OPERA-TUNITY Advance notice, opera lovers! Local hotelier Andrew Brownsword may have been busy tackling the aftermath of the devastating fire that gutted his Royal Clarence Hotel, but he’s still found time to organise an open air opera gala in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, for next June. Macmillan Gidleigh Opera (MGO) will be held in the grounds of the five-star Gidleigh Park Hotel, also owned by Brownsword, on 17 June 2017. Featuring young stars from the National Opera Studio, whose alumni includes Barry Banks and Susan Bullock to name but a few, the evening will be introduced by TV/radio presenter and Devon resident Jonathan Dimbleby, and a charity auction of luxury prizes will take place in the interval. With wine and canapés upon arrival, indulgent picnics available to order, and the opportunity to hire private dining tents, limited tickets are bound to sell fast. MGO are currently seeking sponsors and donations in support of the soloists, fireworks, and staging. For more: 01647 433771; mgo-event.co.uk
