CHANGING MEDICINE, INSPIRING A BRIGHTER FUTURE 2022 SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE
To advance and improve medicine, it takes a determined team working together — people with diverse abilities and experiences driving new concepts and supporting one another. At the University of Michigan Medical School, we strive to build the strongest teams possible by seeking outstand ing students who have unique backgrounds, exciting ideas, and a passion for serving others.
Scholarship donors like you are essential members of our team too. Your generosity enables the brightest and best learners — regardless of their financial situations or circumstances — to attend the U-M Medical School. Some of these learners come from underrepresented populations, others are first-generation college students, and many earned degrees in non-sci entific fields during their undergraduate studies.
Once here, they bring with them the undeniable talent and dedication that will change medicine. They pursue promising research, volunteer in the community, provide care to the underserved, and help to enhance medical education.
Your contributions give students the opportunity to pursue their dreams and focus on becoming the best caregivers they can be. Thank you for your partnership and encouragement as you make it possible for gifted learners to take the next step in their medical journeys. Your gifts are helping to change their lives and build a brighter future in health care.
Sincerely, Deborah R. Berman (M.D. 1999, Residency 2003, Fellowship 2010) Interim Assistant Dean for Admissions

A LEADING APPROACH TO MEDICAL EDUCATION
At the U-M Medical School, our students embrace incredible opportunities to make an impact while they train, preparing themselves to graduate and become physician leaders who drive positive change in health care.
Scientific & Clinical Foundation
Focuses on foundational scientific knowl edge and clinical experiences. Also devel ops learning and thinking skills to prepare students to be lifelong learners through the Doctoring course and other courses designed to foster clinical reasoning skills, systems thinking, cultural competency, leadership, and collaboration.
Longitudinal Learning Community
M-Home — the Medical School’s learning community — supports the development of clinical skills and professional identity in a small-group, mentored environment. The M-Home experience helps students to embrace community building, coaching, well-being, creating a culture of authentici ty, and peer mentorship and development.
Directed Professional Development Provides meaningful choices and learning experiences based on the professional direction of the student, guided by a personal advisor. This is when medical students might elect to pursue a dual degree, do international rotations, develop research, create and manage health programs, or pursue other projects that interest them.
Applied Leadership Education Prepares students for leading in the general clinical environment and for specialized contexts like health care policy. The innova tive leadership program integrates leader ship training across the entire medical school experience, helping students to grow skills and knowledge through large and small group sessions, working on teams, interacting with mentors and coaches, and capstone projects.
