We’re very proud of our extensive safety program, and our success in this area is a testament to our people who consistently keep safety at the top of the list. We have lots of people involved and invested in the safety program, and it’s something we speak about all the time to understand how we’re doing and where we can improve. The work we do is very labor intensive and manual in many cases, so ensuring the safety of our team goes hand-in-hand with that. For us as a facility, the Golden Cone Award is well known and is a source of pride for us.
Recognizing excellence: Operations Branch of the Year and S.A.F.E. Awards recipients
Shane Kiel, VP of Manufacturing Operations at Medline’s Neptune, NJ, facility (Excelsior), shares more about the location’s people, products and award-winning safety practices.
What products are manufactured at the Neptune facility?
Excelsior manufactures prefilled saline flush syringes, as well as a few other small-volume syringes. Manufacturing is divided between two locations—90% of the product is made in the Neptune, NJ, facility, and 10% is produced at the Hartland, WI, facility.
How has Excelsior manufacturing evolved over the years?
Excelsior was in business for 26 years prior to being purchased by Medline in 2015. Having been with the company both before and after the acquisition, I can attest to our continued commitment to producing the highest quality product. Customer demand for our products is increasing, and to support this growth we’re expanding with an additional building nearby, which is expected to be complete in Q2 2024.

We have a strong connection with our community, which helps us attract employees from the area who want to stay with us long term. We’re located in a neighborhood two miles from the beach, and about 70% of our employees walk or ride their bikes to work. We enjoy relatively low turnover, and many employees come to us through referrals from people who work here.
