DAL MESSAGGIO DI PAPA FRANCESCO FROM POPE FRANCIS MESSAGE TO THE MEETING
Nei mesi scorsi abbiamo sperimentato quella dimensione dello stupore che assume la forma della compassione in presenza della sofferenza, della fragilità, della precarietà dell’esistenza. Questo nobile sentimento umano ha spinto dottori e infermieri ad affrontare la grave sfida del Coronavirus con strenua dedizione e ammirevole impegno.
In recent months we have experienced that dimension of wonder that assumes the form of compassion in the presence of suffering, of the fragility and vulnerability of existence. This noble human sentiment drove doctors and nurses to face the grave challenge of the coronavirus with strenuous dedication and admirable commitment.
Lo stesso sentimento ricco di affetto per i propri studenti ha permesso a molti insegnanti di accogliere la fatica della didattica a distanza, assicurando la conclusione dell’anno scolastico. E ugualmente ha consentito a tanti di ritrovare nei volti e nella presenza dei familiari la forza per affrontare disagi e fatiche. In questo senso, il tema del prossimo Meeting costituisce un potente richiamo a calarsi nelle profondità del cuore umano attraverso la corda dello stupore.
The same sentiment, rich in affection for their students, permitted many teachers to face the difficulties of distance learning, ensuring the conclusion of the school year. Likewise it enabled many people to find, in the faces and presence of their relatives, the strength to face hardships and fatigue. In this sense, the theme of the upcoming Meeting constitutes a powerful call to descend into the depths of the human heart through the rope of wonder.
Come non provare un sentimento originario di meraviglia davanti allo spettacolo di un paesaggio di montagna, o ascoltando musiche che fanno vibrare l’anima, o semplicemente di fronte all’esistenza di chi ci ama e al dono del creato? Lo stupore è davvero la strada per cogliere i segni del sublime, cioè di quel Mistero che costituisce la radice e il fondamento di tutte le cose. PAPA FRANCESCO
How can one not feel a basic sense of wonder before the spectacle of a mountain landscape, or listening to music that moves the soul, or simply when faced with the existence of one who loves us and the gift of creation? Amazement is truly the way to grasp the signs of the sublime; that is, of that Mystery which constitutes the root and foundation of all things.

Questa quarantunesima edizione del Meeting si svolge mentre la terribile pandemia semina sofferenze e morte a ogni latitudine, facendo irruzione nella nostra storia e costringendoci a un rallentamento, purtroppo con pesanti conseguenze economiche e sociali. Siamo ora chiamati a ripartire con maggiore qualità, con più forte coscienza di comunità, con un nuovo sviluppo che rispetti la natura e superi le discriminazioni sociali. Gli organizzatori del Meeting ne hanno manifestato consapevolezza nel confermare il programma di iniziative. Queste, ancora una volta, accresceranno il patrimonio culturale e le occasioni di confronto nel Paese, e rappresenteranno per le tante comunità di riferimento un momento importante di fraternità e di crescita. (…) Il tema di quest’anno - “Privi di meraviglia restiamo sordi al sublime” - è stato scelto prima che comparisse il virus e tuttavia costituisce uno stimolo, quanto mai appropriato, per riflettere su quanto avvenuto e per avviare l’opera di ricostruzione. Questa non può attendere e ha bisogno, al tempo stesso, di profonda idealità, di ampia visione, di grande concretezza.
This forty-first edition of the Meeting takes place as a terrible pandemic sows suffering and death at every latitude, erupting into our history and forcing us to slow down, unfortunately with heavy economic and social consequences. We are now called to restart with greater quality, with stronger community awareness, with new development that respects nature and overcomes social discrimination. The Meeting’s organizers expressed awareness of this in confirming the program of initiatives. These, once again, will increase cultural heritage and the opportunities for discussion in the country, representing an important moment of fraternity and growth for the many communities of reference. (…) This year’s theme - “Devoid of wonder we remain deaf to the sublime” - was chosen before the virus appeared, yet it constitutes a very appropriate stimulus with which to reflect on what has happened and to start the reconstruction work. This cannot wait and requires, at the same time, profound ideality, broad vision and great concreteness.

Decine di volontari all’opera per assemblare manufatti di legno, allestire le mostre, supportare la realizzazione delle scenografie nelle sale. Questo è stato il PreMeeting 2020, pur con i limiti di persone e strutture imposti dal distanziamento sociale, «limiti che non ci hanno tolto niente ma anzi dato una carica di esperienza di più».
Dozens of volunteers at work to assemble wooden structures, set up exhibitions, and support the creation of the sets in the rooms. This was the PreMeeting 2020, taking place even with the limitations on numbers and structures imposed by social distancing, “limits that have not taken anything away from us but rather have given us a more charged experience”.

Chi ha partecipato al PreMeeting si è sentito parte del Meeting, in un dialogo continuo con i responsabili della manifestazione. Those who participated in the PreMeeting truly felt part of the Meeting, in continuous dialogue with the managers of the event.
Varie opere strutturali e di falegnameria sono state realizzate a proprie spese dai volontari come contributo al sostegno del Meeting. Various structural and carpentry tasks were carried out by volunteers at their own expense, as a contribution to supporting the Meeting.
PreMeeting significa creatività e innovazione, realizzando soluzioni inedite perché ogni dettaglio deve “parlare del Meeting”. PreMeeting means creativity and innovation, creating new solutions, because every detail must “speak of the Meeting”.

Oltre 100 giovani musicisti provenienti da Austria, Germania, Polonia, Lettonia, Russia e Italia, hanno presentato al Meeting il risultato del percorso di studio e amicizia affrontato durante l’estate con International Musical Friendship. During the Meeting, more than 100 young musicians from Austria, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Russia and Italy presented the result of their educational and friendship experiences made during the summer, thanks to the International Musical Friendship initiative.

At the end of the restoration of the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem, a trip by modern pilgrims, in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine to the Holy See, rediscovers a symbolic place of humanity returned to the faithful from all over the world.

What does “Devoid Of Wonder, We Remain Deaf To The Sublime” mean? Living the Reality is an immersive video-exhibition made of images, sounds and words that develops the title of the Meeting, focusing on men’s existential questions, starting from the Tenth Chapter of “The Religious Sense” by Fr. Luigi Giussani and from “Reawakening Our Humanity” by Fr. Julian Carron.

Nel 2014, a 60 anni dall’impresa di Compagnoni e Lacedelli, una spedizione composta da italiani e pakistani raggiunge la vetta del K2. Nella mostra “Siamo in cima!” i protagonisti di questa grande impresa raccontano la scalata ma soprattutto la storia di un’amicizia, il legame con le proprie tradizioni, l’amore per la natura e le nuove possibilità di sviluppo. In 2014, 60 years after Compagnoni and Lacedelli’s undertaking, a joint Italian-Pakistani expedition reached the summit of K2. From that feat, the bond with one’s own traditions, love for nature and new opportunities for development are reborn.

Il Meeting ha ospitato il muro colorato e interattivo di #2030isnow, campagna della Commissione Europea in collaborazione con il MAE per sensibilizzare i cittadini sugli obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile dell’Agenda 2030. The Meeting hosted the colorful and interactive #2030isnow wall, a campaign by the European Commission in collaboration with the MAE to raise awareness of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Quest’anno il Meeting ha avuto una voce in più, Meeting Plus Radio, la web radio del Meeting, realizzata in collaborazione con l’emittente universitaria Plus Radio di Camplus e con l’apporto di alcuni professionisti, che per quattro ore al giorno ha trasmesso interviste, approfondimenti, rubriche e musica. This year the Meeting had an extra voice, Meeting Plus Radio, the Meeting’s web radio, created in collaboration with the university broadcaster Plus Radio of Camplus and with the contribution of various other professionals, who broadcast interviews, insights, columns and music for four hours a day.

74 Uno dei principali punti di forza del Meeting sta nella vitalità del popolo che lo realizza. Una vitalità frenata solo nei numeri dalle prescrizioni anti-Covid, non nell’entusiasmo di realizzare e partecipare a un evento in cui il rapporto tra le persone è fondamentale. Moltissimi anche quest’anno i volontari: 350 quelli in presenza al Palacongressi e 1.100 gli Ambassador che hanno operato dall’esterno, impegnati ad affiancare sia i dipartimenti del Meeting, sia le iniziative realizzate in varie città italiane e straniere, sia i canali social della manifestazione. One of the main strengths of the Meeting lies in the vitality of the people who make it happen. A vitality curbed only in number by anti-Covid precautions, not in the enthusiasm to create and participate in an event in which the relationship between people is fundamental. This year, there were once again many volunteers: 350 in attendance at the Palacongressi and 1.100 Ambassadors working remotely, committed to supporting the Meeting departments, the initiatives carried out in various Italian and foreign cities, and the social channels of the event.

Circa mille persone in due turni giornalieri hanno assistito in presenza agli eventi, nel rispetto del distanziamento sociale. About a thousand people in two daily shifts attended the events in person, respecting social distancing.
Tra i nostri volontari rilevante la presenza dei tecnici: l’edizione 2020 è stata quella a maggior tasso di tecnologie nella storia del Meeting.
Chiunque entrava al Palacongressi, pubblico, relatori, volontari, fornitori, è stato sottoposto al controllo della temperatura corporea.
Among our volunteers, the presence of technicians was notable: the 2020 edition had the highest rate of technology use in the history of the Meeting.
Anyone entering the Palacongressi, be they members of the public, speakers, volunteers or suppliers, were subjected to body temperature checks.

In questo anno cosÏ speciale abbiamo accolto la sfida di realizzare un Meeting sicuramente diverso, ma di cui eravamo certi ci fosse davvero bisogno. Tante sono le persone che hanno deciso - esattamente come noi - che quest’anno era necessario andare avanti e hanno scelto di sostenerci accompagnando la costruzione del Meeting 2020 in questo anno cosÏ difficile, dove nulla era scontato. In this very peculiar year we accepted the challenge of creating a Meeting that was certainly different, but which we were sure was truly needed. Many people decided just like us - that this year it was necessary to move forward, and chose to donate to this cause by helping the construction of the 2020 Meeting in this very difficult year, where nothing was taken for granted.

In oltre 120 città e in 25 nazioni, migliaia di persone hanno organizzato eventi, serate, momenti conviviali dove seguire insieme i convegni, gli spettacoli e visitare virtualmente le mostre del Meeting 2020. Lungo i 5 continenti il Meeting si è trasformato in un evento universale dove ciascun volontario Ambassador ha portato un po’ di Rimini nel mondo e un po’ di mondo a Rimini. In over 120 cities and in 25 countries, thousands of people organized events, parties and convivial moments where they could follow the conferences and shows together, and virtually visit the exhibitions of the 2020 Meeting. Spanning 5 continents, the Meeting turned into a universal event, in which each Ambassador volunteer brought a little bit of Rimini to the world and a little bit of the world to Rimini.
