Wake Up to Spring! Ah, spring. The grass is getting greener, the sun is shining longer, and the flowers are bursting through the soil. The spring sunshine brings with it the sweet promise of summer—but it also reveals a whole lot of winter clutter (when did the blinds get so dusty?!). Before you know it, you’re sifting through your storage closet, in search of your forgotten feather duster and cracking down on your cleaning. But why? Spring sweeps through like a breath of fresh air after a long and suffocating winter. It’s the symbolic season of renewal—and that includes your cleaning habits. But while “spring cleaning” has become nothing more than an ingrained Western tradition, some studies show that our desire to clean house is more biological than it is traditional. Short, dreary winter days cause our bodies to produce more melatonin (the sleep inducing hormone), which effectively puts us into a serious stupor. Spring means more sunshine and longer days, which means our bodies stop producing melatonin (in what feels like excessive amounts) and start stocking up on Vitamin D. If anything, spring cleaning is just our way of waking up after a winter-induced coma.

realistic), and you’ll be amazed at how good your place looks.

Hack Your Hair

Okay, you don’t have to chop it off or go crazy, but a haircut or trim will add a springy pep to your step. Just consider it another necessity for your spring cleaning checklist.

Clean Your Cosmetics

Ladies, cleaning your cosmetic bag is a sweet and simple task that many women forget to complete. Take the time to go through your makeup and throw out any items that are unused, old, or just plain gross. Are you really going to wear that glitter eye shadow from Halloween? Chuck it! (continued on pg. 2)

But cleaning your blinds isn’t the only way to celebrate spring (thank goodness!). Sure, your home could use a once-over—but, let’s face it, so could your life! Spring is all about renewal; so follow these seven tips to make the most of spring and put your newfound energy to good use.

Freshen Your Finances

Make it a point to organize your finances this spring. Balance those checkbooks, organize receipts, and nail down a budgeting system that works. File your financial papers in actual folders, not on top of your desk or kitchen counter.

Declutter Your Domain

Deep cleaning is satisfying, but decluttering is even better. Go through your home, room by room, and organize! Throw away or donate any broken or unused objects. Be honest with yourself (that means being Published by The Newsletter Pro • www.thenewsletterpro.com

Healthy Easter Eatin

If you’re like me, and have multiple families to visit, you may be sitting down to more than one Easter meal this year. You can still enjoy those family favorites without gorging. Try to watch your portion sizes if you know you’ll be eating another large meal later in the day. A standard serving of meat is the size of the palm of your hand (without the fingers) and a serving of starchy vegetables

Disinfect Your Desk

Don’t forget about your workspace, whether at home or at the office (or both)! File papers away, put updated photos in your frames (like you’ve been meaning to do since 1997), and scrub your desk, keyboard, and phone.

Clear Your Computer

Delete old files, or store them properly if you can’t part with them just yet. Most importantly, delete those emails. Remember, there’s always something you can do with an email: trash it, file it, or read/reply to it. There’s no reason emails should be sitting in your inbox unread or unanswered. The sooner you deal with them, the better.

Apple Pie-ify

is roughly the size of a baseball. Another tip to prevent overeating is to keep the serving dishes off of the table. It is much harder to leave a conversation to fill up a second plate. Decorate the table with flowers or other seasonal items to help the table appear more full and prevent serving dishes from making their way to the table. And if you do find that you’ve indulged too much this Easter, a post-meal walk is a great way to spend time with loved

OUR “IN” WITH

Serta’s Superman

Check Out Local Business: When it comes to mattresses, we’re your first stop, but even the pros have experts too! One of our favorite mattress masters is the sales manager of Serta Mattress, James Moquin. Jim is part of an amazing company that produces one of the best night’s sleep out there. On a personal note, their local facility stands as a Lancaster homegrown factory. One of the original Serta factories, the Lancaster facility was opened in the 1930s. While the tech may have changed over the decades, not much else has! Every mattress that comes out of its doors is handmade using American-made products to bring you the best beds in the biz. Serta is known for their genuine dedication to quality, and all of their products are created and sold based on in-depth customer research. Even top consumer reporting magazines have ranked Serta mattresses at the top of the game (specifically the iSeries Applause). Their consistency and excellence makes it easy to trust the products Jim brings into our store. Jim started with the company up in Massachusetts, and has been a part of Serta’s amazing staff for over 10 years, but he’s not just selling us the company line! About a year or so ago, he moved here to Lancaster and set up his own home in our community. Still, he decided to keep his place up north as well and now has two Serta mattresses to sleep on (admittedly, his favorite is the iSeries Hybrid).

We feel really lucky to have someone like Jim as our contact with a great company like Serta. We’re even luckier to be able to say that we’ve even sold him an item or two! To make matters just a bit better, Jim was just as blown away by our service as we are with his. “They literally rolled out the red carpet when they delivered my purchase. They put on booties to keep my carpet clean,” he said, “and even gave me a gift package with literature, chocolates, and some free pens to get me started. Shopping for a mattress isn’t really thought of as an enjoyable activity, but shopping at Gardner’s is a totally different experience and makes this a fun thing to do.” Serta is a wonderful company to work with for those of us here at Gardner’s Mattress and More, and we’re proud that they are a part of our community and product line!
