity Leave!

Hey there, Ben here. Lindsay is on maternity leave from Nutrition Nuggets this month. (See employee spotlight here for a picture of the new little one!) This month, you’re stuck with me for nutrition advice.

Who am I kidding, let’s be bad this month. One of my guilty pleasures in life are Double Stuf Oreo cookies. Everyone who really knows me, knows that. And now you do. In fact, local mattress manufacturer, Serta, gave me a package of Mega Stuf Oreos as a “new dad” gift before my son was born!

In my devious Oreo recipe research for this column (Lindsay will hate me when she reads this), I came across a website dedicated to Oreo recipes. Oh yeah, it’s as awesome as it sounds. Head over to www.oreo.com/recipes and you’ll see all kinds of nutritious, er, gut-busting blueprints for Oreo cookie balls, milkshakes, parfaits, frozen desserts, pies, cheesecakes and more. I immediately bookmarked the page. While I didn’t test any of them out (no time with the new kid), I will be subtly reminding Lindsay that they exist. And if you or someone you love, appreciates Oreos like I do, go ahead and indulge! I’d love to hear about what you made!

Father’s Day Fun!

Do you feel like Father’s Day is the unnoticed holiday? Mother’s Day is all brunch and roses and dads, well it’s hard to plan for dads. Here is something that will have the dad in your life loving his day and will really get the kids involved with something they’ll be excited about! So, here is the plan: It begins with competition between kids and their dad (naturally, mom will be referee). What man doesn’t salivate when they get to compete? They will basically compete in games that could change every year (to keep with the ages and interests of the kids) and the winner will get a trophy! BUT, they only get the trophy for the year. The next year they will have to give it to the next winner to proudly display in their home. I recommend getting a sweet trophy and engraving something like “Who’s Your Daddy Now?!” on it. If your kids are all young, the games need to be fairly easy so that Dad doesn’t destroy them. But they can get harder and more fun as the kids get older! For example: a game of football, skeet shooting, golf or basketball. Make sure you throw in some

stuff that will be out of Dad’s wheelhouse, but might be fun for your girls! I’m thinking dance competition, karaoke, juggling, Hula Hooping, drawing, cooking, high heel walking, trivia questions, board games, name that tune, and so on. Try to think of the skills and interests of all of your children so that they can shine in the different competitions. After the games, you can award the winner with the trophy (to keep for the year) and you could pick up some small prizes for everyone else. Then BBQ, open Father’s Day presents, and call it a day—a great day! This is sure to leave the dad in your life feeling thoroughly taken care of, and not at all paling in comparison to the mom in the house!

A Partnership FROM DAY ONE!

Check Out Local Business:

You might say that Gardner’s and Tony have a particular bond that was formed 25 years ago, back when Gardner’s first opened. At the time, Tony was eighteen and looking for his first sales job. He got it with Jim, the company’s founder, and became Jim’s first employee. He ended up staying for five years, and during that time, learned quite a bit about how to treat a customer. As Tony says, Jim taught him about caring for customers and putting their needs before the sale. He wanted to educate people about what they were buying, so that they’d leave with not only a great piece of furniture, but with peace of mind as well. Today, Tony says that legacy lives on with Ben and Jeff and their staff, inspiring him to continue working with Gardner’s. Tony’s line of work is in design. Think Ink Plus, the business he started about 15 years ago, has grown from screen printing to embroidery, shirts, signs, banners, vehicle graphics, and more. Basically, if you can dream it and describe it, he’ll find a way to do it. Like Gardner’s, Think Ink Plus is a small but growing company. Additionally, Tony and his staff are always looking for ways to put the customer first. For Tony, it is a pleasure to work with customers and to partner with them in their business. Being able to create personal relationships that allow him to better help companies advertise is a really special part of his job. Finally, Tony loves that his company can help groups by donating or discounting products for them. Churches, especially, are a group they help out frequently, as well as Cystic Fibrosis or other charity efforts. “Honestly,” Tony says, “if I wasn’t able to help other people with this job, I wouldn’t be doing it.” That’s what makes his company so special. As for Tony’s spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with his son. At 21 years old and just as independent as Tony, his son not taking on the family business but is instead pursuing a degree in English to become a teacher. “He’s a huge blessing in my life,” Tony says. It sounds like there are quite a lot of blessings to go around when it comes to Tony, and that’s why Think Ink Plus is this month’s company spotlight!

Review of the Month

Introducing

Julian

A New Face in the Family! A new store isn’t the only piece of exciting news around here! Ben and his wife, Lindsay, have just welcomed their second baby, Julian James, into the family! Julian was born on May 6, and came into the world at 7 pounds, 4 ounces, 21 inches long. According to Ben, Lindsay did great and is just enjoying being home with their two kiddos. At five, their daughter, Amelia, is an enthusiastic helper. She’s always willing to bring her folks wipes, diapers, or onesies, and loves getting to hold her little brother. She’s wanted to be a big sister for a very long time, and has actually asked for a little brother, a little sister, a dog, and a cat every year for Christmas. Ben and Lindsay haven’t decided if they’ll be adding a fifth member to their family anytime soon or not, but for now, Amelia’s pleased to have at least one new baby in the mix. As for Lindsay, she’s just happy to have time with the kids. Having worked for 13 or 14 years before they had Amelia, she’s appreciating some much-deserved time off. In the fall, she’s hoping to start working at a job that uses her passion for nutrition, so that will be a fun and exciting change when it comes. As for Ben, despite the fact that little Julian’s room is decorated with animals, he’s looking forward to having a future baseball player in the house. Since he doesn’t really have a favorite team, he doesn’t care which major league team picks Julian up—he’ll root for whatever one Julian joins. This summer, the family is looking forward to visiting their typical vacation getaway— Cape May, New Jersey—but for now, they’re simply living in the moment and enjoying their beautiful family!
